I'm sure that many sparkers, myself included, are planning to put together a team of Combaticons (which will combine to form Bruticus) to complement the new Onslaught mold. I thought it would be good to start a thread where we could compare notes, plus I need your help!
I personally don't like painting my custom figures because no matter what you do, the paint always chips off with play (especially when transforming). To that end, I'm planning on using molds that already resemble the G1 Combaticons, and simply adding new heads, the combiner parts, and tiny paint details where needed.
So far the best options I can think of are deluxe Movie Brawl for Brawl, Blackout for Vortex, and Target Exclusive scout Crosshairs for Swindle (wish he were a deluxe, but I can make it work). I am having TREMENDOUS trouble thinking of a deluxe sized space shuttle for Blast Off. I would be ok with a Space Shuttle mold or a Fighter Jet for Blast Off, just provided he is a deluxe. Classics Astrotrain doesn't work in either American or Henkei colors because I can't see that mold as anything other than Astrotrain. Anyone have any other thoughts?
Please feel free to post your plans, recipe, photos, ect.

Seems like this is more of an Iacon thing.

hey there.
I'm actually working on a similar project. However, I properly prime, use enamel paints, and sealers - so my paint hardly chips at all.
You can also look into dying plastics, if you are that skeptical.
I'm not digging your line up for Combaticons...I think mixing universe with Movie line with other lines...is gonna look like a mess.
I am using the following molds for my Bruticus:
Universe Onslaught (Onslaught)
Armada Jetfire (Blast Off)
Alternator Swindle (Swindle)
Cybertron Evac (Vortex)
Crossover TF Hulk with heavy mods (Brawl)

Right now I just have Cybertron Swindle hanging out with Onslaught.
I'm debating whether or not I want to customize Crossovers Hulk into Brawl. On the one hand, I really like the mold, but it really doesn't resemble G1 Brawl at all. On the other other hand neither do Onslaught and Swindle, really. Plus, I like the idea of Brawl being a brawler and not having any ranged weapondry. You know, think I just talked myself into doing it.
As for Blast Off and Vortex, I don't know. For Vortex I may customize a Energon Bulkhead or something to keep some semblance of scale. Blast off is a different story. I have no idea what I'll do there.
Combining is obviously tossed by the wayside.

Well, Drag Strip's lineup would look much better scaling-wise. And Alternators is, stylistically, even further out anyway - it has more of a cartoon look to it that Universe, AEC and the Movie don't.
Blastoff should have been a fighter from the start. I'd go with that black repaint of the Movie Deluxe jet, personally.

I disagree, movie figs have no place in a gestalt next to universe. Alternator swindle will look like a classics next to the rest of them. he's hardly different from the others, especially where his entire chest is still a jeep's front.
I guess we'll see

Well, considering Blast-Off's name... I'd say a VTOL jet is ideal. However, like frenzy_rumble said... movieverse stuff doesn't mesh well with Universe/Classics/AEC aesthetics.
I recommend using Armada Thrust for a jet-version Blast-Off, myself.

And that would be appropriate in scale and more in-style than Overcast. Good call.
I still think Brawl and Blackout will look reasonably in-style with new heads. Brawl, especially, is extremely blocky and solid-looking and wouldn't look unreasonable standing next to Onslaugt. (Cut off the cow-catchers, though!)

Do you want to keep the "Evil law enforcement" angle on things? Onslaught was a missile carrier, now he's a SWAT van... so perhaps Vortex is now a police chopper, Swindle is an off-road pursuit vehicle, and Brawl could be the heavy SWAT tank... If you're trying to keep general sizes realistic from mold to mold, how about turning Energon Ironhide into Brawl, modifying it into another armored (and armed) SWAT truck? You might even be able to keep the "Powerlink" joints to attach him to Onslaught...
Alternately, Energon Inferno/Hoist?
You know, you could make a MASSIVE gestalt by using the larger combining Autobots from the Energon line (Ironhide as Brawl, Jetfire as Blast Off, and Sandstorm as Swindle)...

Wasn't planning on it. was actually gonna use another unicron kibble like my other gestalts, but looking at the size of this, I think if somehow those legs could detach then reattach somewhere else in combined mode...might have something.

just my 2 cents on the matter
eneergon barricade for onslaught
energon sledge for swindle
classics/universe2.0 superion maximus's airrazor for blast off
classics/universe 2.0 bruticus maximus vortex and brawl for vortex and brawl
with a bit of headswappingfor all five figures and the combiner form and a bit of partswapping to give blastoof classics astrotrains chest wing and main wings and a bit of bashing to make swindle look like a large jeep/hummer i believe that would pretty much go a long way towards making brutivcus maximus into being a true g1 style bruticus

Yeah, but the idea here is to think . . . big. Really big.
