Yeah only thing was that *I* was the one being dog-piled on. "Army of Me" is when you take on 8 of your clones all at once in Leonard's story arc, redside. So if you're a Thug MM with all 6 pets and Gang War, then you're facing 8 Thug MMs. With all of their 6 pets. All capable of calling a gang war on you. So that's 8 NPCs, 48 pets with the possibility of a buttload of pets all attacking you.

I am kind of amused by the idea that a city is attacked by so many monsters that there's an alert system for supernatural activity.
That was a "Quality Of Life" feature added a few years ago. People would literally camp at the three locations for the Paladin in Kings Row for hours awaiting its appearance. Or, you would never notice the Ghost Ship gliding along in Independence Port because the zone is so huge.
I think it works, though. As a hero, you'd be tuned into such things. Think of it as you just happen across it while listening to your scanner.
And, if you don't like it, you can suppress those messages. It is part of the options you can set to not see them.
Of course, now I'm thinking of the days when you could "train" the Ghost Ship and have it follow you around the zone like a pet. You could have it follow you up to the hill in Talos and it would just sit there. Ahh, the days when there were so many "features" in CoH.

You should see Power Paladin's inverted version.
All it does is swap the colors for each item. So, if your "helmet detail 1" has Yellow/Black, your inverted version's helmet detail 1 becomes Black/Yellow.

Definitely visit www.plaync.com and find your way to the game client, then download from there. It completely changed a few months ago. Much to my annoyance. I used to be able to just click an icon and start CoH without all the nagging "Accept" and such. They got wise and force you to use their "console" to launch the game, now. So I've presently got two Masterminds I regularly play as - Broadband and Guardian of Dawn. One is a Robotics/Traps MM and the other is a Ninja/Storm Summoning.
While Broadband is definitely the higher of the two level wise, I find myself disliking him more and more. The Robots attack extremely slow, and his own pulse rifle attacks are obscene in their recharge even with up to date enhancements. Traps also was not the greatest of choices...outside the Forcefield Generator, I never use them or in the case of Triage Beacon, the cooldown is rather obscene.
Meanwhile, Guardian of the Dawn is kicking arse and taking names. Even this early, I was noticing how the Robots were slow to attack. The Ninja, on the other hand, just slam into enemies. Maybe it's a higher base damage or something, but they seem faster on the ball.
I haven't really tinkered much with the others, though I do have a Thugs MM that strikes me a bit as resembling the Robots...the thugs are slow on the trigger. And having previously ran a Soldier MM, they seem swifter on the trigger. I'm not sure about Zombies or Demons.
Still, is it just me? I'm just not liking how Robots handle at all. Too much baby sitting, too much downtime between attacks. And Ninja - who I've always heard are the *weakest* of the MM Powersets - are really seeming to kick butt.

My highest MM is 26, a Robotics/Force done more for concept than any thought towards proper synergy. Similarly, my highest Stalker (and one of my oldest villains) is only at 32. Both ATs are...antisocial, in my experience. When you play in a team, especially a pickup team, most of their strengths are lost unless the other players let you set the pace. MMs become weak Defenders and Stalkers become weak Scrappers if not allowed to work at their own pace. It makes me feel leechy whenever I bring one of them onto a team.

I have a Bots/Traps MM and love it. If you're having issues, just know it gets a lot better after you get two Protector Bots, MUCH better after the Assault Bot, and amazing once you have both upgrade powers. At that point, you have an amazing amount of lasers being fired at once. You should also be using your Trap powers a lot. Three-slot them for recharge, it helps. Acid Mortar Boosts your damage a lot and Poison Trap / Seeker Drones reduce incoming damage a ton. Force Field Generator should also be three-slotted for Defense and always out. One tactic I love for Seeker Drones is that they have a long enough range for the initial summoning that you can stand back and summon them into an enemy group, having them be attacked first before you or your bots. I would suggest getting Aid Other, though. Triage Beacon is ok, but best for stuff like Elite Bosses and Archvillains. Against most other spawns, you don't hold still long enough for it to be very effective.
Rust
Nov 5 2011, 05:38 PM
That...actually helped a lot of my issues out. Thanks Waspinator!
Basically, I was trying to play Broadband like my usual Scrapper/Brute characters but with pets, and failing miserably. I went back and used a Respec, got rid of all the Laser Rifle abilities (I'll likely pick them up again down the road, but right now they're sucking up valuable space) and just slammed out all my Trap abilities, even the ones I never used like Caltrops. I also took Maneuvers. Probably should have taken Aid Other, but eh.
The difference is night and day once I registered the change in play style (Which cost me three trips to the Hospital). Now I'm basically just making sure all the bots stay in the Force Field Generator Bubble and tossing down Caltrops everywhere (Which finks the AI right out). Acid Mortar a doorway, and I'm rarely needing to get Triage Beacon up and running.
I...wow. I'm honestly kind of shocked at how effective I've suddenly become simply by sacrificing my ability to perform the "Alpha Strike" (And even then, I can still help out with the Nemesis Staff).
I also altered Broadband's costume to reflect this new reality. I'm a bit crazy in regards to a character's look in this game, and Broadband being a fully armored hero subconsciously connected me to the front line.
So he went from looking like this:

To looking like this:

(Rocket Boots are still present)
It seems wonky, but I can accept Broadband kind of being the guy in charge now more then I could before. His other costume wasn't really befitting a Mastermind. Not to mention not looking like something a High School kid whipped up in his garage (Yes, I am a nerd. I write complete backstories for all my characters).
Dvandom
Nov 5 2011, 06:07 PM
I should probably get Professor Waxman out of Praetoria (which went pretty dead once I21 hit), I definitely had a better idea how to run him than my previous MMs, especially once I realized that I could attack my pets' targets even if the little "targeting through" bars don't show up over the victim's head. He's demons/pain, and I put what I learned as an Emp/DP Defender to good use in managing his demons.
One thing I expect to have serious issues with on any higher level MM, though, is lack of real estate on the screen and on the keyboard. I use almost the entire keypad on MM binds, and that's where I usually put all my powers that need keys but won't fit in tray 1 (I've tried alt-tray chording and I suck at it). Plus, the pet windows take up space I would otherwise use for trays 4 and 5, trays I pretty much can't do without at higher levels.

I have one of the single-target blasts on my Bots / Traps so you can get away with them, but they really should not be your focus. Most of the damage should be coming from your pets, which should be heavily damage and accuracy slotted. Most of what you yourself should be doing is support. Caltrops in doorways to keep people away, web grenade them in place so your bots can mow them down from range, use poison trap to have them puke and not attack you, etc. I also like Air Superiority, less for damage and more for smacking bosses down so they can't do as much.

I LOVE Irradiation... I just need to run into the center of the bad guys... dose 'em, and let it go to work. Hell, there are some punks out there I just need to dose and they fall over dead in a few steps!

The sewer trial is good XP, but man does it get boring after awhile.
Ok, going into Bots/Traps a bit more in depth....
Robotics:
Pulse Rifle Blast: I would skip this. Burst does more damage per shot and can knockback. Plus, you want your bots.
Battle Drones: Take this or don't bother playing a MM. Probably should put three accuracy and three damage enhancement in here unless you can use IO sets.
Pulse Rifle Burst: Marginally better than Blast. Take if you have room and use it to try to knock people away from you.
Equip Robot: This is another ASAP power. Gives extra attacks to all of your three kinds of robots. Use it and love it. 1 endurance reduction enhancement should be fine.
Photon Grenade: Usually skippable. Take it if you want to help your bots AOE, otherwise skip.
Protector Bots: Another ASAP power. I would go 2 or 3 accuracy, 3 damage, and 1 defense or endurance reduction if you went with 2 accuracy. These guys do damage and help keep you and your other bots alive.
Repair: A decent heal, but the long recharge and bots exclusivity isn't great. I would take Aid Other instead.
Assault Bot: The big guns. This guy ROCKS. I'd go with 2 accuracy, 3 damage, 1 endurance reduction.
Upgrade Robot: And the crown jewel of the set. With both this and Equip, your robots get a LOT more attacks and become a force to reckon with. 1 endurance reduction enhancement should be fine.
Traps:
Web Grenade: You have to take it and it's decent. Stick an accuracy enhancement in there and spam them at people so they can't run up and smack you in the head.
Caltrops: Very useful indoors. Stick them in doorways to block people from getting to you. 1 slow and 1 recharge should be good.
Triage Beacon: Ok, but I like Aid Other better for most things. I would delay taking this until higher levels. Probably go 3 healing and 3 recharge when you do.
Acid Mortar: This is awesome. It will attack stray enemies and draw them do it. And it makes them take about 20% more damage from your attacks. Go with 1 accuracy and 3 recharge.
Force Field Generator: I don't think I need to explain this. 3 defense and you're good.
Poison Trap: This thing massively debuffs enemies and holds them in place vomiting. USE IT. 3 recharge is good.
Seeker Drones: As I said before, the long range these can be summoned at makes them very good as a first "attack" into an enemy group. The "alpha strike", aka first round of attacks by a group, tends to be the most painful so it's nice to let the seekers take it. And they stun and debuff! 1 accuracy and 3 recharge are good.
Trip Mines: These are fun. If your bots and other traps are keeping enemies busy, you can even forget ambush tactics and just drop one of these right on top of the enemy's toes. 1 accuracy, 3 damage, 2 recharge is good.
Detonator: Kind of a weird power. The long recharge makes it limited usefulness, but it IS fun. I'd go 1 accuracy, 3 damage, 2 recharge.
Other pools:
Fitness: Stamina is the important one here. Put three endurance modifications in it, you'll be happy you did.
Flight: A decent choice for travel. Hover isn't as great for in battle though due to needing to be near the ground to use most traps. Air Superority works nicely for smacking bosses on their butts though (1 accuracy enchance is all it needs) and Group Fly gives your robots rocket feet.
Concealment: Stealth is pretty nice for sneaking around and putting traps at people's feet.
Leadership: If you take Maneuvers and Tactics, you'll be very popular on large teams.
Leaping: A decent choice. Nothing particularly good for MMs, though.
Medicine: Aid Other is very nice. 3 healing and 3 recharge in it lets you patch up your robots very well and do some spot healing in groups.
Speed: Hasten is very nice for reducing long recharges. Super Speed synergizes nicely with Stealth. With both on, you are VERY hard to see.
Teleport: Teleport is frankly not my favorite power. It's awkward to use. Teleport Foe can be funny to use to stick enemies into a pile of trip mines, though, and recall friend has some nice team utility if you can make the room.
