How long will this story arc last for?

Its fifty years in the future, there was some great battle many years ago in which the heroes were soundly thrashed. Wolverine stopped being Wolverine and hasn't popped his claws since that battle. He now has a family and looks quite old and lives on a farm in the middle of nowhere.

Seems interesting - I might keep reading this one.
Stackups immy
apparently this, i think Fantastic Four, and the 1985 series are all connected...i love stuff like that.
MrBlud
That's interesting Immy, where did you hear that?
PiratedTVPro
You forgot to mention that it's Old Man Logan and Old Man Hawkeye traveling
cross-country in the SPIDER-MOBILE. YES. You read that right. How can you
not love this?

From Newsarama:
QUOTE
“The thing that really links them is a man called Clyde Wyncham. He's introduced in 1985, but also features heavily in Fantastic Four and is pivotal in the origins of Old Man Logan. But there's other, more direct ways too. The FF have time-travel capabilities and this allows them in the second story (“The Death of the Invisible Woman”) to travel into the future and meet the future Wolverine from Old Man Logan. Plus the incident in 1985 is reflected through the two other main series. It really pulls everything together and even, quite naughtily, gets a major scene in Kick-Ass. This is naughty because it's not a Marvel book, but we've done it in such a way that nobody can sue. It's really more of an Easter Egg in Kick-Ass, but remember that both Kick-Ass and Marvel 1985 are set in our world, the real world, and so they should touch each other a little. Wolverine, I think, is going to be the monster book, though. Steve and I keep calling each other up and giggling with glee. We're very excited about this book and think it's going to hit horribly, horribly big.
MrBlud
That's awesome.

And isn't Logan traveling with Hawkeye and not Daredevil? icon-ironhide.gif

Sorry, you're right... But Hawkeye is blind... So that's where that came from...
Internet Jesus
I'm eagerly awaiting new issues of OML, 1985 and FF.

I hear rumblings of Clyde Wyncham being Doom's mentor in magic. Hopefully that's NOT the case.
DarkDestroyer
I think its a six or seven issue run...and you guys forgot to mention Spider-Bitch! Peter Parker's daughter but but but HAWKEYE'S GRANDDAUGTER!!! This future was first mentioned in the aforementioned Fantastic Four run that Millar and Hitch are currently involved with. I'm loving it so far...there are two issues out so far.

There's more than enough in the first issue to surprise someone... There's the prolouge,
the trio who shows up at the house, not to mention the map that lays out their travels...

Also, the arc lasts 8 issues. The arc has its own Wikipedia Page.
BleedWell
When is the next issue due out? I feel like it should be here by now.
DarkDestroyer
I think next week the next issue comes out I could be wrong though...

I understand that Kick-ass will also somehow be involved.

Who knows?

Issue 2 is out today, and is AMAZING. That is all.
Internet Jesus
Indeed. I'm totally going to make a Hammer Falls diorama.

This issue had me salivating. Honestly I havent been a fan of everything Millar has done, but this and last issue hooked me.

I really love the mythology that he's building here. Everything seems
very organic and unforced, unlike other things he's written. It all just
seems to make perfect sense, even though he's throwing out these
insane ideas and expecting us to believe it without an ounce of real
explanation.
DarkDestroyer
^ That is pretty much exactly what he's doing with the series. I'm just looking forward to seeing Spider-Bitch when she is revealed.

Dark Destroyer
Bass X0
You mean Hawkeye and Peter Parker's daughter's child?
DarkDestroyer
^ Yeah...Millar revealed in last month's Wizard that she was called Spider-Bitch and was basically Hawkeye's granddaughter! I can't wait to see this.

Dark Destroyer
Bass X0
Just reading the third issue...

wow. Ashley is badass. and now i understand why she is called Spider-Bitch. She knows how to make it in this world when she's given the oppurtunity.
Knight in Rusty Armor
off to read..
Bass X0
and now i've read the fourth issue online.

okay but the secrets get revealed next issue. gah.
DarkDestroyer
I'm getting this when it comes out next summer or thereabouts in TPB format! Its been a weird but fun ride so far and I'm looking forward to Logan finally cutting loose, if that ever happens.

Dark Destroyer
Bass X0
Oh Wolverine, you should have realised something was wrong.
MrBlud
Yeah, pretty much everyone saw that coming.

...even though Wolverine has level 9 psi shielding installed by Charles.
Internet Jesus
Mysterio's powers aren't psychic.
CanPrime
From reading this thread I know I'm in the minority here.

Anyway, here goes.

This story arc is not really all that great. I'm not saying that the writing is bad, but to me this is just WANTED in the future of the Marvel Universe. Not that dreck of a movie, but the actual comic.

We jump in with our protagonist after the "end." This time it is a hero and not the son of a villain. Anyway, we have a world that is different thanks to no heroes. Then we find out a "Big, Last Battle" took place between heroes and villains. The villains won by using subtlety first, then the battle. And so we go about finding out how the villains have divided up the world and we have a protagonist who hasn't reached his potential yet. Travelling with a guide who will most likely end up having to help him come to terms with things and "reach his potential."

While I can appreciate the writing, and using the Marvel universe as the backdrop, I really can't get past the fact that this is MOSTLY recycled material from WANTED.
Maxx Blast
I actually had drawn the comparison to Wanted, but now that I've heard it, it's painfully obvious.

This is a frighteningly entertaining story, much like the rest of Millar's work.

It just isn't very good. It's fun, just as most of his other books are but in comparison with his peers' work, he's really lacking.
Bass X0
Yeah, I wouldn't call it good. But I do enjoy reading it.

It feels more like a "What If..." though?

HIGHLIGHT to view:
"What If... Wolverine Killed The X-Men?"
Chris McFeely
Like most Millar stories, it's a chain of quite entertaining "cool things" happening one after the other, but without much of an actual story to back them up and give them anything more than the "oooooh" factor.

Well the presentation matches the story set up: "Wolverine and Hawkeye go on a cross-country road trip to deliever a package." And just like any road trip story "cool things" happen along the way.
Zodberg
Right now, I feel like I should have started reading Kickass instead.
wonko the sane?
Is this an ongoing story or a short series? Cus from reading the thread, I could really get into this.
Bass X0
I've no idea. Seems from the setting that its a short story thats going to end soon after Logan and Hawkeye deliver the package. But I'm enjoying it so I'm not really bothered either way.
wonko the sane?
I ask because I want to know if I need to jump in and buy individual comics now, or if I can wait and get a trade.
Nick Shogun
I can live with the 'big battle' scenario. It's not that unrealistic; it's the natural conclusion villains should reach in a situation when they're vastly outnumbered and underpowered. What bothers me is that the person who finally 'broke' Wolverine was:

HIGHLIGHT to view:
Mysterio? COME ON!
Bass X0
Yeah. It was that reveal that really drove home that this story was more like a fantasy non-canon "What If..." than a true story. At least for me.
Zodberg
There's been several Mysterios of varying levels of power. Typically they're just illusionists, but the idea that a psychic one emerges is entirely possible.
A bigger question is how Wolverine was able to use his claws to kill Iceman. Unless he was only seen as dead. Of course everybody in that scene was wearing their modern outfits, except for Jubilee. So it's a kind of a wtf as far as continuity goes.
Word on the street is that the time traveling Fantastic Four from Millar's run on that book will show up at some point.

I'm pretty surprised that what nobody has been mentioning is that Hawk-Eye apparently tapped Spiderman's daughter. There has to be at least a twenty year age difference there.
Bass X0
I enjoyed the last issue which I just read.

Some good scenes with the Red Skull, the ending of this issue was particularly sad but sets up a potentially great finale.
Reload
The ending was particulary badass, yeah.

I think they're doing a giant-sized special to round up the story, dunno if it's been mentioned already.

I love alternative "What If?" fantasy stories, makes me wonder why I've never really got into Exiles...
Bass X0
Yeah, it said on the last page that it would be concluded in a giant-sized special.

Actually, that's been my favorite part thus far. It's really similar to the Batman scenario; if given proper prep time, Batman could supposedly take down anyone? Whether or not that's true, it's no doubt what happened here. Wolverine is so reliant on his enhanced senses that the idea is beautiful in its simplicity.
Betty Nor
Umm, Spider-Bitch is Spider-man's grand-daughter and Hawkeye's daughter.
Not the other way around.

This story is pretty corny, but I've always been a sucker for "what if" dystopia stories.
Internet Jesus
THREAD NECROMANCY!

Well, that ending just confirmed that the Hooded Man in Fantastic Force is Old Man Logan, and Bruce Banner Jr.'s origins are told.

Excellent story. Brutal in the usual Millar Wolverine style, and ended in a little Lone Wolf and Cub homage of sorts.
Destron D-69
going to buy the trade or hardcover of this when it comes out...
