Anybody ever create a Praetorian equivalent to one of their CoH peoples?
Devcon
May 3 2012, 06:33 PM
Hell, I've been doing that since City of Villains.
Pinstripe is Zoot-Suit Riot's Pre at double. Fiercely loyal to Cole, he was sent as a scout to Primal Earth to gather as much information as he could and relay it back home to properly invade (you might say the current war is being fought on information he relayed). Secondary objective: kill his green-suited counterpart for foiling one of Tyrant's plans in the past. Zoot is a fire-devices Blaster, Pinstripe is Fire-Traps corrupter.
Queen Sheelieen was (note the past tense there) Free-Fall's. Sent along with Pinstripe to "support his mission", she quickly went rogue and attempted to conquer Primal Earth herself. In truth, the only reason she was sent by Cole is because he knew she would be trouble and thus exiled her from Preatoria - Pinstripe even had orders to kill her should she become too troublesome. Turns out he got beaten to the punch by Araknae, Free-Fall's sister (thus acting as a "cosmic loophole": by killing her, Araknae beat the curse that could only end by "slaying the blood of her father's blood". After all, Queen Sheelieen "was" her "sister", thus fitting for the curse." Free-Fall is a gravity-Empath controller, Queen Sheelieen was a Gravity-Psychic dominator. I retired her to another server should I ever decide to resurrect her.
Later I created Stella Obscura, who is a clone of Queen Sheelieen infused with a Nictus, created by the Council, thus making "Preatorian Star-Fall.
Her story can actually be found in this thread (wow, took me about an hour of digging to find that post O_O ). Star-Fall is a Peacebringer, Stella is an Energy-Dark corrupter.
Since Going Rogue, I made 2 more: Sharpe Shooter (resistance, now Vigilante), double of Operative Sharpe (Soldier of Arachnos) and Fusillade (Loyalist, now Rogue) double of Amazon Grace.

I've made several of my characters, but none has ever stuck thus far.
Mister Atrocity was the twisted duplicate of my hero Mister Astonishing, Twilight Guardsman was the harsher double of Night Raider, Mindcrack the very different outcome to my Armored hero Thoughtforce...
Now the only Praetorian I have is Demon Digger, a Spines/Fire Scrapper who has no Primal Earth Counterpart (Though I did lift his name from the story of Faultline, where the name is dropped in dialogue...so there is technically a connection).

That sucks man.
I might have to revamp sooner than later.
BTW... how many 'pay for' parts did I just use putting this guy toghether?

Helmet should be good....
Armored chest detail is Double Tech-bot chest, Imperial defense shoulders and gloves, Double-jewel for the emblem, and enforcer belt...
Armored pance are Double tech wired with Praet police boots.
(wrote it down after composing him)
OK... did some 'editing' with Dr.Darque to give him a lab-coat... looked over the options and saw quite a few that where listed for individual sale.... but not sure if that included everything.
Ehh... might have to go the origional route and have his first suit be worn and clunky, then get upgraded to Mk-2
Well... until at such time where I can officially buy the peices I need, Unit-0 has received an upgrade (to blaster) and downgrade (to Mk-1).
Here's the clunky 'oldschool' version.

I have enough trouble with altitis without making multiple versions of the same character.

That said, I do have a few linked ones.
Peaceseeker and Sword of Fury (aka TFA Optimus Prime and RiD Scourge) both wear power armor built by the same Crey competitor. But they're on the same server.
I've made two Terra-Ryze (Rize, with or without -, as I transfer and names are taken) with the same basic origin, but it was more a matter of really not liking the build of the first try and making a different set of primary/secondary.
The only "real" alternate shard versions are Kazengar and Artemis A. In one universe, they tried to boost the powersuit by binding an electrical spirit to it...and it came alive on them, turning villain. In the other, they decided to go with precision over power and found an Olympic-class archer who the armor could be built around, giving offensive punch via high tech arrows. Kazengar is on Pinnacle, Artemis A on Virtue. Both are L50s now.

So I finally came up with Demon Digger's Primal counterpart.
Demon Digger is a high school student who stumbled upon a magic skull which housed a enslaved demon. It was cooked up by a desperate mystic in the Hamidon Wars and obviously didn't do him much good. Anyway, not knowing any better now the skull is embedded in his chest and he's got all kinds of wacky powers as a result (Spines/Fire Scrapper). I plan on making him a Vigilante. Ultimately, the kid's got a good heart but the demon's corrupting influence just pushes him to greater and greater extremes. Might have a "In Character" shift around the 30s-40s level where the Demonic energies of the skull are replaced with Holy energy and make him full hero.
Because the villain side has definitely been covered.
The skull's creation is pretty much the same deal, just substitute the Rikti War for Hamidon. Mage who made the artifact gets promptly killed, and the skull goes flying in an explosion, landing on a mortally wounded civilian. With their life energy fading anyway, they're no match for the pure rage and power of a demon and the mortal soul is quickly obliterated while the demon outright possesses the corpse. Marshaling its strength in secret, and being hidden from detection by inhabiting a dead mortal body, the creature has emerged as a Darkness/Fire Dominator and is ready to pursue its own agenda. Given the demon's raw power, not to mention the fact the body it inhabits has continued to decay over the years, the creature has been given the name The Liche, based on the powerful fictional wizards of the same name.

Dr. Darque I can see as the stereotypical cybernetic scientist aligned with the resistance.

The Auction House (Black Market Red side, Wol-somethingorother-worth Trading Center Blue).
So here's some shots of the fellas I've been running with lately (Anybody's guess how long this batch of Alts will last):
There's Thoughtforce of course, but beyond him:
First up, there's my Praetorian
Demon Digger:

And his Primal "Counterpart",
Liche:

(I didn't do a good job in these photos showing off the fact Liche also has a skull buried in its chest just like Demon Digger).
My new
Mister Atrocity (In no way associated with Praetoria or Mister Astonishing):

And finally, I brought my Robo/Traps MM
Broadband over from Pinnacle to Virtue, and in the process had to rename him. So I completely overhauled him and he's now
State Machine:

His bots are named Red, White, Blue, Liberty, Justice, and Freedom

keep in mind: if you stop being a VIP you'll lose access to your inventions. Inventions slotted in powers will stop working and you won't have any effect from them. Re-upping reactivates them, but if you intend only to stay VIP for a month you might want to think twice before making too many of those.
If you got enough leftover points, you can get an invention license when you go back to free, those allow you to craft/use inventions just as if you were VIP but only for 30 days.

Man I hate Nemesis's clanks. Trying to hunt-down Clockworks in Steel Canyon... and naturally there where no baddies to be seen. Just stand still long enough and guess what starts swarming me? UGH!
Ranting aside.... Mourning just leveled up, and I chose 'shadow maul' as his new power... And naturally once I get to test it, it shares a striking resemblence to the Sands of Mu. So now, the question is... do I really want to have two of the same flurry power, even if it is this awesome, in favor of fire or Grenade arrows?

Generally, when a zone event triggers (be it Nemesis, Zombies, Banners or Rikti), the normal wandering mobs run for cover. Does make hunt missions annoying, yeah.
This week they'll be testing out "Freebie Fridays," anyone who logs in on Friday (GMT, so starting Thursday night in America) gets a free thing (one per account, so it'll probably show up in Account Items). They're not saying what the free thing is, but unless part of the testing is 'see if we can avoid giving people stuff they aleady bought,' I'd guess it'll be a consumable (team inspiration, deslotter, etc) rather than a durable item like a costume piece.

It depends on how you find yourself in your combat rotation.
Flurry can be part of a rotation, but nominally it's a filler move to help "wait out" the cooldowns of your primary attacks. Shadow Maul and Sands of Mu are powerhouse moves throughout the entire game and it really is silly not to grab both if it's an option.
Damage aside, it's a cone based -Accuracy attack. Believe me, at higher levels, having enemies who can't hit you is important. Especially never-to-be-sufficiently-damned Sappers.

When you respec, you keep any powers you acquired in-game (like the ones you get from Safeguard missions), but you'll need to reorganize your power trays. Any enhancements get popped out and you can pick where they go or even keep them in inventory if you decide you'd rather sell them or mail them to your other characters.
Karma -KB and Blessing of the Zephyr -KB are IO enhancements that give you knockback resistance, very useful, very very expensive on the market. I usually spend my merit rewards on Karma -KB L10's.
Today's new market item is the Shadow Panther. A little slower than the coyote, a little lower jumping height, but able to go Stealth. Not sure how it compares to the Concealment Pool version of the power, though.

Well, I have 7 days of subscription left. And it's only just now that I'm testing the various archtypes.
First off.... Mastermind. Built myself a biker vodoo queen with her Zombie Minions. It's a little tricky, but I'm digging it. Might just have to puchase Mastermind here when it opens.
Second... gave defender another shot... at the same time I gave Pratoria a shot. Evil Geiger Girl, Aka 'Cheyrnobelle' (name is likely going to get changed here) is a double-rad defender. The Radioactive infection is a HELL of a lot better than that useless forcefeild. Just paff the biggest mofo, land, and let them all swarm me. Main one infects the other two, thus they are all unable to hit me. Leaves me free to nuke their asses without worring much about damage. Seriously, they seldom connect with any hits.
Though now.... I'm wondering if an Evil GG WOULD be a defender and not Rad/Energy like the origional. Even with their orgins being similar, it would really depend on the training she received under 'protective custody'.
While the Rad-Energy's 'shock and awe' styling would seem like totalitarian tactics.... it seems a bit more of a personal touch. Kind of like if GG where Korra, who while being trained in her powers in seclusion, she still remains a free spirit. At the same time, the prospect of Collateral damage would be especially frightening towards GG... but notsomuch to Cheyrnobelle. Being one of Emperor Cole's 'youth guard', the aspect of Collateral Damage would be justified as 'acceptable losses'... but they would be a LOT harder or her to develop her powers.
I dunno. Maybe I'm overthinking it.

You'll stop picking it up, and it'll just stay there. My suggestion would be to unload it at an Auction House if you have access (depending on how many tokens you have if memory serves) to at least get some inf out of it.
Dvandom
May 22 2012, 09:19 AM
Once you lose access to the invention system, you should stop getting salvage drops. You can sell any salvage or recipe to an enhancement store for the list price, but you might want to spend a little time this week checking auction prices for what you have. Some of the common stuff regularly goes for 50K+ because it's used in high-demand recipes and the economy is "Germany in 1931" levels of broken. Any white salvage that goes for more than 250, yellow that goes for more than 1000 or orange that goes for more than 5000 should be put on auction ASAP, but be sure to claim any unsold items before your sub runs out so you can at least get store price on 'em. Don't set the minimum bid above the store price, either, just in case.
Same deal with the yellow and orange recipes. Those have pretty low list prices, so it's usually worthwhile to at least try auctioning them. White ones just go ahead and sell to the store...you can turn a profit on them in the auction house, but not enough to be worth the hassle if you aren't going to be able to let them sit for a long time.
One thing you might try doing is build every character some of the cheapo temporary power weapons (pistol, baseball bat, etc). Invented enhancements will stop working when you drop to Premium, but invented powers should still work. Just do what I call the Steel Canyon Shuffle...back and forth between the auction house and university in the southwest corner. Most of these have multiple versions, be sure to check and see which ones can be made with your existing salvage, or with stuff that's cheap on the auction house (i.e. ignore the recipes that need Luck Charms or Improvised Cybernetics).
