Right here.

Its the first chapter from Vol. 1 of the Mutant Turtles manga published by Dangeki. This is the manga series which eventually lead into the Super Mutant Turtles series, which you may be familiar with (those weird Japanese TMNT OVAs that are all the rage on You Tube).

The manga has a tone similar to the Archie comic; all the weirdness and humor of the cartoon but with a bit of an edge to it. Oh, and implied rape. Can't have a Japanese comic without implied rape.

I'm currently working on Chapter 2, which features a very Japanese interpretation of the Crooked Ninja Turtle Gang from the original cartoon. Got the translations done, just need to photoedit it.

I actually sent the pages to Dan Berger (a bigwig at Mirage Studios) and he thought they were amusing. So hey, I guess he's not gonna sue me for doing these. Alright!

What did those guys say their name was? Was it the NINJA TURTLES? I thought I heard them say they were the NINJA TURTLES. Boy, those NINJA TURTLES didn't say their name very often!

It was the first issue! The kids needed to know what they were reading.

Because, you know, kids are stupid.

Irma has some massive DSLs. I dont remember that from the american cartoon.

Awww, Bebop, no....

Well, if you guys didn't like the first chapter, you sure aren't going to like the second:

"Beat the Phony Turtles"

They manage to squeeze in every anime cliche known to man, April has "shojo bubbles" perpetually fluttering around her head, and oh yeah, BURNING JUSTICE.

But it's amusing in how weird it is, I suppose. Like the Transformers Victory manga.
Col. Jupiter
"What's that horrible thing next to Bebop?"

"Hm? Oh, that's just Rocksteady, my other sidekick. Yup. Been here with me the whole time."

Crooked Ninja Turtle Gang

I can't not read that and not immediately hear Cullen's gravelly voice say it ^__^

I'll give the manga credit where it's due: their design of Shredder's mask/helmet is actually pretty neat.

Irmas lips go from bad to worse. look at her news broadcast on page 3. Hilfreakinglarious.

Just finished Chapter 3:

"The Strongest Weapon: The Devil's Monster"

They say "Cowabunga" FOUR times in this one chapter, and they scream the name of "The Devil's Monster" even more.

But it's all silly fun.

That read like a drinking game. I loved it.

I thought THE DEVIL'S MONSTER!!!! might have been some bizarre nickname for the Technodrome, so I was pretty surprised to find out it was instead a smaller technodrome with the head of a daruma-otoshi. Pretty interesting design choice, there.

Ah! "Daruma"! THANK YOU! The name was on the tip of my tongue for days but I couldn't remember it.

The next issue is probably going to drive me insane. In that one, they go visit Japan. So it's probably gonna be filled with more terrible puns like the one from the end of this issue, that'll make me shove my head through a wall trying to figure out how to realize into English.

Oh, and it also has lots of Irma fan service. Horrible, horrible Irma fan service. icon-wildride.gif

Mutant Turtles Gaiden Chapter 4; Discover Japan!

This one's a doozy. Could've done without the, er..Irma fanservice, but the jokes about Americans being unable to tell Asian people apart were just great.

And the buck-toothed, squinty-eyed charicatures of Japanese people...wow. But not without a precedent. I mean, just rewatch the first episode of the 80s cartoon. During the flashback sequence to Splinter's origin in Japan, ALL the Japanese people were drawn that way.

Gonna work on the Super Mutant Turtles manga next, though I can't for the life of me find Volume 1 of the series (got volumes 2 and 3, though). Guess I'm going to have to skip ahead until I can track it down...

Wow, weird self-racism there...

The best part. Though it seemed Kanno was taking shots more at Americans and their inability to distinguish one Asian person from another (I think the Turtles were looking at Japan through "American Vision", there).

And maybe a shot or two at the TMNT cartoon-itself, which was never very kind in its depiction of Japanese people (attachment related).

Yeah, I can see the Borat-esque humor in it.
