okay for the longest time, even more now than earlier, this site's news is always weird. i mean usually when some new news comes out some of the time it doesn't get frontpaged for hours, days, or never

case in point: the first time i got record of something being completely skipped is when the wave of movie voyagers came out that consisted of thundercracker and rescue ratchet. for some reason that entire wave was skipped from being frontpaged. i found them in stores and i thought i got something early, so instead of getting the classics jetfire i needed (seriously did hasbro just hold back 99% of the wave 2 classics stock?) i got thundercracker to show i found it. what do i find out, it had been out for a whole MONTH and all i got when i found out is that i should check out the sightings area for that stuff (i understand but the frontpage is about the latest news and i think a new wave of toys being released is BIG news seeing our fandom is based off toys)

now the most recent case of a wave being skipped was wave 4 of animated: and a lot of people wanted that wave and many didn't know it was out because NOBODY FRONTPAGED IT (i know i wasn't the only one suprised to find it had been out). but what pissed me off is that ultra magnus got front paged (one figure) and wave 4 didn't (3 figures) what the hell...

and yet a very recent item, the skateboards, has gone unnoticed, when there might be fans into that stuff, we never even heard about them and i think it is news that is mentionable, but apparantely the staff thinks a pic of movie prime and the tf mosiac are more important

i understand that, but like me and a lot of the others, i usually only have time to scoot by the frontpage to see if there is anything new then i go on with my daily stuff

if you cant take the time... make the time.

I'm sure the news staff does their best... but perfection is an unreachable goal.. since everyone has their own standards.

Sorry we missed the boat on a few things. I'll take a look at how we can be more thorough at reporting new sightings. The skateboard thing probably didn't get reported because it was more of a curiosity for most people than anything newsworthy. It's a struggle sometimes to decide if something is really worth posting or if it would be dismissed by most people.

Heh, I know I for one tend to not really care too much when new stuff comes out, because it's almost always another month before it's worth checking my own stores.

If I get curious, I go to the sightings forum.

But I agree with Quantumhawk, if something can be done that makes info more available to people looking for it, we ought to find a way to do so as long as it doesn't just contribute to clutter.

I gotta agree on the Mosaic stuff. There are days when the frontpage looks like a fanfiction archive instead of a news site. The copy-and-pasted paragraph followed by a very simple one line comment about the new story in every single post is even worse. Can there just be a fanfiction forum for this thing? Does anyone even read fanfiction? Obviously there's some personal bias there, but if the frontpage is so hard up for news, they should start adding the nitpicky little TF tidbits like TFW. I'd much rather be on Allspark since it has at least half a brain cell compared to the others, but sometimes I gotta run elsewhere for new news.

I'm wagering that they keep posting the Mosaic updates since the Mosaics got their start here on the Allspark as the Allspark One-Shots. If it's not your thing, just pass over it. No one's forcing you to read them.

Thank you for seeing that aspect of logic, Wingus. Besides, the Mosaics are the only fan-related material that usually gets front-paged.

Regarding new news, sometimes we get the "BIG SUPER NEWS SCOOP!!!" but none of the N&C crew are around to post it, hence the delay. Another factor is that we're a bit more selective on sources - if it's from official sources or sanctioned by the Powers That Be (e.g., Hasbro, Dreamworks, and affiliates), then it's up. If the news are courtesy of "inside sources", we're a little more cautious for a variety of reasons (confirmation being a top one).

I will say that there are times our news doesn't come up as 'fast' because we take the time to make sure its not someone's photoshop'd artwork or fanfic ideas for what would make a cool season 3 of animated.

We have always strived.. striven..? We have always did our best to provide quality and accurate news.

And let's not forget the fact that we do break a lot of news, but some sites are just plain jerks and don't credit us.

Another is that sometimes, some sites have big announcements or mention new stuff but don't even bother citing the original source, which makes it more difficult when we want/have to check if it's for real or not. Call it paranoia, but it's a good journalism thing to remember on citing where you found it originally.

Yeah, it's a tough balance our news staff has to walk between being first and being right. I'm proud of our news team for basically always being right, and getting news out really fast as well.
