Quite possible this thread will get turned into it, so...BIG SPOILERS BELOW.
I am definitely digging this Megatron. Love the subtle vocal change in his voice when he's trying to sugarcoat Sumdac, and he becomes less villainous and almost...likable. Very well done.
As soon as he said "my propsects on this planet are GRIM..." I chuckled a bit...then he added "locked, on this planet". So now we've got an origin for this Grimlock's name.
Kinda wonder why no one picked up on the Dinobots looking different after they got hit with the EMP/key storm. Just a simple "hmm, looks like the energy burned off their synthskin" would've been enough.
Nice to know we're in the year 21XX, now.
What the heck are up with Fanzone's eyes? I don't remember them looking like that before. He's got the weird "eyes closed" thing going on (like Kitsune from Love Hina).
Tons of great one-liners here. "You call
breathing fire a glitch?"
Definite shades of G1 here. Prime's a jerk and is more than ready to shut the Dinobots down...for good. As soon as Bulkhead said "transport them somewhere they'll do less damage" I thought "Dinobot Island"...and was glad to see them end up there. Very interesting to see Bulkhead and Prowl go out of their way to save the Dinobots. At the rate he's going, Prowl will be able to overthrow Prime based on strength of personal relationships alone.

"Me Grimlock!"
Oh, nerdgasm.
Loved the episode. Loved it. Plausible origin story for the fan-favorite Dinobots. More character development (the Prowl/Bulkhead relationship), nice use of humor (BH: "He said good thinking." BB: "And Bulkhead!"), a manipulative Megatron. What more could you ask for?
I was glad to see Grimlock transform before the end of the ep. MAN I want one now.
Final thought: Prowl just keeps growing on me. At this rate, he could end up my favorite Autobot by the time it's all said and done.

rather liked this ep, Grimlock is spot on. kinda wonder if swoop and slag have the same competence as him yet though. I did laugh when Bulkhead used Slags line on him.
Megatron playing Sumdac is definetly working well. and the bulkhead/Prowl Growth was interesting as well.

I squeaaalled. What can I say, I like the dinos ^_^ And of note, while the key thing is getting even more use, it may become a problem now that Megs knows about it. BTW- Sumdac is just digging himself in even deeper.

Didn't this episode also cover Ratchet's past or is that another episode?

Not quite as good as last weeks. Grimlocks voice was win. G1 epic. Sad that Swoop and Slag haven't learned to talk yet.
Megatron is moving silently in the background, poor Sumdac's too absentminded to realize what he's up too. Little stretching the credibility there.
Still enjoyable! Can't wait till next week.

I about died laughing at Bulkhead's "Scuse me!"
And I really, really like Prowl so far. He and Bulkhead win for Unlikeliest Friends Ever, which just adds to the coolness factor for both of them.
To Magnusblitz' comment in previous thread, about Prime wanting to shut the Dinobots down... I wonder if that's going to eventually set up another G1-ish moment in a later episode, recalling one of my favorite G1 Prime lines ever which I will now probably misquote: "Even the wisest of man and machine can make an error." This Optimus seems like one who might do what
Rodimus Prime, in my opinion, should've done better in G1: "grow up" into his role as time goes on.

I loved the episode. It was a much more enjoyable ep than the g1 introduction.
The debate between Prowl/Sumdac where Sumdac kept saying it's just a machine, to justify melting/killing etc... The reckless human tendency to disregard lower beings vs the autobot philosophy of protection. It's a nice angle to explore for a kid's show. In g1 it was just Ratchet/Wheeljack wanting to save face/save their pride by making an invention work.
Megatron playing Sumdac is nice to see. As was the video convincing the Dinobots that cars EAT dinosaurs. Megatron played them well too.
Not to mention, the autobots are starting to get more and more suspicious about Sari's key. Who was it? Bumblebee that mentioned the possibility of the new dinobots being partially the fault of Sari's key mixed with the EMP?
Like the EMP too. Creative use of powers and powerful.
Prowl continues to shine. He's easily my favorite character on the show. Ninja skill, compassion, etc... He leads more than Prime does.
Also, Animated Prime is a dick. He's just like eh melt em down-they're just machines. Right after Prowl says they might have sparks.
No wonder he washed out of the academy.
Also, to anyone in the older threads who didn't think they adequately showed Bulkhead's super strength...WATCH THIS EP!

Yeah, I keep smiling whenever he says "Car Robots". Thats got to be an intentional reference.
Oh and if only Windcharger was there instead of Ratchet. He would have beaten the Dinobots easily...

It was an enjoyable romp. Megatron continues to prove that whatever else happens, he knows how to manipulate the situation to his advantage.

Actually, I think it was Megatron that noticed the power of Sari's key while watching the incident on TV. I have a feeling Meg's is gonna try to get his hands on it soon(well, if he HAD hands anyway).

Great as it was, I noticed an overarching plot hole that's kind of important to the whole thing. Sumdac is on a first-name basis with Megatron, given that he almost says it in this episode. That's all fine and good... except Sumdac was there in the pilot movie when Bulkhead said Megatron was the leader of the Decepticons (and of course there's the part with Starscream talking about him that we know was recorded and in turn was probably part of a news report, let alone being accessible by Sumdac's computer to begin with). Smooth-talking aside, he should be able to put two and two together.
Solarstorm
Jan 12 2008, 12:45 PM
Maybe Starscream confused him. Starscream was definitely a bad guy...and he talked about destroying Megatron. So maybe Sumdac got confused and figured that if star scream killed/hurt him, then he must be good.

Sumdac's been showcased to be extremely absent minded. And given the events that followed immediatly after that, I wouldn't at all be surprised if no one even remembers what was exactly said.

Where is Starscream anyway?
Would he really be the type to have stayed away from this kind of action?
Zedoben
Jan 12 2008, 12:52 PM
Absent minded isn't the word for it. I'm convinced that Sumdac is a savant. He's got a lot of talent when it comes to robotics and various other scientific pursuits, but he's easily manipulated and has rather poor memory when his work isn't involved. Makes me wonder how he was able to found and control a huge corporation given how easily he's manipulated(Maybe the missing Mrs Sumdac actually ran the business side of things).

I think Prowl was expecting too much from Bulkhead. Bulkhead is built like an elephant - big body, short limbs - whereas Prowl has a slim body and long limbs. Obviously Bulkhead just can't be as graceful as Prowl, its just the way his body was designed.
