For all you BotCon fans, now is the time to "Dare to Be Stuipd"! Our next big guest? The one, the only "WEIRD AL" Yankovic! You read that right. "Weird Al" is coming to BotCon on Saturday, May 30th.
"WEIRD AL" YANKOVIC
“Weird Al" Yankovic, the undisputed king of pop culture parody, has sold more comedy recordings than any other artist in history. In a career spanning nearly three decades, he has amassed 28 Gold and Platinum albums, 7 Gold and Platinum-certified home videos and 3 Grammy Awards (with 11 nominations).
Transformers audiences also know “Weird Al" for the contribution of his single “Dare to be Stupid” to the soundtrack of the 1986 Transformers Animated Movie. The song is well known to fans as it plays during the scene in which Wreck Gar confronts the Autobots on the planet of Junk. With the debut of Transformers Animated, fans got an extra special treat when, “Weird Al” was cast as the voice of Wreck Gar for the new series.
"Weird Al" will be joining us on Saturday for an autograph session and a Transformers Animated panel with David Kaye. He will also be joining us for the Party at Paramount! Because of the limited time he can spend at the show, autographs will be from 9:00AM-11:00AM on Saturday. Only Primus package holders can get in the autograph line (first come, first served) and it will be cut off when the maximum number is reached. You will be limited to one item and no personal photographs will be allowed during the autograph session. However, "Weird Al" will be joining us at Paramount and photos will be allowed at the party.
Wow, that's actually a pretty big "get." It'd be awesome if he participates in the concert at the Paramount Party...

As I said on the club boards, this is the first news that's actually tempting me to spend that $50 for the party....

Sweet! I was somewhat excited about Grimlock being there, but this is pretty damn kick ass. We should all sing White and Nerdy in the line

Edit: Why no photos? Do they mean not even allowing other people to take pictures of you there? And can we get signatures at the party?

At a guess, "no photos" during the autograph session is just so that they can give as many people the chance to have autographs as possible. Photos slow things down.
Likewise, I expect that the autograph opportunities at the party will be limited, if they exist at all. Photos can be shot fairly quickly (my statement in the previous paragraph notwithstanding. It's still true...).
EDIT: For what it's worth, I don't know if "they mean not even allowing other people to take pictures of you there." My brother and I both got pictures of Peter Cullen signing our stuff a few years ago that wouldn't have taken any more time. While Cullen signs with one of us, the other snaps the photo. Of course, Cullen was nice enough to pose for each of us, too! But that's the part that takes time (an extra second or two per person, but it adds up to some people not being to get through that might like to), and what I expect they're looking to avoid.

That article doesn't say he's going to be performing at the Paramount party, just that he'll be attending. I sincerely hope he'll perform at least a song or two.

Man, I was thinking about this. Then I'd think, nah no way they can afford him. Then again, he's in LA recording a new album, so it makes sense.
Sucks I'm going to miss it.

Ditto. Isn't Stan supposed to play again? I'd much rather see Weird Al (who I saw in 2005 I think).

Wow. Holy crap.
I guess having him do music would have cost extra. That would have been pretty damned awesome though. I think Weird Al might have made me reconsider going to a concert, even though I'm not a concert person...
It does say "In addition, "Weird Al" will be attending the Party at Paramount!" Attending?

I must dig up my VHS copy of UHF for him to sign. Then put it next to the signed copy of his original vinyl album, and my Wreck-Gar Wyatt sketch signed by them both...

Well, we don't know that Weird Al
isn't playing, just that there's no definitive sign that he is.
That said, while his attendence was the thing that pushed me over the edge into going to the party, I'm actually a bit uneasy about the concert. I'm not a fan of concerts, like, at
all, unless it's a musician I
really like. Neither Bush nor DiCola qualify (no offense to those who like them). I'm still concerned that I'll be bored out of my mind (and possibly deaf all at the same time... Ugh!) during that portion.

As I think about it, if he were going to perform at the party, I'd really expect FP to have made a point to say so. So while that's a little disappointing, I'm not going to complain too much. His panel ought to be a riot, anyway.

May 13 2009, 10:33 AM
Well, if he were going to be preforming acoustic and without his band I could see them not making a big advertisement of it. Especially if it just wound up being a half dozen songs or something. That's more of an awesome surprise. Whereas an advertised performance that wound up just being a partial might have led to grumbling.
You lucky bastards!

Wait, does this mean that autographing by both Weird Al AND David Kaye is limited to only Primus package-ers?
Curse this ambiguous language!
