Wait; George Lucas no longer has absolute control over the films? Is it possible we'll finally get the original original trilogy released on a contemporary home format in quality greater than a LaserDisc?

$4 Billion is a bit cheap, isn't it?

As long as George Lucas isn't writing these sequels, I'm on board.

This is great. This is freakin' GREAT.

Though I don't know what to think of an Episode VII. Everyone from the original trilogy is too old, now. It'll probably star, like, Luke's grandkid or something. And I couldn't give a damn about that.

But still, it means a less iron-grip on the original stuff that Lucas finds "embarrassing" and tries to keep out of the light.

I'd really like to trade up my DVD-R copies of the laserdisk versions of the original trilogy with some finer, official DVDs. I never bought the previous release because, well, they were the exact same thing as my bootlegs.

The original cast isn't too old.

They're too old to play young people. So have them play old people.

But that seems like an awfully short time table. 3 whole years is how long it took between Episode 1 and 2 and 3 and Lucas had known exactly how those stories were going to go since the 70s (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-arcee.gif)

If they actually got Hamil, Fisher, and Ford together again it'd be the first sign of Ragnarok. And really other than Ford, the other two really aren't looking so good these days.

Coming down off my euphoric high of this announcement, I am a bit troubled. Marvel, the Muppets, now Star Wars and Indy...

Microsoft was broken apart for less then that. Disney's basically got a monopoly on childhood now.

But still...I oh so desperately want High Def quality versions of the un-edited trilogy.

Wait, does this mean we might finally get a Monkey Island movie?
