Right, it will still be morning in America.

Anyway Silent Hill could work on Wii with puzzles based on the motion sensing and IR, the radio noise would come through the remote speaker and they'll likely do other things to screw with you with that, from a over the shoulder (RE4) perspective they could make it even more unsettling. It looks like shadows like in Doom 3, Left 4 Dead and Luigis Mansion will be incorperated in the in game gameplay here too.

Yay! Silent Hill for Wii! Even better a redo of the orginal! If this is really real, this make my day.

Good to see you're able to find something to laugh and snark at on pretty much every base. Now go into the other room so you're not disturbing the rest of the class.

On topic:

A large part of me is pawing at the screen over this, as I loved the original, but was not fond of the clunky controls, or the fact that I could not find another copy after having mine ganked. The rest of me is being cautious, as we're still leery after that whole Dead Rising fiasco. But, it's not like there's a ton of enemies on-screen, or anything that involves rushing towards them at high speeds, and hey, the fog. Those screens do look pretty too.

Mm, cautious optimism.
videomaster21XX
I really hope this is real, sells well, and dus indirectly helps "Winter" get made.

I hope the only April Fools part about this is the part where this is only for the Wii. This game needs to be on the 360 and PS3.
BlitzwingHaz
Surely this thing can't be real?
If it is, I don't like the concept of them remaking the first one but it sounds interesting. I loved Eternal Darkness for the Gamecube (people should pick that up for Wii) because it got inside your head by making you question what you were seeing and hearing.
Do you controller or just point at the screen to select things?

No, Bad Ruffian. 360 And PS3 got SH5. Let Wii have its own title.

OH SICK BURN BURN BRO YA GOT ME. Bet your classmates think you're bad-ass now for telling me off.

See its April Fools so its pretty hard to believe, even the site says don't believe anything you read today and of course, an M-rated game on a machine where those kinds of games don't sell that well AND its one of Konami's biggest franchises, so yes, I do think its incredibly odd they would put this on the Wii.

AND there's never been a Silent Hill on an Nintendo machine so that gives me more credibility to my argument that this is just a hoax.

But I keep forgetting that you can't say anything bad about Nintendo on the spark without the Nintendo self defense force attacking your OPINION.

And here, have some more news children.

Hopefully it will bomb on the Wii and we'll get it on the 360 or PS3(hopefully both.)

Count me in if this is real. The SH games are pretty much the only things that can consistently scare the hell outta me(so much so that I've never finished SH2 or 3. It'd get so bad I couldn't even open doors to continue) and I love them for it. I'd like to replay the first one, but the controls hate me. I'm never able to make it past that instant-kill lizard in the basement.

Although I hate the term "re-imagining" with a passion I think this sounds like it could be fun.

I have a hard time calling myself a "fan" of the Silent Hill series because at this point there are more titles out that I haven't really enjoyed than ones that I have.
But the ones I did enjoy...I enjoyed a LOT.

So I'm hoping this will be great, but fully prepared for it to come up short.

I'm confused by the statement that in this version of the game the story will play out differently depending on your decisions in the game.

The first Silent Hill did that too, it's nothing new.

The way it sounds that this would be more "chose your own adventure" type, where each time you play diffrent decidsions get completely diffrent results in game; while in the orginal, mostly it only effected the ending.
Arsenal
Well I'll be damned its real.

Scans of the Nintendo Power in question.

So its esentially a point and click SH game.
Tm_Silverclaw
So where are you getting that it's a point and click game?

So where are you getting that it's a point and click game?

-Harry is moved using the control stick, the Wii remote is used to aim the flashlight

-When you look at something Harry will vocally respond

-No load times

-The Wii remote acts as your cell phone, and the static noise comes out of the Wii remote speaker

-Combat has been removed from the game, you can only flee

-When the monsters chase you the Z button will allow you to break through doors, climb fences, through windows etc.

From the other link.

Ok not necessarily a point and click in the traditional sense but something along those lines.
Tm_Silverclaw
Sounds like Silent hill... Just without Combat.
Self-Destruct
Well, (for me at least) the games weren't about combat. More the need to press on, find why Harry/James/Heather had been brought to the town, and get weirded out and scared half to death in the process. I think it would be nice to have the option of fighting, but it's not an essential component, in my opinion.

Mind, I haven't touched either of the ones after 3. I hear The Room had some enemies (ghosts, I think?) that you couldn't kill, and had no choice but to run away from. Not sure what the verdict was on that whole deal (The Room got overall thumbs-down whenever I asked anyone who played it, so I can assume it wasn't a nice touch).

I dunno', I'll have to try it out first-hand to know whether or not I'll actually like it, I suppose.

There's a difference between expressing your opinion in a civil, mature manner, and trolling.

Boss Borot
Sounds fine to me. I always sucked at the combat anyway. Like I said, I never finished replaying SH1 because of that damn lizard. I usually cheat the hell outta games like that anyway so I can just play through the story, but instant kill moments get me every time. Mostly why I've not completed any Resident Evil games past RE2.
Tm_Silverclaw
Not to mention some of the SH games.. Easy mode had you fighting no monsters at all, except maybe boss battles.
Tornadron

http://www.true-gaming.net/boards/showpost...mp;postcount=37
Thinking back to Silent Hill 2 some of the most intense parts was with the indestructable Pyramid Head. Same with facing Nemesis in Resident Evil 3 I could turn and tackle him sometimes especially when I unlocked the infinity launcher but the earliest parts with him in pursuit were pure panic. Salazars right hand man in RE4 s chapter 4-2 was also scary at least until I upgraded my weapons and got infinity guns.
BlitzwingHaz
I'm really hyped for this game now, it sounds excellent. I don't have a wii though.
I love that they're pretty much going the oppposite way from Resident Evil and focussing on immersion and helplessness rather than action.
Database
While I do have a few reservations about no fighting, I understand what they are wanting to achive and agree with it. The Silent Hill franchise has never been about combat. You might see a monster now and then, but its always been more heavily focuses on the story, the atmosphere, and the puzzle solving. Its the big diffrence between it and Resident Evil. Resident Evil at its core is about the action, the fightign off the mutated/zombie hordes, and the recent ones even emphasize this much more. Yes in them there is atmosphere, some story, and puzzles; its still about defeating enemies.

I've always found Silent Hill to be more of a true horror game, in that atmosphere truly gets to you and creeps you the hug out. Resident Evil, in my opinion, is mostly about the enemies coming out of no where, in a slighty creepy enviroment (That on its own isn't all that scary). Thats not saying RE isn't horror, its just more of action-horror. But I know opinions vary.

Well one thing to keep in mind is that The Room isn't a true Silent Hill. It started devolpment as a diffrent game; but somewhere along the line, Konami decided to revamp it into a 4th SH title; probably to keep up with RE.

The ghosts can be killed, but only later in the game when you'd gotten special holy swords, that allow you to pin their souls to the ground in boss fights. Its not so much that the game play or ideas are really bad; just the room's exacution really fails as a Silent Hill game, becuase ti feels more actiony at times, and the the force behind everything is just... lame. There are some nice thigns, as it does explore the town's past, you get to learn a bit more about James and which is probably SH2's cannonical ending, and the main plot of being mysteriously locked into the room by supernatural forces is good, untill you learn the thrusth about the villian. If you can pick it up cheaply, go a head and get it. But don't pay over $15.
Diddy_Mao
Perhaps it comes from a wasted youth playing the Call of Cthulhu tabletop RPG but I absolutely love the idea of completely removing combat from a survival horror title.

Maybe a few awkward punches or body tackles in order to escape a shambling horror but other than that your only options are "Run" and "May God have mercy on your soul."

I'm still cautious about getting too excited about the game, but if this aspect of the gameplay is kept in I'll at least be cautiously optimistic.
Jeremy
Yeah, I can see a game working with just the high anxiety aspects of the Resident Evil games, but with (probably) less frequent monsters and no building up an uber arsenal after awhile. I've never gotten to play a Silent Hill game, so as long as this gets good reviews going in I'll almost definitely be picking it up.
Bigbot
I'm in for this and I'm glad they're doing it on the wii
Tornadron
Climax Studios are doing it mind they have been the ones behind Origins and Homecoming, their not bad games but the series was becoming a bit weak, I think it's great they are taking the series in a new direction like RE4 sort of did and iconic that it's the polar opposite.
BlitzwingHaz
It sounds as if those guys should be trying something different since their attempts to continue the series as it is are a bit stale (so people say, I haven't played one since SH3).
They should get the original team to do another Silent Hill though if possible.
Also, I was very relieved to hear that Akira Yamaoka is still doing the music, the man is a genius.
Database
I've not played them yet, but I really doubt 0rigins or Homecoming could be any worse the The Room.

Derp..I forgot to mention, but there was a really nice eyes-on preview written up at IGN a few weeks ago. It sounds really neat, and apparently characters' appearances DO change depending on your actions. I'm really getting interested.

However, I'm not sure if it's a game I could play. I've already mentioned my dislike of instant-kill moments, and it seems like that's gonna be the entire point of the nightmare scenes. Add in the fact that the monsters are smart, can break down doors, climb fences, work in groups, and all that nastiness... I think I'd just get too scared and frustrated to play for too long.

I'll still give it a try! icon-blitz.gif

Here's my take:

SH1- Awesome.

SH2- Pure Awesome!

SH3- Not as awesome as SH2 but still awesome.

SH 4: The Room- Meh. Like was said already, it didn't start life as a Silent Hill game and it shows. It never captures the SH vibe. It's not a bad game exactly, just very different and after playing through it once (and getting the good ending) I had had enough.

SH Origins- Meh. I own the PS2 version, and I don't know if there's any difference between this and the PSP version. Anyway, it's a good game, but it pretty much fails to expand on the ORIGINS of the story. It doesn't tell us anything we didn't already know and turns Lisa the nurse from SH1 into a dimwit that's having an affair with Dr. Kaufman and now has the worst fake southern accent ever, sugah. Of course, nothing happens with Dahlia, Kaufman or Lisa, since they all need to be alive in SH1 and nothing about them is expanded on in any significant way.

SH: Homecoming- Haven't played it since I don't own a PS3 or 360, but from what I've seen it looks like the developers were mimicking the look of the movie to the point of recreating scenes from the movie... which were themselves scenes recreated from the first couple games. Oh, you silly guys. Gameplay looked good, at least, but I can't say having never played it.

And just a note on Pyramid Head- I love the big crazy monster, but it bugs me that the new development team keeps using him. In Origins it was Pyramid Head without the Pyramid helmet. Instead he had some kind of short metal mask covering half of his face. Then in Homecoming they use him again and he's even more prominent. I wouldn't be surprised if he shows up in this re-imagining of SH1 just because they feel he's the Jason of Silent Hill. I guess the problem is that SH has never really had another monster as iconic as Pyramid Head. So I understand why they keep using him, I just wish they wouldn't.
Tornadron
The only reason Pyramid Head should show up in Silent Hill Shattered Memories is if Harry feels some form of guilt for the loss of his wife or daughter and if this is actually his nightmare world. In the original game it was Harry caught in Alessa's nightmare, in Silent Hill 2 the nightmare world was James own and it was revealed different people see different things unless there's a connection that bridges them like how James glimpsed Angelas.
BlitzwingHaz
Yeh Pyramid Head was epic when he first appeared, but he shouldn't be overused the way he has been. I like the idea that Silenty Hill contains many people's personal demons though, but he should only be a focus when James is the central character since he seemed to be his peronal demon (imo).
The series seems to have lost its way a bit, I'd love for them to release another one on X-Box/PS3 with new monsters and proper psychological stuff in there. The Wii version they are making looks great though, a fresh take was definately needed.
Mako Crab
Yeah, there were a lot of great theories surrounding Pyramid Head back when he was relegated to just SH2. Some people thought that under the helmet it was James himself (his dark side manifested) and pointed out that through the game Pyramid Head and James seem to display some of the same traits right down to James wielding PH's great sword. Then there was the whole thing how Maria was supposed to represent James' most carnal desires and that his view of women was pretty shallow. Compare that to how PH is always raping the female monsters in the game and you know... it makes for an interesting theory on how PH is really James' dark reflection.

But then PH has to start showing up everywhere and it sort of just kills that whole notion. Bums me out.
Tornadron
Soundtracks from the game:
http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=01...+memories+music

Probably not worth it since they are totally ineffective without gameplay footage.
I got goosebumps from Silent Hill 2's music particularly the first part from when James arrives at the town right to the point he enters the apartment and the track in normal Brookhaven.
Bigbot
I like the music, makes me instantly think of Silent Hill in a creppy 'I really wish I was anywhere but here' kind of way
Mako Crab
Yeah, every now and then I'll pop in the soundtrack to SH3 that came bundled with the game. Wish they would've put out a soundtrack for the movie, since it was like the "best of" from the SH games.

It looks awesome especially part three where the town changes right in front of you in the actual gameplay itself which never really happened before, even in Homecoming the change was done in a cutscene, the original sort of had it at the Hospital but that was different, the voice actings great and Iphone is a awesome tool.

While a frozen wasteland isn't quite as creepy as the hellish nightmare that we're used to; I think its rather interesting. Since it gives a good reason doors aren't accessible (frozen solid or such), without having to check everyone to see if its locked or not
