We thought with the Japanese series and all, 2010 would be a little cliche. We're thinking about trying 2008 next.

Did we know previously that the Unicron prototype was supposed to have a gun accessory?
Might Gaine
Dec 1 2010, 04:47 PM
That particular image showing the gun has made the rounds, like on this site:
http://www.transformersontheshelf.com/UnicronPage.htmlBut this may be the first time we've seen it scanned in at such high resolution.
The gun is actually the transformed version of the stand he balances on, as shown in Unicron's patent:

And I thought it might be the stand, but I couldn't see any hinges or joints on the gun so I concluded the stand part must fold up into the robot mode. Glad I was wrong about that, as the other way is much cooler.

The gimmick used a sound sensor switch (a system that responds to sound, as seen in the current hit Flower Rock) to respond at random with one of six lines voiced by Orson Welles!
“It took them quite a while to get us the tape from America. After some time it arrived, and there was Orson Welles's voice on it! We were blown away!”
1. You are in my power
2. You must obey me
3. I am Unicron
4. Attack planet Earth
5. Nothing can stop Unicron
6. Don't underestimate me
7. You belong to me now
8. Destroy the Matrix
9. Terminate the Autobots
10. Unicron knows all
Those were the 10 lines on the tape, six of which were incorporated into the prototype
This astounds me! If only they had been incorporated some how into some figure. I know the 2010 Unicron doesn't have a soundbox but it would have been a dream come true to do so.

Wow, it must have cost Hasbro quite a lot of money to get those lines from Welles. Wonder why they decided against releasing Unicron, especially since they did release a similar sized toy a year later.
Btw, I seem to recall there are two existing prototypes of Unicron (that we know of) - one was aquired by a TF collector and shown at last year's Botcon, right?
As ugly as the toy is, I would not mind to see Hasbro release it as some special reissue. Though, I still prefer the BW Neo Unicron.

One was shown at BotCon 2009, but I think that was Hasbro's. There are photos of it in the Image Gallery Convention Section.

He kind of has a goofy look like he's hung over. Or maybe the guy taking the photo owns the toys and is just making his friend hold it? It looks to be a hotel room suite, there is kitchen but so close to the bed...
Anyway I decided to blur out the face because I have no idea whom this individual is and if someone really know who this is, they probably own the originals.

http://www.allspark.com/content/view/8375/37/We'll have a few related updates in the next couple weeks: The TV Magazine that uses the early Metroplex design, as well as the Bom Bom pages that show the early Metroplex design in high resolution.

Incidentally, the interview with Hideaki Yoke went spectacularly, and I'm in the process of translating it to post here as a TF Pulp Allspark exclusive!
There are lots of good tidbits in it, so stay tuned!

Man I just love seeing all the old production art. I wish they would archive some more stuff outside of what's within Visual Works and Generations and make it available via an artbook of some kind. I would love to see the 86' movies concept art in particular. Thanks Hydra and Mighty Gaine, I really appreciate the new Pulp installment.

Heh. The text on the Galvatron page describes him as "Megatron's right-hand man".
I knew some of these old Bom Bom pieces came with art depicting Megatron and Galvatron side by side, but this is the first time I've read a blurb describing them as separate people.
Hooray for micro-continuities!

I did a bunch of clean up to take out the grain of the paper on these and to reduce the shadow near the spine. The paper on the original Comic Bom-Bom pages is actually very grainy and the ink is usually not a solid black but rather a gray or blue. Here's an example of the conversion:

I'm pretty sure that TV Magazine explicitly describes him as a separate character upon his introduction. Pretty much all the Scramble City stuff starts off on that note.
And how were we to know that this was actually a Galvatron from an alternate dimension....?! ...According to E-Hobby.
These pages are a lot clearer with the touch-ups. Looking good.
There'll be another interesting microcontinuity when we post the '85 Comic Bom-Boms.

Lovely stuff, Studio Ox never disappoints! Funny that the latest Pulp entry mentions that Bom-Bom's coverage of Transformers ended with the beginning of Headmasters, because from what I remember, Studio Ox's Transformers art, most particularly their work for TV Magazine, dried up around the same time, with most of the work done afterwards seemingly done solely by Ban Magami.
As for the kids' suggestions for Transformers, there's more than a few of the insect-themed entries that are very close to several Beast Wars characters!

Hi, it was a promotional booklet that members of the G1 TF Club in Japan had mailed to them. The "Master Files" were the names of the ones from Masterforce, but I also have ones from 2010, etc. They seem to have been made more or less all through G1.

There were a lot of interesting suggestions for who he might be, but one of the things I wanted to do with this was to expand on ideas that were considered for Japanese Transformers, but ultimately never followed through with.
That's why there are guys like Rapido, who apparently were planned for the Japanese market. I thought it would be fun to look at what they might have been up to just prior to G2.
Same concept with Chip Chase's cameo in chapter 1, as he was planned to appear in Headmasters.

You know, in the time it took you to find the previous thread so you could bitch about it you could have simply bumped the thread and noted that part 4 was out. Which would have reminded me to edit Part 4 into the first post and change the sub-title. Which I just did.
But I guess complaining is more fun than being helpful.

Now, wait a second. Nowhere in my post did I make a complaint. All I did was ask a simple question since the revival of this thread instead of that other one simply confused me. If I wanted to complain, I would have used much a ruder phrasing than the rather neutral one I used. No need to get bent over an honest inquiry.
