I found the first wave of Marvel Universe and Wolverine movie line figures yesterday at Wal-Mart ($8.44). I know they have been out in Canada for awhile, so, has anyone else bought some yet? I now have:
MU
Iron Man
Stealth Iron Man
Daredevil
Black Panther
X-Force Wolverine
Silver Surfer
Spiderman
Wolverine Movie
Brown Suit Wolverine
Tiger Stripes Wolverine
Gambit
Deadpool
Sabertooth
Maverick
I did not get Punisher due to a melon-head. I have heard that an upcoming Punisher has a smaller head. I did not find the "flame on" Human Torch, and the half/half version does nothing for me. I may go back and buy the civilian Wolverine, Weapon-X and Spy Wolverine, but that will have to be on the next paycheck.
Comparing them to the six Super Hero Showdown figures I have, I have to say I am impressed. I only have 2 figures that have joint problems out of 13. All of my SHS figures have issues. Not only that, the sculpts are better and most of the joints have meaningful articulation, as opposed to the useless waist and ab articulation of the SHS figures. I would like to see the Hasbro knees used if they are going to omit the ball joint at the hips, and some of the figures could have benefited from a bicep swivel, but other than that, I could not be happier with these purchases. I can't wait until the next wave hits.

I saw them at Sears Essentials the other day and wasn't impressed. Nine dollars is an outrageous price for a figure with worse sculpting, paint, and accessories than a GI Joe or Star Wars figure.
Plus, I'm not about to rebuy the entire damn marvel universe after I've spent so much on Marvel Legends.

Feb 20 2009, 06:43 PM
Eh, I understand about the re-buying the whole Universe, though I may not agree with you on the sculpting or paint. To each his own.
I plan on continuing with the 6" as well, especially if what Jesse said at Fwoosh does come to fruition. I just thought they were neat, would look nice on a shelf near my GIJoe-verse figures and would replace the crap that was SHS.

I picked up Black Panther today.
Pretty solid toy overall. I find the lack of range of motion in some of the joints frustrating, because it's hard to attain any really fun poses. What really makes him shine is the SHIELD file he comes with, with "top secret" info on T'Chula and how he fits into Stark's plans. Very cool little bonus. Too bad SHIELD and Stark are now things of the past, making the whole experience rather hollow.

Found the Wolvie Movie toys at TRU and the Marvel ones at Walmart and picked up a handful. I got them more for hopeful kit-bash fodder, but they all look pretty cool though I haven't played with them yet.
I bought SWAT, civie and Weapon X Wolverine, Cap, Gray Hulk, Green Goblin, Spidey, Silver Surfer (good generic body) and that's it.

Well said. I've got so many MLs right now that the prospect of buying everyone again is more than daunting, to say the least.
The only thorn in my side I can foresee is the fact that the possibility of an Avengers Quinjet is MUCH better at this scale than at 6", and I'd hate to have to backtrack and try to pick up all the figures I passed on initially.
*sigh* I don't know. This freaking drives me up a wall. *grumbles*

No word yet, but I would bet on it. Plus, they are doing the
Gigantic Battles packs which could serve your purposes on the opposite end of the size spectrum.

I saw a "Wolverine and the X-Men" Cyclops at this same scale and packaging at a Wallmart the other day. Unlike the Marvel U and Origins figures, the Animated style Cyclops had hideous paint apps, so much so that he looked like he had an adamantium sheet growing out of his cheekbone.

I saw a comic series Wolverine in brown-and-tan yesterday and almost picked him up. He's the first I've seen at the new scale, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't curious about how they feel in regards to quality and such.
Passed on him, though. I have to stick to my guns.

I wanna buy these, and with the movie toys around the corner I won't be buying anymore Transformers so I'll definately have plenty of cash, but I just can't yet convince myself to start collecting something new. I've been actually looking forward to saving money for once, so I guess it'll be a "wait and see" for me and find out what happens when I actually come across these guys in the store.

get a ff set to stand next to Watcher and Galactus, X-men for the baf Sentinal or Giant sized Apocalypse...

You know, I may be slow, but I sort of figured these would all have the same general construction but they don't.
The Wolverine toys are like mini-MLs with ball-jointed hips (which stick very easily at that size btw) but like GI Joes with their upper torso elbows, shoulders and torso. The Marvel Universe figs have hips like Joes but the shoulder and upper-arm bicep swivel like MLs. I think I prefer the latter construction over all.

Don't bother looking at Scotia Glennville.
They had a cart full of them the other day sitting in the aisle when they were stocking. I went to grab a few (not many Marvel U figures, just Iron fist, Wolverine, and Ironman). The tall bald guy that works in toys with the goofy facial hair came over and told me that they weren't for sale until March...
Given that there are tons of people here who've purchased them. I think I'm going to contact the manager there. I think the stock guy is scalping.

I believe, they were supposed to be held until March. Even had a date on the shipping boxes.
But, unless cracked down on by store management, most toy department workers don't pay any attention to that stuff.
They always put stuff out early... Star Wars, TF movie, Spider-Man, Indy 4... you name it.
Usually, the stuff is locked out of the computer as "do not sell."
People get around that by complaining that the items were on the floor and priced, and the cashiers just go along, but I haven't even heard about that happening.
Maybe they didn't bother with the date in the system this time for some reason.

So they've got them there, just not on the floor yet hmmmmm? I was there today and they're still not on the shelves, maybe I should stop after I get out of work and try to convince someone from the night crew to let me pick up a Hulk. Apparantly they have the Wolverine Origins figs as well in the back, but I'm only looking for Deadpool which means he'll take forever for me to find. Deadpool had a gimpy left leg that needed to super-glue to tighten up the joints. Other than that, he's a pretty solid figure. What the heck were they thinking with his sai accessory?

Y'know, I'm beginning to wonder if these guys are even worth it anymore. Between having them taken from me at TRU Friday and then not finding them at Wal-mart today on their release date I'm kinda put off from getting these guys now. See the thing that gets me about the Hulk figure is this: the Hulkbuster figures from the movie line were roughly G.I. Joe sized, right? I mean, they re-used the Night-Ops Hummer from the G.I. Joe line as a Hulkbuster vehicle... so wouldn't the actual Hulk toys from the same line be in relative scale?
So doesn't that make this new Hulk too small?
I'm tempted to actually go out and buy a movie-line Hulk figure now.

Only on Daredevil. I figure that, just like with ML and GIJoe 20th, Hasbro will have a learning curve as they get used the making these figures. I pray that this issue is fixed down the road, as I could see some issues when these guys have been on the shelf awhile. Some plastics get kinda brittle over the years, as we all know.

If I remember correctly the movie Hulk was supposed to be around 9 feet tall, which means the movie version is taller than the comic version seeing as he's only 7 feet tall in the books. So yeah, the Hulk for the movie line is more accurate for THAT line, while the Universe version is more accurate for the comics line.
Unless I'm wrong of course, it HAS happened once or twice before.

Actually, I found a slew of the new MU figures at Walmart this morning - grabbed Iron Man and Green Hulk. Surprisingly, Hulk is a lot bigger than I thought he'd be from his pictures. I think the scale is good.
Oh, and I now understand what you guys are talking about when you say weak hips. Yikes! I hope those things become metal ASAP. I'm afraid of snapping Iron Man. Guess it's a good thing he can fly cuz I'm not even going to try to stuff him in my Night Ops Hummer. Surprisingly enough, the Wolverine Origins figures have rotating hip joints so it's strange that the MU figures would be so radically different and potentially flawed.
