This is something that has perplexed me for a while now.

Does anybody recall a line of toys from, I think, the late 80's? They were humanoid figures made from a squidgy, stretchy, gooey, rubber type material which came with plastic snap-on armour pieces? I don't recall the exact styling of the armour, whether it was more fantasy or sci-fi looking and I don't think they were around for very long and they were definitely advertised on TV because I pestered my mum into buying me one after seeing the ad.

Can't for the life of me find any info on them at all. Anyone's memory not as poor as mine?

Hello all, been quite a long time since I've worked on any 3D Transformers stuff so I've blown off the cobwebs and decided to get back into the swing...

First things first: I liked the movie designs, maybe not so much at first but I came round to them. Well, except Megatron, he still looks like a haphazard array of shredded metal to me...
But I couldn't help wondering how they might have looked if a slightly more G1-esque look while maintaining the realistic level of detail that made the movie bots as convincing as they are.

I decided to take a stab at making Prime using his original Freightliner alt mode. I have the main bulk of the cab modeled, I need to add some details and re-work some place-holder parts.

I wanted to use much less cheating than ILM did with the movie bots. Meaning I didn't want any parts impossibly flying from one end of the vehicle to the other end of the robot. There will be some bending scaling of some sections to make the robot mode look more dynamic and balanced.
The transformation itself won't be overly complex; I'll post a sketch of the intended design tomorrow.

Here's a couple of pics of what I have so far:

Hope you enjoy!:)

Works been coming along slowly on this one but I've finally figured out a transformation scheme that lets me keep the whole interior intact. The final product will look a little different from the original takara designs, namely the method of the roof folding up and I dont know how the hood of the bug was supposed to work in those pics. Also the proportions of the head and arms seemed a little ambitious (it's a tight squeeze in there..), but every thing else should wind up pretty close.

(sorry for the stretching... Uploads arn't working for me for some reason.)

and a more detailed look at the foot:

i've been thinking for a while if it would be plausable to have a Prime along the lines of 20th Op, but have it retain a passable cab interior. This is my first attempt at that design. The most obvious changes are the cab doors fliiping down onto the arms. The shoulders themselves would be connected to the back of the vehicle seats which rotate to face each other for the transformation. I have a rough idea about the dashboard becoming primes gun too, but I only thought of that after this drawing. The finer details, such as where the head goes in truck mode I've yet to figure out.

If it all works then I'll get round to making him in 3d one day...
