The only reason I'm not playing right now is because I have to eat at some point.
I've only played with the drums so far and wow, I haven't had this much fun sucking at a rhythm since the day the first Guitar Hero came out. I've got to get a group of people together so we can rock the hug out!
COMPLAINT #1: The drum pads are freaking loud when you whack 'em. I'll have to crank the volume to drown them out and the neighbors won't be happy.

I played the game a little at a demo they had set up in WalMart, and the drums are a lot of fun, but I agree, the noise it makes when you hit it is quite unsatisfying. Maybe wrapping some cloth or masking tape around the end of the sticks would help?

I got it (the last one too) but, I it's technically a gift for the brother so it won't be opened until Thursday. On that day I'll force everyone in my family to play it.
Luckily, not having to worry about it being in stock or not helps tide me over.

I'm really looking forward to playing this--singing, learning the drums, rocking out on the guitar with friends... this is gonna kick ass.

Well, the drum kit, from what I've seen resembles a drum practice pad and they do have a signifigant "thwack" when hit. You can try padding the sticks, or go to a music store and buy tympani mallets. They're wrapped in a padding to absorb most of the harshness of impact yet still have a good firmness to them (i.e. they're not squishy which might affect each beat registering).

During a conference call to announce its latest music game Rock Band for release on Xbox 360 and PS3, Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos hinted strongly that a Wii-specific version of the title would be coming out in the future. When asked if there was any chance Rock Band would arrive on Wii, Rigopulos said without hesitation, "Absolutely."
"We will, at some time, bring Rock Band to every [important] platform," Rigopulos said. He added that Harmonix would optimize future versions of Rock Band to fit the strengths of the platform. "I think the Wiimote is something that holds enormous promise."
Rock Band comes to Xbox 360 and PS3 this holiday. No Wii version has been officially announced.

Heh... rocked out on vocals at my friend's place last night. I just wish they would have picked better songs... the few I did know I, was great at. Weezer, Guns N Roses, The Ramones, etc. Wave of Mutilation was frickin' torture though...
We had me on vocals, my friend on lead guitar, his older son on secondary guitar, and his younger son on drums. We had a flippin' blast.
I've gotta convince them to download some Metallica next time... heh.

What songs are on this?
list of songs in rock bandHere's a brief breakdown on my thoughts for each instrument.
Vocals - I suck. I'm also a distraction to all of my bandmates because I sing in a goofy falsetto the whole time. If I don't I can't match the pitch at all.
Guitar/Bass - I need to get used to the timing of the rectangles over circles and where hammer ons are. The guitar feels good but I can't keep a combo going for long.
Drums - Again, very fun despite my lacking skill.
The game is tremendous. It's easily the most fun I've ever had playing a video game when I was playing with three friends yesterday. I'm sure I'll be putting a lot of time into this to try and get good at medium on drums and singing. I also need to get better at jumping between the low frets and the solo frets.

Got a chance to play it thanks to my brother. I love the new guitar and the selection of songs. I suck at drumming and even more so at singing. Also, it seems that I have progressed to that skill range in-between Medium and Hard. Medium is too easy and Hard is too hard. -_-;

Played this at a friend's place Saturday night.
Wow. This game was awesome.
I am no good on drums (though I figure if I actually played them more and practiced a bit, I would get the hang of it).
I am *really* no good at mic, which is really a shame because some of the songs I was rocking at really good and got the words down and was doing awesome, but apparently the mic is busy looking for "tones" or "octaves" or other musical bulljive and not "rockingness." So what could have been one of the more fun bits of the game...um...wasn't as fun as it should've been.
Guitar is predictably awesome. Bass is a bit boring, but guitar is still fun. So while Guitar Hero will indeed feel a little like Rock Band Practice, it's not so bad because the guitar is easily the most fun part of Rock Band, and the part I wanted to keep playing more of.

Nov 26 2007, 11:36 AM
Heh... the guitar on Rock Band was infinitely more fun looking than GH's. Watching my friend's kid, you could tell he was having a lot more fun on it. Perhaps it's just the fact that you're all competing, but in different ways... unlike GH, which is pretty much pitting your skill against the guy next to you on the exact same instrument.
My one gripe is that the bastards put the pop-up xbox live announcements right over the lyrics portion of the game. Sure it's not too bad with the songs you know, but singing something you've heard on the radio but never paid attention to (Rolling Stones, Gimme Shelter for example... where I only knew the chorus) was insanely difficult with the notices popping up. (My friend's 360 is full to the rim with his friends list... he gets constant crap popping up)
Next time I'm making him disable it... heh.
Ironicly, I had no problems with vocals... but then again it helps to start off on the rather forgiving Easy setting until you get it down. Cool that they incorporated the tambourine into it... where you have to tap your mic in certain portions. My friends were freaked when I did every long note on Weezer's "Say it Aint So"... heh. That takes a lot of lungpower. "Creep" was fun too.

Ok, what? Part of the reason this game is so fun is that no one is competing. In fact you have to work together to make sure you all get through the song.

So... anyone else suffering from *everything breaking*?
I went down to Seattle (From Van, BC) with my buddy to pick up 2 copies. One for him, one for my friend. They're roomates. Thankfully I went along. We've had one guitar break, one drum pedal go, so it's a good thing we have a spare. Don't know how much longer things'll last

Anyways, the game is rediculously fun. We're gonna stamp out a sheet metal plate to go over our working drum pedal. Should hold things together. Apparently, they won't ship replacement *anything* to Canada, cause it's not exactly out here yet. Ah well.
I just hope those song packs become available up here!
