I have to admit I am not really seeing the huge draw... at least not for $100 (let alone import prices some have already paid). But then maybe I just haven't had the opportunity. Can anyone post some pics of this figure with Classics style figures? Maybe you will convince me.

He's the best G1 Optimus Prime figure ever. So whether or not that is a draw for you or not you'll have to decide for yourself.

You'll find some photos of the Japanese version with other Masterpiece and some Classics-styled figures in the above link.

QUOTE(Spectre @ Sep 23 2012, 01:36 PM) *
To be honest I think that putting this guy with Classics style figures is "doing it wrong".

He's not intended to be lost in a sea of Classics figures. He's a "premium figure" meant to be displayed on his own or in a sparse display with a few similar pieces, like Rodimus.

"IMO".

This. This toy is meant to be better than the cheaper figures and beloved me he really is. I don't regret the price I paid for him because it is easily one of my favorite toys. I liked MP figures before but this Optimus made me really want to make a good display of similar figures.
I'm looking forward to the MP line being more like this toy.

Oh I see. I thought I read somewhere about people wanting this for Classics displays. I really don't know... I also don't much go for premium figures (the only MP I have is the first US OP one). So instead could anyone post some pics of this guy with other MPs? Or maybe, I dunno, Alternity or Binaltech/Alternators?

Edit: whoops, Randy'd!

Holy Crap!

I can't believe he was still up and I was actually able to order one.

Also I can't believe I only ordered 1.

It's a long road of addiction recovery ahead. One step at a time.

See, my CHUG display is sluming it right now with an original g2 Laser Rod Prime leading the forces.

I take offense to this. I thank that even after 17 years that toy can hold it's own when put up against toys with integrated lights.

Went ahead and ordered two, to have one as a backup that I'll just sell if I don't need it for anything. It's not a scale I'm super into, but I actually really like most of the changes Hasbro did on this one, and I figure I'll at least partially pay for it by selling off my Hasbro 20th Prime. If I change my mind and don't want it later, these tend to hold their value pretty well.

Huh. When that happened with MP Thundercracker it was so it could come back at a higher price.

MP Thundercracker started out at an unlikely lower price, though, while $99.99 is what we've always known MP Prime to cost.

Man... how come I spend hours on here all the time and the ONE TIME I don't check in... grr. Maybe he'll come back again - when I'm not checking. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-waspy.gif)

Though iirc, TRU packing and shipping practices make HTS look positively delicate. Hopefully they've either gotten better or no one here is a MIP-er.

Glad I prordered mine while it was up there but I'm pissed a friend missed out, since he doesn't have a car so drivin to a local TRU store almost entirely depends on my availability. But then again he has computer access most of the day so hopefully MP Prime goes back up and he gets one.

Well, I waffled and missed the preorder.

I hope this doesn't become my experience with Masterpiece Grimlock all over again.

Disregard my previous post. I think that's a better price than I'll ever see again, so I've placed my preorder. Thank goodness I've got two jobs from now until the end of the Christmas season, at least.

YES! Got my pre-order in. Slow internet connected be damned I fought it the whole way and got my Confirmation E-mail. LOL.

Between this, Thundercracker, and Soundwave, I'm going to have a great X-mas!

Yeah they look really great.

This version is definitely on par with the Japanese one. I have a hard time choosing a favorite (both have things over the other).

Boo.

I wish this restock could have waited a week or two.

I have no more access to a free $100 this morning than yesterday afternoon.

They took him back down. With a limit of 2 instead of 1 per order, hopefully more will be available in the store than Thundercracker.
