Great... another Wiki to distract me...

BTW... somebody got a facelift shortly after leveling up.

I sure am glad I'm through beating down Clockworks... I regret not choosing the other contact considering what Moritori's genera...

Wow I am just cruising through badges. Just spent the past couple hours in the Park, killing Skulls, Bonedaddies, and the damned along with their Girlfreinds. It WAS easy for me at level 13 to just jump in a swarm of Skulls and go all batman on 'em, but after a while it got tedious so I'd just run in, kill who I wanted, and flee.

BTW... how does the 'paragon rewards' thing work? I gotta get another super-badge?
Waspinator
To get Paragon Rewards tokens, you either need to become a subscriber and/or buy market points with real money.
Dvandom
If you take advantage of the current 99 cent deal to upgrade to VIP for one month, that'll get you a Paragon Rewards token and make you Premium. Even if you don't keep paying afterward, you'll be able to send tells and do a few other things you're currently locked out of.

Knight Errant! I camped off an on for days to finally get that sucker taken down. I wore that badge with pride to this day on my main Blaster back then.

Weird. I can't think of what you might be doing to hold so much aggro from the Clockwork, unless by "fly over" you mean "run through". Usually sticking to the middle of the roads avoids the attention of most enemies, and the few who wander out into the middle of the road tend to be tied to an area and won't follow very far.

Definitely need to try to find a time to duo with one of us.

---Dave

They'd spawned like... 2 feet from the starting position in the middle of everythig. I guess I should have gained some altitutde before taking off.

Either way.... this'll be easier with Moritori. Just Cloak and run.

Yeah... but with my hours and other comittments it's a might hard coordinating this kinda stuff.

Safeguard and Mayhem missions work differently than any other mission. The devs claim it is a mechanic they cannot avoid, but I call bull.

The problem with the "outdoor" mobs in Safeguard and Mayhem missions is that their perception range is maxed out. Even if you have invisibility, stealth, etc. going, they will see you, and they will see you from the maximum distance (think Nemesis Sniper range). To avoid these problems, in Safeguard missions, just fly HIGH above the street straight to the bank. If flying isn't possible, just get through the mobs as fast as you can. MOST should ignore you after taking a shot or two, sometimes they'll turn on an object instead (fire hydrant, etc.).

The "indoor" mobs in Safeguard and Mayhem missions act just like you'd expect. They are fooled by stealth, invisibility, etc.

In Safeguard missions, there shouldn't be any ambushes until you trigger one of the "side missions." In Mayhem missions, there are constant ambushes as you slowly make your way to the bank.

If you were attempting to rob the bank, that's a Mayhem. If you are attempting to apprehend the robbers, that's a Safeguard.
Dvandom
One major newbie mistake on bank missions is to assume that they're pretty much the same on both sides. So you get people on their first Mayhem rushing to the bank...and dying immediately as five Longbow ambushes all trigger.

Safeguard: robbery starts as soon as you get within a certain radius of the bank, but will start anyway eventually even if you stay away. So you have a minute or so to make sure everyone on the team zones, resummon any pets, etc...then rush the bank all at once. If you get in fast enough, you can take out the robber in the entryway, then clear the lobby and you're done. Mop up side missions afterward.

Mayhem: ambushes are triggered by entering particular sections of the map, and they will not give up. So you want to move slowly, destroy stuff to raise the time limit, and deal with ambushes one at a time. You might even want to do side missions before hitting the bank, since they'll add even more time to the clock. If you get the breakout mission, go ahead and kill all the prison doors while you're in there, in case you die. While heroes respawn at a medic station, villains respawn in a cell...and if you've already removed all the doors, so much the better.

So, in short, they're inverted. Safeguard is reactive, go as fast as you can. Mayhem is proactive, take your time and be thorough.

The main problem still being the lack of paypal... and even then finding the Rechargeable credit-card Giftcard that will work to fund it.

I've looked and the one wants you to sign up so they can bill you, lest the minimum recharge remain $200.
Dvandom
Hm. I'd offer to gift you the 99 cents, but they've had problems with people using MMOs to launder stolen credit card info, so it's very hard to pay for someone else's stuff anymore.

---Dave

(The scam usually works like this: find an MMO where you can buy gear with real money, and also gift it to other players. Customer pays you $10 for a $20 item. Use stolen credit card to gift the customer AND ten or twenty random players with the item. Repeat for several customers. Abandon game account that was also started with stolen credit card. Now there's a huge smokescreen to obfuscate who was behind it all.)

Paladin is just one of many Giant Monsters. I recall telling myself I must get that badge. How can you go wrong with a badge of "Knight Errant?"

You'll know it's a Paladin Construct when you see something like this:

That's an OLD screenshot, I think later issues actually have a white hexagon "stand" for Paladin (like a miniature stand), surely an in-joke for the devs and miniatures fans.

Then there's Lusca.

And Kraken, and Jurassik, and Babbage. Then there's the Ghost Ship in Independence Port and Talos Island, which isn't a Giant Monster:

And the Kronos Titan ambush. Lots of things to kill your character in Paragon City. icon-hotrod.gif

Then there's Hamidon. Sitting in the Hive just minding its own business. It may be the only critter in the game that has its own rank (Hamidon).

Naturally... the theiving dinguses ruin it for everyone else. >_<

ugh. How DOES Paypal work anyways? There some kinda fees or contract to go through?

BTW... one thing I'm a tad wary of. Now if you subscribe you get extra peep slots right? If you let it go into default will they... y'know... go away?
Autobot Bubbs
Another pic. I can't wait to get to level 20 and get her that cape.

Anyways... ran 2 bank heists today... first one was at 14 which I lost due to being unable to catch the wench... and the damn clanks again (when your trying to beat someone up and have skulls and clanks wailing on you, it aint good). 2nd time I managed to get her... did get killed, but thankfully I've earned like 5 ressurects and revived, snapped out of it, then rested and finished her off.

Then after about 20 minutes of Troll/Lost stomping, I have my ressurect and some... blaster thing that I don't know what it does.

Also... I earned 25 badges... and it says I've unlocked Gladiator. This a fight system or is this a costume?
Dvandom
Ignore Paypal, use the prepaid credit card to directly buy from the NCSoft store. I'm assured that even small prepaid credit cards will work there (as long as they're bigger than the amount of your purchase).

---Dave
Dvandom
Gladiator badges are part of the PvP arena system. You can bring in NPC allies for some types of fight, and gladiator badges unlock various kinds of ally.

Yeah, I've let my subscription lapse before and that happened. You then have to pick which of your guys stay unlocked when you loose the slots.

How many slots do they let you keep? The regular 2?

Should get you two more slots permanently, since you should have at least one token:

QUOTE(Dvandom @ Nov 13 2011, 02:39 PM) *
Exactly level 20 is awkward in Faultline, though. Jim Temblor (the start of the arc) only talks to L15-19, but Doc Delilah doesn't pick up until L21. If you're still L20, stay in Steel Canyon and do radio missions until you either successfully do the Skyway Safeguard, or get to L21.

If you start a new character, here's my recommendation, to get the most story and learning-mechanics out of it:

Do the Habashy series of missions in Atlas until you run out of them. It'll be three arcs, and should take a solo player to L6 or a duo maybe 7 or 8. Then do Twinshot's first arc, which is an extended tutorial and will help you learn anything you've missed.

Next, go to the Hollows, east exit out of Atlas. Those arcs will get you to L14, you may even hit L14 before you finish them (in which case you can't do Talshak's arc, as he's level-capped).

Now go to Steel Canyon and run Montague's "join the Midnighter Club" arc, he'll have shown up in your contacts automatically when you hit L10. This arc should get you to L15, do radio missions in Steel Canyon and try to get the Skyway Safeguard, so you can score the self-rez power. If you're not L15 yet, you'll be awfully close, after a few radio missions you should be at 15. If he gives you King's Row instead, go ahead and do that, it'll be good practice. Then do another trio of radio missions for Skyway.

By the time you're done here, go to Faultline and talk to Jim Temblor. Run his arc and Penelope Yin's arc. Once Doc Delilah will talk to you, you should do her arc too.

---Dave

Well... Moritori is now at Level 16 after taking care of the Midnighters Arc... I noticed the one midnighter won't talk to you til your lvl 20... any suggestions on which is the best course of plotline for someone meant to be mystical? I've tried sticking to Hellions, Skulls and Thorns... but got sucked into Cogs and Lost/Ritiki... who'd be the best to stick with that genera?

Also... Alt Builds... how do they work?
Dvandom
Unlocking contacts in that range generally requires doing another bank mission. Every time you finish a Safeguard or a Mayhem, succeed or fail, the contact will offer you a choice of contacts. Usually one of them will be of a mystic bent.

The next Big Deal Mystic Path kicks off at L25 in Croatoa, although there's some supernatural stuff available a bit earlier in Striga Isle (a contact will likely send you to talk to Stephanie Peebles at some point, she's the starter for Striga, but her missions are mainly Council and Warriors...later on you get to fight Banished Pantheon).

The designated "hazard zone" for your level range is Faultline, which is dominated by Lost, Clockwork, Arachnos and Vahzilok. No mystic stuff to speak of. Faultline has a good arc to it, though, you might want to take a break from the mystic threats and give it a shot even if you've done it on your other character already. You may find you want to use your "Complete Mission" option on the final mission of Temblor's and Delilah's arcs after you've cleared out all the stuff other than the boss, though. Nocturne and Captain Hair...er, Captain Castillo are both VERY nasty opponents to try to solo.

---Dave
Devcon
I love Castillo as an opponent though, especially in the Mediporter arc. Now THAT's someone with a flair for the dramatic! icon-fire.gif
Autobot Bubbs
Well, Geiger Girl just finished the arc with Twinshot... at level 16. Now I'm lost what to do with HER (as in something other than what Moritori is doing).

And Moritori is starting out in the Faultline after having to kill a few Zombies... just as long as she makes it to level 20 and can get that cape.
Dvandom
Be sure to do the L15-20 range bank missions on both characters, the reward for success is a self-rez power. Otherwise, yeah...the high teens are kinda a doldrum right now. The old Steel and Skyway contacts are kinda repetitive and dull, Faultline is nice but usually not enough on its own to get to L20, and all the other newer content starts at 20.

Problem is Geiger isn't verry proficient with the bank jobs... unlike Mor she get's spotted in the lobby and ganged up on. Same story her last two jobs, KO, then Clanks up the wazoo.
Dvandom
Go to a Hero Corps Analyst and set yourself to -1 Level before taking the bank job. That helps some.

---Dave
Waspinator
Or get some team mates to help you.
Autobot Bubbs
This really shouldn't be THAT hard... considering how she can literally Pwn a Hellion-summoned Demon, with all the range and poisoning and mele (including skullbashing or whatever you call it.)
Dvandom
A City of Heroes player decides to give Champions Online Free 2 Play a shot. Well, free-ish, as he has to drop $12.50 to get the powerset he wants.

---Dave, has decided tonight he's going to figure out the angular size of the Moon in various zones.
Autobot Bubbs
Played the mission with Geiger as suggested.... -0 and such... was incredibly easy. I mean even if it's one level under you their still usually tough... but here I was lucky enough to snipe that bitch before she could get past the freakshow. And then it was a matter of X-ray burst, Proton Barradge, Energy Slap, Skullsplitter, X-ray burst, Irradiate... ect. I didn't defuse the arson bomb though... damn map didn't tell me where it was.

So now I got her running around on the old asian guys missions... taking out ninjas. She's allready up to lvl 18, and due to popping into multiple sewer entrances has earned more than 25 badges.

BTW... how the hell do you put out the Hellion arson? I've tried it repeatedly and haven't been able too since thoes jerks keep lighting it up. I try nuking them but they keep respawning with Damned's.
Dvandom
The Hellion arson is almost impossible to solo, you need multiple heroes working on it. Ice powers help, but even on an Ice Blaster I haven't been able to put it out on my own. However, there's some badges you can get from trying, even if you fail.

*nod* like that 'put out 25 fires and take otu 25 arsonists. I got the arsonists down pat... now I just need to put out the individual fires...

at a rate of about 3 or 4 fires per arson >_<
Autobot Bubbs
Well... after some thought I had decided to get one of thoes cards and try out that ViP for a month thing...

Unfortunately my digestive tract is successfully derailing that.. >_<
Autobot Bubbs
Geiger just ran through temblors arc.... took a few tries but I did KO Nocturne. Just took some Range, Rage, and a lot of ressurect. Not sure how well Mor will fare.

The next arc was enlightening... as now I know to take out the zombies before rescuing the archeologist, since she's got that super-strenght and... stuff.
Dvandom
Fusionette is the poster child for "NPC you have to rescue, who will then attack every enemy in sight". To Fusionette is a verb meaning to do that sort of thing. So, yeah, you need to clear on the way in or Doc Delilah will Fusionette all over the place.

Fortunately, Vahzilok undead are SOOOOO STUPID. In a group of all Cadavers or Abominations (i.e. no humans), you can pick them off from range one at a time and the others will never notice. That dinky 4 damage ranged attack (Tranq Dart, Mutation, etc) is enough to pull one away, then you can kill it safely without getting the attention of the rest. So even the squishiest of characters can generally solo a Vahz-heavy mission by being slow and careful.

Wasn't Fusionette. I saved her ass no sweat in both missions (well... not like the Arbiter didn't have a hand in that). Twas Doc Delilah... which I didn't expect to look like, or act like, a Humanized applejack.

Who jumped in the middle of 4 Abominations.

Man I should really make one of my girls a healer.
Autobot Bubbs
Well, Jumped on as Moritori... and kicked ass. Punched out both Temblor and the girls arc's no sweat. Hell, she took down Nocturne the first try (though I DID have to use my ressurection)

Man I love Assasins's strike... snuck up, clocked her, and feared her... then just pounded and pounded... backing up and healtboosting and wailing until she got me... then I ressed and finished her and her little crony too.

Good times.
Dvandom
Cool.

BTW, the bonus four weapons for Titan Weapons are free this week, and it turns out you don't have to buy Titan Weapons power set to get 'em. You can't actually USE the weapons until you buy the power set, but the bonus weapons will end up costing points later, so you can grab them now in case you later want the power set. Not sure if someone with no points at all can buy 'em or not, tho.

---Dave
Devcon
Not really interested in TW, but I miiiiight take em anyway for the bonus if i ever feel I want to use that AT.

In any case, I hate working 12 hour shifts on update days, especially one with a new chapter of the SSA. Won't be able to try it until Thursday, what with the holiday work schedule and all. icon-screamer.gif
Autobot Bubbs
Moritori just took down Vailzok. She's just a mission or two away from reaching the lvl 20 mark.

Oh... and she might need a bath.

Devcon
Good ol' Vazh plague mission. Used to be this mission was bugged and some people retained the flies and debuff afterward, which made their lives a living hell. Luckily Zoot got cured when he ran it, but Rework (Murry the Evil Skull's Scrapper) got hit with the bug. Ah memories...
Dvandom
Now that Fitness is inherent, I should give the Vahz Plague arc another shot sometime. I just remember how Statesman Fun ™ it was trying to run it at L16 on an Ice/Ice Tank and not only being Tank-slow but also constantly out of endurance and defenseless.

---Dave
Autobot Bubbs
Yeah... thoes Morts and Abominations where tougher to hit than they should have been.
Autobot Bubbs
dammit! I was in the middle of the mission to acheive my cape... and then it was server maintenance time. >_<

Didn't get the alert because, somehow, my chat window was closed >_<

Now I get to run through that ship, killing Homeless mutants all over again. >_<

on the upside... I've made motivationals.

Dvandom
Once in a while, I'll blast a target hard enough they sail through a closed door, and I have to open it before I can finish them off. It was particularly annoying in a fight in the First Ward (Palatine's office) where the door cannot BE opened, so I had to find the one tiny spot where I could shoot through the crack.

FAR more common is blasting someone into a crevice in the caves so that the attackable portion of the figure is inside rock. If it's a kill-all, it's sometimes necessary to call a GM for assistance.

---Dave
Autobot Bubbs
Look who's got a cape now...

BTW... I dunno if I herd right when I leveled up or not, but I herd there where other unlockables at lvl 20... anyone care to elaborate?
Dvandom
When you get a character up to L20, it unlocks access to the epic archetypes (Peacebringer/Warshade on hero side, Arachnos Soldier/Arachnos Widow on villain)...but I don't think free or premium players have access to them regardless.

It used to be you had to get a character to 50 to unlock these, on the grounds that these archetypes are harder to manage, so they wanted you to show you had some experience with the game first. But thanks to power-leveling, there were so many clueless L50s out there I guess they figured it was no longer worth the bother. So now it's L20, so you at least can't make your FIRST character be one of the epics.

---Dave
Devcon
It's possible for Premium accounts to have the Epic ATs, my "Devcon2" account has enough reward tokens to keep them unlocked. I can roll up a Kheld or a Soldier of Arachnos anytime I want on my non-paying account.
Dvandom
Gotcha. But Bubbs is unlikely to reach that tier for a bit, yes?

---Dave
Autobot Bubbs
Just finished with the first step in the 'official' midnighter arc. Have to say, thoes 3 Chaos spirits that came out of nowhere to ambush me where a bigger pain than all the mad max wanabees. Don't know how many ressurects I wasted killing them.

HATE thoes damn ghosts.
