I thought since we'd finally given Joe their own thread for new news, and many of us are into SW as well, it only made sense to have a general thread. I figured we could start it out with some new info from over at
Rebelscum, bold face added to the stuff I'm most excited about.

The 411: Hasbro's 2008 Plans
Posted by D_Martin on December 16, 2007 at 03:24 PM CST:
As we know, Lucasfilm will be releasing the first three episodes of their new Clone Wars Animated Epic theatrically in the late summer before it begins on television. Hasbro will be ready with the following:
Clone Wars 3 ¾” Basic Figures
Needless to say, based on the very warm reception the character designs have received from the Star Wars collecting community, this is a line that will be very successful. While we can expect to see 17 figures in 2008, don’t be surprised to find even more coming out after that.
Clone Wars Clone Trooper Helmet
This roll playing helmet will feature a voice amplifier and pre-recorded phrases from the show. It will be package in an interactive try Me box.
Clone Wars Ultimate Lightsabers
Basically, a repackaged, and possibly retooled build-your-own Lightsaber set. Packaged in a clone Wars themed window box.
The Force Unleashed Basic Figure Assortment
The other big sub-collection for 2008 will be Force Unleashed. Based on what we’ve seen so far, this collection will not let us down in design or character variety. Beyond what we’ve seen, collectors can expect additional waves to be released throughout the year.
Star Wars 3 ¾” Basic Figures Assortment
Pushing the action figure pack ins in an altogether new direction, Hasbro will be offering the first build-a-figure promotion in the 3 3/4 “ basic line. The Droid Factory waves is currently planned to include 30 figures in 2008, each with an additional piece that together will create one big droid. Let the speculation begin on this one.
Star Wars Evolution Packs
The popular Evolutions collection is finally coming back in 2008, and we couldn’t be happier. While there have been a lot of rumours as to what could possibly come out, all we can say at this time is that Hasbro is currently planning 8 different sets for 2008.
Star Wars Comic Two packs
For 2008, collectors should be seeing 15 new two packs. Following the themes we’ve seen so far, chances are good most, if not all, will be based on the modern comics.
Star Wars Battle Packs
Hasbro wants to give us 18 new 3 ¾” action figure Battle Packs in the new year.
Star Wars 3 ¾” scale Vehicles Assortments
Now here’s some exciting news that should get Star Wars collectors excited for 2008…
Star Wars 3 ¾” Vehicle Basic Assortment
For 2008, Hasbro plans on releasing 10 icon vehicles.
Star Wars AT-TE
This bad boy is going to be big. Packaged for the Clone Wars Series, Collectors can expect to see a vehicle with lights and sounds that can fit no less than 20 clone troopers!
Star Wars Millenium Falcon
You’ve demanded it, and Hasbro will deliver! (Assuming enough retailers order this at Toy Fair). The current plan is a retooled Falcon that cannot only has lights, sounds, and firing missiles, it also has character sound bites and can fit 20 figures! Want to insure this one happens? Here’s the soundest advice in the world: Ask your local retailers to get it and buy it at full price when it comes out. Waiting for large vehicles to hit discount will close the large vehicle and playset opportunities forever
Galactic Heroes Two Pack Assortment
This line will explode with another 28 two packs planned for the new year.
Galactic Heroes Vehicle Assortment
There are currently 5 vehicles planned for 2008.
Star Wars Roll Play Blasters Assortment
Hasbro will be repackaging their Clone Trooper, Rebel Soldier, and General Grievous blasters in the new year.
Exclusives
Amongst the exclusives being offered in 2008, collectors should be on the look out for the following:
The Force Unleashed Jungle Rancor Battle Pack
Jabba’s Palace Rancor Battle Pack
Jabba’s Skiff Guards Battle Pack
The Force Unleashed Battle Pack
Aayla Secura Jedi Starfighter
Clone Wars Battle Pack
Beyond that, collectors can also expect 18 new Unleashed Battle Packs, some new Star Wars Transformers, and 5 waves of Mighty Muggs that will give us 22 figures in 2008.
HOLY CARP! Finally an AT-TE! I seriously can't wait for this. I always loved the AT-AT, but ever since I saw the AT-TE, I was hooked. Thank goodness for the Clone Wars show, b/c there's no way we'd get this otherwise. Also, I'm really excited about the Falcon. I love my (nearly) 30 year old Millenium Falcon, but I'm all about a redesign to bring it a little more in scale with itself if nothing else, i.e fixing the landing gear boxes to make the overall shape a bit sleeker among other things.
I have to chuckle at the appeal to go and buy at full price, but in the end it is true I suppose. The good thing is these are all cool enough I'm willing to plunk down the duckets to keep them going.

I'm don't really collect Star Wars figures, but am intrigued by a new Falcon. The old mold got a lot of use, but it would be nice to see a more proportional toy. Sadly, I don't have the space for it, and probably won't like it enough to shell out the one hundred bucks it'll probably cost.

^ I'm sure that's gonna happen, just have patience.
I'm not even a SW fan anymore, and couldn't resist some of the newer EU figures (those McQuarries, Darth Malak, the new Mara, etc.), as well as CZ-4, which I swore I'd buy if they ever did a figure of.

And maybe more twi'leks, an Unleashed Bib Fortuna would be pretty sweet.

Dec 17 2007, 02:22 PM
There are those giant spider-walker "Droids" that you can pilot in the Battlefront games. Those would probably all work out to be about the right size. Other sizable droids are the Vulture Droids, Tri-Droids and Hailfire droids, but those have all been made as part of the vehicle line.
Of course, I hope that it's something else entirely though. None of those are really all that interesting.

I think it is going to be the bigger spider droid things from the Battle on Kyshykk (sp?). I seem to recall Hasbro saying they were putting out a smaller spider droid thing, but they wanted to do a larger one.

Surprise of surprises, I found Darth Revan today here in Tokyo.
Oh.my.gawd. Hasbro, what were you thinking? Revan is a fantastic figure -- from the waist up.
He has no articulation in his legs. Worse still is that they're pre-posed in a weird way - like PotF2 weird. Trying to get this guy to stand up and look half-way decent is a chore in and of itself.
It's such a shame that a figure developed solely to pander to the collector community came up so short. It's true that his hard-good cloak would hamper most if not all knee articulation, but would ball-jointed ankles have been so hard? For at least the purpose of getting him to stand up correctly?
So disappointed.

Dec 26 2007, 05:54 AM
Yeah, Revan is a bit of a disapointment, but I'm still happy with "him". I've wanted a figure of 'em for quite some time, and now we begin the waiting for the rest of the KOTOR cast.
Betty Nor
Dec 26 2007, 06:11 AM
I'll just keep hope out that if we ever get a KOTOR box set, they'll fix this little "issue." I'd even buy another Malak again just to get a proper legged Revan.
Also, his skin-top dome is a little odd considering that he can either be male or female - neither of which have a head like Darth Vader. Oh well. Better luck next time.

I got the two Mandalorian exclusive packs and they are awesome. I have been incessantly talking about Omega Squad for a good year and I was floored to finally get a chance to own them.
Now my "Rest Home for Clone Troopers" also has a bunch of Mandos in it. Welcome to Keldabe, capital of Mandalore....
What's tragic is that I have the Holiday Special Boba Fett, the Concept Boba Fett, a pile of clones...and NO regular Boba Fett and no Jango. So I'd like to get them in the next year.

While I have a bunch of Jangos and Bobas, I've shoved them all in a box and put that in the attic. All in anticipation of the Evolutions set with Mandalore, which I hope will have some decent articulation for the Fetts.
And since they were mentioned, I've merged my Animated Debut Fett and two loose Concept Fetts into the Mandalorian trainers. They're different enough from Boba for me to consider them new characters, and they look pretty good among the Clones and Mandalorians.

You found him in Tokyo?! I still haven't found him or Malak in NY!
Well, if you have the guts to mod him (I know I don't

), I found a
link to swap his legs with a Death Star Trooper's legs.
It's a shame though, I've
always felt fans aren't supposed to mod figures when the company could have just used the right parts (like those legs) in the first place.
But I still want him, I
just beat KoTOR days ago.

Don't lament too greatly. He costed $10-11 here in Tokyo.
I'm intrigued at this "boil and pop" method. I may want to try it at some point. Of course, that means that I have to track down another Death Star Trooper, which is no simple feat here in Tokyo.
Anyone ever tried the "boil and pop" method? Is it particularly easy or more risky? I'll be super-pissed if I accidentally break Revan trying to fix something that should have never been a problem in the first place.

I'll most likely get the AT-RT Driver and Commander Vill, I'm not sure on the, er, BARC Trooper. Had it been an actual BARC Trooper, then yes, Neyo needs more troops. Another Kashyyk Trooper, I'm not completely sold on. I have two of the Scout Trooper Repaints and I was planning on getting two of the new sculpts. Hmm, maybe if this one's flip-up visor follows the new sculpt I'll get one of these and one of the non-flip-up ones.

There hasn't been many Stormtrooper molds that I actually like. The new super-articulated one is close, but it just looks odd...But the new sculpt for the Sandtrooper with the big gun is a little better. It's amazing what putting the legs at a slight angle will do for poseability.
Speaking of Sandtroopers, I must admit that I fell for all the variants. I think I have all of them now, white, gray, black, orange, orange with concussion rifle...I even made a red pad one to represent the one from Dark Forces 2.
