Finished the RWZ arc last night with Power Paladin.
The last three missions have EBs/AVs in them. The very last mission simply being "Save The World."
Also did a number of Rikti Mothership raids. Each raid netted about 100 - 125 Vanguard Merits, but also about 100K - 125K debt. The Rikti Magus' are a bit overpowered. They have a footstomp power with a radius of about 80 feet that causes lots of damage and an intolerablly long mez. And the AoE isn't circular, it's spherical. So, hovering doesn't help. During the ship raid, there are easily 4 or 5 of them present. As a result, my blaster spent most of his time either faceplanted or mezzed.
I'm a bit disappointed there is no Vanguard costume piece that covers your back, just like the NPCs have. The "chest detail" only covers the chest and abdomen. I could not find anything that would cover the back, as well.
For some reason, my scrapper got the Unexploded Bombs badge very quickly, while my blaster - who has been in many more zone invasions, still doesn't have it. I also noticed that the progress bar for him didn't appear until this weekend, so I wonder if there was a bug or something else that wasn't counting UXBs for him. The invasion events are fun, and I do hope they continue with some regularity in the future. I know that one mission in the LGTF triggers it, but how often will folks do that TF after 3 months?
I'm liking I10. I like it more than I9, which I still believe was a surrender to the power gamer.

So I suppose I should wait until Stripes is 50 before bringing him to the raids?
I can still bring Zoot and Free-Fall to those though in the mean time.

Well, bring Stripes, just make sure he's SK'd. All the Rikti critters that appear during the raid are level 54.

Two notes:
First, I've noticed that the Magus's stun power only affects you if you're on the ground, or close to it. Hovering way high up, I got hit, but didn't get stunned. Just beware of Mesmerists who will sleep you and cause you to fall.
Second, the Vanguard top is currently bugged, but the next patch should fix it. Anyone who unlocked the chest detail piece will get access to it automatically.
I did the Lady Grey TF this morning. We were on the very last mish when the server reset notice popped up. We had to act fast, we'd been running it since 5 AM or so and were determined to see it through. It was looking rough in the end, but we managed to pull it off with 5 minutes left before the server shut down. Woohoo!

Well, I'm back into COH after a lengthy hiatus. I9 and I10 are all bright and shiny to me, and I had some questions about the new invention system.
My main is now a lvl 35 Tank (Inv/SS). I understand the basics of IO's (never expire, how to create, etc.), but I'm more concerned about when should I slot them. Should I focus on replacing all my lvl 35 SO's with IO's? When I'm ready for lvl 40 enhancements, should I buy lvl 40 SO's, or should I start crafting lvl 40 IO's - or should I just stick with the lvl 35 IO's since they never expire?
Any help would be appreciated...
Skyfire
Aug 6 2007, 10:06 AM
I wish I could answer your questions, but in general, I'm just avoiding the IO thing alltogether.
Be careful with some of the IO sets. While they don't expire, you do lose the "set bonus" perks if you exemplar below the IOs level. One of the things about level 50 IOs that are bad. If you ever exemplar, you lose all those little set bonuses.
Of course, the set bonues are things like +0.75% to endurance recovery, etc. Nothing to be too upset about. It'd be the same as losing a 4th SO endurance recovery slotted in each power.
I10, on the other hand, I'm happy with. Though, I'm already bored with the new content. Go figure. I finished the zone arc with my blaster, and just last night about halfway through with my scrapper, I just gave up on it and went back to Unnai Kemen's arc. I probably just need to get out of the RWZ for a while.
Got all parts to the Vanguard costume last night after another 200K debt, and I'm a bit disappointed with the results. You don't get the full "armored" pants that the Vanguard NPCs have. You just get the patterned bit. Yet again, 200 merits gone to waste.... The boots were even more disappointing. They look like modified tech boots. You can add a Vangard "pad" to them, too, but they still don't look too exciting. Oh, well.

Got to say I love the new invention system. Sold a rare piece of salvage and a rare recipe, made 7 million influence at Wentworth's. Used it to outfit my character in a complete set of lvl 40 IO's. Now I'm off to focus on some sets and prestige...

This may be a dumb question, but what the heck's the difference between a power that Immobilizes a foe and one that Holds a foe?
Skyfire
Aug 22 2007, 09:56 AM
Hold means the held target can't do anything. You can click all the buttons you want and get no effect unless you hit a break-free.
Immobilize means the immobilized target can't move, but can still do other things. The target can still attack and do anything BUT move out of its current location. Immobilize is good if you have AoE attacks and don't want the critters running out of the AoE.
The final one is mezmerized/stunned, which means you can't do anything BUT move around in a drunken stupor.

Thanks for the clarification. I'm checking out the Ancillary Powers for my Tanker and many of the lvl 41 powers seem to offer a choice between immobilizing a target or holding it...

Wow...and here I was looking about for a COV/COH place to go to discuss it. I've been fighting this game for ages, trying not to want to play it (I tried it when it first came out and LOVED IT but no one else I know seems to like it

) but I can't help myself any longer and I'm messing around in it. The desire to control an army of robots as a mad scientist who turned herself into a proton blaster wielding half panther creature is too much. So I ask, is there a really good place to go to for newbs to learn more about the game? The main forums are ok but it's not noob frendly, not really, and last time I really played, COV wasn't even out yet!

The forums can be bit overwhelming, but it's worth it to slog through them when you first start out. However, the best place to start for a "beginner's guide" is the
Player's Guide subforum. Specifically, the almighty
Guide to Guides thread. That thread collects all the various player-created guides into one convenient index. Just find the topic you want, e.g. a powerset guide for robot masterminds, and you get a wealth of info...
Also, the people participating in this thread (the Allspark thread) are extremely helpful if you have any questions...

Wait. You dinged in front of BaB? Sounds like someone was PL'ing to me....
(j/k) I remember back in the day how you'd find the little uninhabited islands in PI covered in lowbies just standing around as a teammate would pound on stuff on the main island. That changed in ... I5? I don't recall, but the 200 foot rule was implimented. Anyway, I recall seeing a lot of screenshots of "the big ding" and it was 4 or 5 characters just standing on one of these little islands. Nothing at all around them, no indication WHAT they were doing EXCEPT just standing there. Am I glad I never PL'd....
Last night, my MA/SR Scrapper hit 50. No screen shot right now, as I forgot to copy it off the laptop.
This is my 4th 50. I have 16 characters. Of all 16, he is the 16th I created. I think he was the most fun because it was a great rush knowing you could run into stuff and usually not get hit. Except Chimera.....
My very first character is still level 18.... He's fun to play, but no one wants to join me over on Freedom because they hate Freedom.

Or the remembrance of the victims of the Outbreak plague, which has been running rampant for four years with no cure in sight.

Double poting, but...
Well, I'm done with my Trick-or-Treating for this year, was fun to knock on doors again and bash on some baddies. As is becoming a yearly tradition, I dress up my ToT characters in halloween costumes of their own... None of those store-bough costumes like a freakshow stunner or a skyraider costume, those are the real deal!

Zooty fought so many zombies his year that he decided to go out as "Thriller" Michael Jackson.

Free-Fall asks "Who you gonna call?" (Fun with 2 temp powers

)

Blurry figures that the Longbow Ballistas can take a lickin' and keep on tickin', so he decided to dress up as one of them (or a close approximation)

Star-Fall went with something more classic. Of course she waited to change IN Pocket D, out of fear of being hunted by badgewhores looking for the Malleus badge.

Me Pinstripe like to not dress down as Bizzaro and am glad Devcon not made Pinstripe not do it!

As far as that second mission goes, I was excited to see it, too. I finally got that elusive badge. I feel sorry for those poor saps *cough*Skysaurus*cough* that had to farm the Contaminated in the tram station in Recluse's Victory.
However, it did take me a LONG time to get the badge. For some reason, I think my recharge times on all my powers was "penalized" for being auto-exemplared to a point that was slower than if I were naturally level 1!
I found the Smoke & Mirrors arc to be way too short. I finished it in 30 minutes solo'd, and that was spending most of the time on the final EB. Haven't tried the other Ouroborus arc yet.

Is this game still going on?
I'm wondering, do you have to be a hero OR a villian, or can you sort of blur the line between the two and be both, like Catwoman for examble.
Glenn
Oct 31 2007, 11:47 AM
they are technically 2 seperate games so you have to choose which set of missions to do. Your personality, back story, etc is all up to you.
However if you choose hero, you get hero centric missions. If you choose villian you get villian centric missions. There are missions that have hero and villian team up. There are also PVP areas where you can fight heroes or villians (the opposite of you). There are also zones where you can fight everyone (no matter what you chose) but those zones are high level.
