Bumblebee and Bulkhead are having fun celebrating their first-ever Halloween. That is, until the Decepticon Blackarachnia shows up to ruin their good times.

I so seriously screeched! I was expecting Ariel, but dang, daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaang
Okay, now that I've calmed down some: While I know the key is gonna tick people off, at least the bots are noticing it and not happy about it's use.
And Sari's costume is so cute ^_^ And yes, she did nail ops there

At least now we have a better idea why Sentinel's a jerk, he blames Prime for something that's essentially HIS (Sentinel's) fault.

Holy Allspark! This episode was a real twist! Black Arachnia was once Elita-1, Optimus Prime's girlfriend! I didn't see that coming! It did have a sad ending though. The writers made it so you can't help but feel sorry for her.

You all should get a kick out of more negative effects from Sari's key, and it even failed to function once.

Well, Optimus was deeply hurt that she was dead (she wasn't dead) back on Planet Spider, not to mention Blackarachnia does cry at the end, which I'm guessing that means the two of them have feelings for each other.

The way those two interact - especially when she's Blackarachnia and going up against him - you definitely get SOME kind of tension. There's something going on there, but I don't think they were dating at least. More like the robot equivelant of unresolved sexual tension.

Well, holy crap.
BW Black Arachnia is dead to me. Forget that self-centered bitch. MUCH better character.
The implications of this episode are HUGE. Now we know why Optimus ditched the academy, and why he won't talk about it, we know why Sentinel hates his guts, we have a potential love triangle, we have ENERGON CUBES, and did we mention, SARIS KEY HAS CONSEQUENCES.
Did you see it? THe key can literally drain the life-force from *all* organic life. If Megatron got his hands on that - well, bye-bye Earth.
It would have been a perfect episode but for a few small things. FIrst, Prowl and Ratchet were entirely absent. Wonder what they're doing while the Giant Spider is terrorizing everybody. Secondly, while cute, the whole Halloween bit kinda distracted from the overall feel of the episode. I know they made one side of it light-hearted to try and combat all the, well, darkness that went on this episode, but it just detracted, IMO.
But save those, it was excellent. Not quite Thrill of the Hunt, but right behind it. Man, Animated can do no wrong, at this point.

I didn't think this episode was particularly good. Certainly nowhere in the league of "The Thrill of the Hunt." I'm not really sure how to explain it, but it felt... lacking. It just didn't grab me. And am I the only one bothered by the fact that both of the female Transformers we've seen on this show have been portrayed as victims?

Not in the slightest, as it's a common storytelling device to use female characters as a means of gleaning pathos. It's not sexism so much as it is a sort of innate way of evoking an emotional response from the audience.

Dude, we've been indundated with TF female stereotypes since 'The Search For Alpha Trion' waltzed it way onto the screen 20 years ago. If she's not a Pink Princess, she's the cold-heartless 'bitch'. If it's only just *now* starting to bug you, then you haven't kept up.

Well spiders are a part of Halloween, so it made sense. The potential love triangle is a good idea, however, upon seeing the episode, I'm leaning towards an Optimus PrimeXBlackarachnia coupling.

True that us poor wittle women get to be the victims. But BA has now turned Darth Vader instead of just thanking the men for being saved. Also something new! Both times, the men have failed to save the women! Ratchet couldn't save Arcee and now this!...Guys suck =D
Edit- Even going back to G1. Prime kinda screwed over the femms too when he just kinda left them to fend for themselves. And then Eilta-1 saves him in the end.

I loved the episode. Some great characterization there, and I loved Sari's and Bulkhead's costumes. Nice to see that not every one of the main cast has to be on every episode too.
Bulkhead's jaw becoming loose and then falling off was priceless!
I also really liked the VA for BA even though I usually don't like her voice over work. Nice to see they remain consistant with using the Cybertron modes where they belong.
I like how Blackarachnia was crying at the end, showing her organic side since Bulkhead didn't know what crying was in the pilot movie.

Her crying makes her one of the most developed characters I have seen (well, all of them are well-developed). I don't like it when Sentinel was holding Elita! Gross! Right before the end, I thought for a moment, BA and Optimus were going to kiss each other!

The part where I said "this show" indicates that I was talking about, you know,
this show. Also, we have had female Transformers who don't fall into either of the two categories you describe.
Freedom fighters,
legendary generals,
planetary leaders, etc. I would have liked to have seen female Autobots on Animated in those sorts of roles, but so far we're two for two on the "girl robot = victim" score, and I find that disappointing.

Why is everyone calling BA a victim? Acree was cause she was literally helpless on the floor with a leg missing waiting to be saved. Just like any chick in a horror movie. You know the one that falls over nothing and then just can't seem to get back up right as the killer is slowly walking towards them? But BA just got the short end of the stick with that one. It dosn't matter if she's the female, it would have been the same thing if Prime fell. No rescue needed cause the whole ship is going to explode! Que the Avenue Q' song, It Sucks To Be Me!
