okay...i plan to start my first kitbash next week when i get paid (because there is like 20 animated jazzes at my walmart) and i need some info

1.can someone make a digibash so i can have it as a reference (pretty much flip the black with the white and vice versa)

2.what is the best type of paint to use for this? cause i want paint that will stick and last, cause i plan to play with this figure like all my others...also would it be obtainible in the craft section since the model section of wal-mart is now gone sadly

3.can people post any step by step guides that can help me(not on tfw2005 cause i am banned from there lol)

any help will be appreciated

Here's a quick and dirty guide.

1) Break down your figure to the simplest parts possible by unscrewing everything that you can.

2) Wash all the parts that are going to be painted in warm, soapy water to clean the surface of any oils, mold releases, dirt whatever could have gotten on him before he went into the package.

3) Decide how you want to paint him; hand-paint or spray paint. If you want to use spray paint (Krylon Fusions are what a lot of customizers use), you're going to want to mask off all of the joints, since the paint would just scrape off of there anyway. Masking tape will work, or tinfoil. When you're spraying a light color over a dark color, you may want to put down a primer first. Otherwise, it should be fine to just start painting, since that's what Fusions are made for. Light thin coats, you don't want the paint so thick that it starts to pool. And even if you don't get the first layer to coat. Stop after you've sprayed the whole thing. Don't try to get a perfect coat the first time by over-spraying.
If you want to hand-paint, look for a good primer to coat the figure with before painting. And you want to make sure that it goes on smooth. An extra coat of thin smooth paint is much better than one layer of thick gloppy paint. So you may want a paint thinner too (and a tiny cup/container of some sort to mix the paint thinner and paint, so you don't ruin your entire bottle of paint by using too much thinner). Again, don't paint the joints or else it'll just start to flake, or worse, seize up the joints.

4) Put a clear coat of some sort on him. Testor's Dull coat, Krylon's satin clear...You probably want to avoid anything that says gloss, since this is an Animated toy.

5) Screw him back together!

As for what paints, Testor's Model Master Acryl (that's different from the Testor's you can buy at Walmarts) is probably your best bet. And/or Krylon's Fusions if you decide to spray him.

thanks...that will help a lot

seriously....it is hilarious that you are always the first to reply to my threads lol

please....i need a digibash of animated deluxe jazz as ricochet for a reference for my first kitbash

so can someone do it...just flip flop the white and black and add ricochet decals just for starters
Jeremy
That's asking a lot, most white to black changes are super tough in Photoshop. You'd be better off printing off the line art from the instructions and figuring out a color layout for your custom yourself.

Here's a very quick, very sloppy attempt, using some animation line art (not based on the toy, so obviously, you'd need to modify the look):

i REALLY like the look of that
Cheetimus Primal
Hell, I like the look of that! Looks like I have an excuse to buy another Jazz.... like I needed an excuse.
It's San Holo!
Now do Botcon Ricochet!

well...there is a little cramp in my plans...you see i got a very tiny paycheck and all i got is $10 to spend on transformers from now till maybe october 1st or even longer....so i am either going to have to do this.....or get one of the last figures i am desperately craving (swoop, ironhide, or sideswipe....the others i want but i can get later on when things get back on track)

....DAMN...i just relized.....i can't afford BLITZWING.....NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so this thread is SADLY postponed until i can get my money situation sorted out.....cheets if you want, you can use this thread to post ricochet in here if you make him
Cheetimus Primal
That really stinks, man. Hopefully you'll get something good for yourself.
And thanks for being cool with me posting something. Here's what I have so far thanks to you and Mr. Bacon up there. He's not done but I like the results at this point.

Jeremy
Wow man, that really looks like it's going places. No big shocker though, your stuff is always quality. Are there going to be any flames added? It doesn't look like you're too close to done yet, since there are a couple spots still unchanged from Jazz.
Cheetimus Primal
Thanks, bro.
Not sure about the car deco just yet. I'll probably hand paint some stylized flames or something. And the odd part is the unchanged bits, like the feet and lower torso/thighs, are painted over. Better lighting would show the white to be off white. A very, very light gray. I kinda like those colors as they are. The hip pockets will be getting painted like the digibash above.

HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! dude....you owe me new pants man....i am like the biggest fan of ricochet ever (yes i am optimus major from tfw2005 and nobody noticed HA) and i am just in awe in how good that looks

but i say take some paint styling from jazz....i mean you notice in g1 jazz head was all black and now it is only the headphones are black....so make the head cap black and the headphones white to make it even more different from jazz (just a thought)

seriously.....i could kiss your feet for making my dream come true

Yeah, it actually does mostly look right with the black and white the way it is. Unlike G1, Animated Jazz has white on more of the robot parts in addition to the vehicle parts, so it's not as easy to swap everything black for white. Maybe just finish the hip pockets, and possibly put the gold on the feet too? I think some subtle, stylized gold flames would be the best, I guess maybe just on the doors?

Random thought, but I always think of Chuck Taylor All-Stars when I see Animated Jazz's feet.

Anyway, I love that from your picture there, he looks like a factory produced toy. Makes me want one. icon-op.gif
Bass X0
Now give him his original G1 Targetmaster. He can hold it.

LOL... and here I was just goofing around with the digibash idea. Looks nice!

Just... Don't make a Shatterd Glass Animated Ricochet.

*shudder*
Cheetimus Primal
If the toy was as evil as that art it would rule all.
Wingus
I wouldn't mind seeing an Animated Ricochet that was a mashup of the traditional colors and the SG ones. Black car parts with red body parts, using white as a trim, maybe?

He's evil because he was drawn by the freak behind Kiss Players.
Wingus

Weremole
Didn't know that. Wich makes it totally awesome.

Could use some more overseas exhange as oficial art goes. icon-hotrod.gif

Cheets - two questions -

can we see car mode?

Do you get rid of any factory paint first? i'm doing a bash of jazz too, and i've been busting my hump trying to get rid of the colors on the hood. they're "almost" gone, is that enough? i'm going darker for my paitnjob.
Cheetimus Primal
Eh, car mode is pretty boring right now. As I said I plan on adding some flame deco eventually.

Also I never understood why people try to remove factory paint. It's simply never needed. Wash the thing with soap and water and you're good.

There are two very opposite schools on this, that's why I was doing that. where did you take him apart at? do you break figs down as best you can, or just mask things off?
Cheetimus Primal
The only parts I took off were his head and his legs. I only remove parts when they get in the way or I need to get at something inside them like light piping.
maximus prime3
how's the perdy thing coming along?
