This con keeps getting bigger and better every year.

This year the con became a 2.5 day event. Although the Sunday encompassed the 80s Toy Expo that used to be held in the fall, the panels were all different from those of the day before, and there was always either a choice between Transformers-oriented panels or other-80s-oriented panels, or else the panels were such that either group would be interested in them (for example, Derrick Wyatt talked on Sunday about some of his other shows, not just Animated.)

I have never seen the art contest so big, the costume contest so big, the dealer room so big, the crowd so big, the pizza party so big...

...and yet, TFCon continues to be a convention motivated by love of a property. People can meet friends, make friends, take part, make a difference. Audience participation is strongly encouraged. This con continues to be a joy and pleasure to attend.

I didn't get much this year, but what I did get was nice: two PVCs (Ramjet and Thrust), won the litho as a door prize, some art that got signed by Derrick and Dan, some other 80s toys (including Star Wars, She Ra, and My Little Pony), and these:

For the non pony minded individuals in this thread: these two toys are of equivalent value.

I see you also got a new sig from it too icon-fire.gif

And I still have yet to meet NightViper. I'm really beginning to think he's naught but myth.

Stormy, Dev, it was good to see you, even though we did very little talking.

I really enjoy TFcon, and look forward to it every year. As Stormy said, it is a good opportunity to make and meet friends, and unlike Botcon, it's still small enough that you can FIND your friends. (Not to knock Botcon, but it's nice to be able to find people when you want to, rather than wander about for an hour or so. I even ran into RavageX-9, whom I didn't expect to see. Probably wouldn't have that chance meeting at Botcon!). I've made new friends at TFcon and through TFcon.

Even thought I didn't get a chance to stay through Sunday, I still managed to get a great deal on some M.A.S.K. figures and vehicles on Saturday. Apart from Powered Commander, I didn't really buy any TF merch, but that's ok. I did outright offer my wallet to FansProject though, upon seeing the pictures of the Rodimus armor, Springer, Broadside and Wreck-Gar. ("So, do I just pre-order this stuff, or do I hand you my wallet now?")

I also learned about some interesting views that Canadians hold of Americans, those being: Hydroplaning is a benchmark of American Driving (even though I wasn't hydroplaning), and if you film an American long enough, they will eventually shoot someone. Quite possibly the person that made that joke.icon-fire.gif

All in all, a fun time, and I already can't wait for next year!

Thanks for introducing yourself. icon-hotrod.gif

I can't properly perceive faces, meaning I can't really recognize people (until I know them well enough to recognize their voice, or if they have a really obvious feature like a tattoo, missing eye, big scar, unique body jewelry, unusual hairstyle, etc.) But at TFCon, either people recognize ME in my army jacket and introduce themselves (or gently remind me who they are), or there are some people who have a regular hallmark (either an item of clothing, a plushie, a hairstyle, etc that's there every year) that helps me pick them out. I've adopted the Decepticon army jacket as mine because when you can't recognize people, you have to hope they recognize you and say hi.

Nightwynd. From the Pizza Party. I'm good with names, just not faces. icon-hotrod.gif

Yes, Nightviper is real. I've been trying to convince Devcon of that. I was never able to find you again. (the guy with me when we talked was Phalanx, my best friend.)

Not a problem. I had forgotten that about you. I'll try to make a mental note to re-introduce myself more often. But, that not withstanding, we met two years ago (you took the picture of me with Mike Bell), and I don't think we've spoken since, so I wouldn't really necessarily expect you to remember me anyway. Besides, the only reason I recognized you was because a) you were sitting by Bob Sag..er...Devcon (icon-fire.gif) and b) you're the only person I can think of who'd wear cammo fishnets.

However, I should warn you that you will forever be known to me as a Constructibaticon...icon-fire.gif

WAIT! NeverMockThePersonWithOrdinance, NeverMockThePersonWithOrdinance, NeverMockThePersonWithOrdinance! I keep forgetting that! icon-wildride.gif

Viper, it's not that I don't believe Stormrave, but I'm gonna need some more proof than that. As far as I'm concerned, you're just this mythical entity that seems to know EXACTLY where to find new stuff in the Buffalo general area.

Are...are you my spirit guide? icon-bee.gif
Caboose!
This thread makes me want to go next year, and regret not asking earlier about it this year. Even moreso because Derrick Wyatt was there.

It sounds like a lotta fun! I was planning on saving for Botcon next year, but I think I'll go with this instead. It's odd, too, I live in Michigania and I've never been to Canada, it would be a neat experience indeed!
Stormrave
As a Constructibaticon, I can build AND shoot ordinance! MWA HA HA

You'd be surprised how many of the other girls there wanted to steal those tights....

***

Caboose! : You should try to drive up next year. TFCon is really a great show. It gets bigger and offers more every year, and when the travel is less than half of the cost of a trip to Botcon for you, it's definitely value for the travel dollar.

Do we have non pony minded people at the Allspark??

Stormrave,

It was cool to get to meet you. You and Phalanx were my first experience with the con upon arrival into Canada (I was the guy you met on the shuttle to the hotel and the guy you get the 4 Loonies (hee hee) to at the Pizza Party. After meeting you I knew the overall experience of my first Canadian convention was going to be a good one.

... I don't know how I missed both Bob and Fishnets ...but I didn't see hide nor hair (counter-respectively) of either Stormy or Devcon while I was there... must have been walking in opposite directions around the dealer room or something...

well 2010 will be different I'm going to take every option counter intuitively, if I can go left I'll go right... if most people are walking toward me on the right hand side of the isle I'll push through on the left...

bound to run into somebody that way.

Devcon doesn't look THAT much like Bob Sagat.

Then again, I guess Bob Sagat doesn't look that much like Bob Sagat these days.

TFCon pretty much rocked yet again.

I knew I was going to be late on Friday but I didn't think I was going to be that late! I could barely stay for half an hour once I finally arrived.

It was awesome seeing Human Error with everyone, especially when a certain "hero" suddenly pulls out an accordion.

Was anyone here at Faction Feud on Saturday to see my team of Ninjamasters dominate? We won tickets to see the early screening of Revenge of the Fallen. We were awesome, but it was a grueling, tiring ordeal to win it. Still, it was a lot of fun.

The How to Draw panel on Sunday seemed to go well, though as an experienced teacher I'm always my own worst critic. People were so well behaved (except maybe Guber, but that's to be expected I suppose), which was a total change to what I've been used to recently. People were telling me afterward that they really enjoyed it and I'm glad. Sorry I had to cut out before we were finished but we ran late and I had expected to be at another panel. If the drawing panel happens again next year I'll do my best to make sure it's longer and I think the format will change a lot too.

I wish I could say more right now but things have been a whirlwind for a while. Between finishing the comic after only having 2 weeks to work on it, and starting a new job yesterday, I've been so busy and so tired and can barely think straight with all the other stuff I had to do. Despite that, this is a TFCon that I'll remember for a long time.

Sayonara.

It was cool to meet you too n10zguy icon-hotrod.gif I'm glad you had fun and I hope you found some great stuff to spend those loonies on. And I do remember you...your accent's pretty unique in the TFCon crowd, so as soon as you spoke, I remembered who you were.

Destron D-69, you need a visual schtick to help me recognize you. Want to borrow these cammo print fish net stockings next year?

Ah, the endless humour of loonies. And Quicky's wife being totally weirded out by toonies, wondering why she was getting two coins instead of "Four dollars"....

Yeah, I don't think he looks THAT much like Bob Sagat either, but hey, a running gag is a running gag!

I was there, but I had to leave after the first round of the final game. Glad to hear you guys won! Granted Guber already told me, but it's good to hear it from someone who isn't a candidate for heavy medication icon-fire.gif

Oh Guber... I think he's going to be a fixture of my TFcon experience from now on. It just won't feel like a TFcon if on the off chance he's not there. The way he freaked when he heard Dan speak... wow. Just to put the story out there, I was hanging around Guber before the Gilvezan panel, and he was running around the lobby asking staff if they knew where Dan was/what he looked like. I saw him (Dan) sitting at a table with Meesum, looking over the comic (most likely in prep for the VA contest), and I pointed him out to Gub ("I think that's him over there..."). Guber ran up and kneeled next to Meesum. Everyone pretty much ignored him. The moment Dan said word one, not even in his Bumblebee voice, Guber jumped up and screamed (the immediately apologized with something to the effect of, "I'm sorry, but, the voice, you're the voice!"). Dan took it all in stride though ("Are you going to be ok? Are we going to have to get you medical attention?").

But, this did lead to Guber hugging Dan (not swear filtered) during the Q&A portion of Dan's panel on Saturday.

After that, I was hanging out by Alex Milne's table talking to his "booth-babe" (her title for it), when I saw the guys with the camera interviewing Guber. I couldn't help but laugh that it seemed every time I looked away and looked back, there seemed to be more and more light blue shirts (staff members) hovering around and watching him.

Just do me one favor, Ninjatron. Next time you tell Guber you don't want to go somewhere for dinner, please pin a note to his shirt or something. It might save me a car trip icon-fire.gif

... I'll have to bring my pimp hat... embarrassing as it will be to have it on the entire trip down airport road.... icon-fire.gif

i'm going to have to pass on the fishnets ....

Some pictures...

Hasbro brought the ROTF Bee helmet and blaster. That kid was too cute in them.

Art contest: Animated Wasp. WOW.

Another WOW from the Art Contest. Jesus was that thing nice.

This one just made me chuckle icon-fire.gif

Not from the art contest but at the Reprolables booth. Found it funny.

Not the only costume (there was also a Vector Prime and a Unicron, but all my pictures I took of them came out blurry.

Me at the script reading auditions: I tried for Powerglide. They called 3 of us back, but I didn't get it... But according to Meesum, it was almost a cointoss between me and the guy who won. Guess I can add Powerglide to the lise of TF voices I can do spot on (the other being Unicron Trilogy Starscream). (And I just noticed Vangelus in the background filming, heh)

Dan at the Autograph line. Got one of my usual soundbites from him too: Clicky to listen

Had some more pics (a couple with Stormy) but those came out blurry icon-screamer.gif

Still, had a blast, and I definitely will plan on going back next year. If I could beat THE CURSE one weekend, I'm sure I can do it again.

EDIT: AAAH! Almost forgot. G1 IRONHIDE!!!

Oh, so sorry about that! Yeah, I thought I was pretty clear that I wasn't going to join that group. I eventually wound up being invited to eat pizza with the other volunteers and staff instead. Then as Faction Feud was about to start, it seemed like the rest of the team (which I had renamed "Ninjamasters" in their absence, ha ha) wasn't going to make it on time. So I was about ready to say "Forget those losers!" and get a brand new set of Ninjamasters instead. They made it just in time though, and we really covered eachother's knowledge-bases well. However, their onstage antics did make me realize how Megatron and just about every other 80's cartoon villain feels!

For the lightning round at the end we had to collectively name 20 toys with the name 'Prowl". One wrong answer and that member of the team was eliminated. Eventually it came down to just me and I manged to pull it off in the end. I probably could have kept going and spent all night dreaming about all the different Prowls that could have also been named. What was really cool was that Derrik Wyatt was there and watched until the end, then showed us some cool TF Animated shorts that haven't been seen before.

And yes, seeing Guber at the show is just as much of an event as any of the panels and guests that are actually scheduled!

I'll have pics and stuff later.

Nah, I'm just joshin' ya. It's really more an indictment of Guber. Since he's so scattered that he can't remember stuff anyway, it's probably best to treat him like the small child he acts like and just pin a note to him.
