Although I'm getting Big-Bad-Battlin' Dudicus, I honestly like the retail versions better than the SDCC version. The brighter colors are much more pleasing to my eyes, and it's a homage to the Energon toy (which I liked).

I'm disappointed with retail Brawl.
That shade is just too much. I'm fine with the others, but not his. |

Onslaught I like SDCC better though I can see how he'd be considered too dour for retail. Brawl and Swindle are the same for me. The difference in saturation isn't enough to make one better. Blastoff are both ok but not quite singing. They need more detail and paint. If they had that I'd probably go the SDCC just for G1 ness. I think both Vortexes are really pretty ugly. Hope Takara comes in with something a bit classier. ZacWilliam, is happy getting the G2 take but would love a SDCC Onslaught and might snag retail Swindle. -------------------- Ever wonder about the speed of Turbofoxes?

I think the retail colors are superior as a team deco, because their color schemes all indirectly tie into each other unlike SDCC's group. Swindle, Vortex, and Blast-Off have the same purple, and Onslaught and Brawl have the same bright green.
It ends up working really well, I can't wait to see how the same effect is realized for the Wreckers. -------------------- QUOTE I'm bad at puns and not much good at anything else! |

I have come around pretty well to the retail combaticons too. The Vortex deco seems to legitimize Energon Stormcloud as a version of him (I still consider E. Blackout to be a version of the movie character), and Blast-off looks really good. I wish Swindle had some more paint on his grille and face, but whatever, I guess I can fix that.

I like SDCC Vortex a little more than his retail counterpart, with Blast Off, Brawl and Swindle being either/or; for Onslaught I definitely prefer the retail release. All told, though, I like the retail releases a lot and think they look great together as a group.

Thanks for showing these, hadn't had a good look at these yet to really get a good idea of what was going on. I think I'll most likely count on picking up the Takara version for my game-accurate Bruticus (fingers crossed), but maybe still pick up a couple of these.
Onslaught: Love the more G1 colors, but miss the FOCing purple highlights. If Takara gets it more right as far as the color and detailing, just get that one. Swindle: I'd like something between the two versions as far as the brightness of the colors, but favoring the extra detail on the SDCC one. Probable skip in favor of Takara again. Vortex: Tempted to pick him up since he's so different, maybe call him Ro-Tor and add a little orange. Blast Off: Very inaccurate to the game, but I like the colors. Might get this one just because. Is that plastic or is it paint on his legs, making them darker than most of the purple on his upper body? I think the SDCC one could have benefited from a similar treatment. Brawl: Boring, sorely lacking in the purple highlights to break up all that kind of too-bright green. The SDCC one is far superior on this one, and was one of the main reasons I initially wanted that set. But yeah, bring on the pictures of what Takara is doing. Hopefully those will surface around the time these start showing up at retail. -------------------- "Wise men profit more from fools than fools from wise men; for the wise men shun the mistakes of fools, but fools do not imitate the successes of the wise." - Cato the Elder "Majority rule only works if you're also considering individual rights. I'm still totally on board for the retain version. I also like how Vortex's alt-mode looks like a really pudgy mosquito. I just wanna pinch his chubby lil' fuselage and see if he makes a Pillsbury Doughboy noise.

In this case, I'd put it looking like Onslaught ahead of it being accurate to the game for the weird color change to the torso for combined mode. Vortex: Use a nice dark, rust red like in the game instead of the faded red on the SDCC toy. The gold is probably adequate, maybe make it slightly more saturated if anything. Swindle: Like Onslaught, SDCC paint apps, but I'd like to see the gold just slightly more saturated or slightly more yellow. It's too close to tan on the SDCC toy. Blast Off: Darker, richer brown, and now that we know he can do it, charcoal gray or black legs. Brawl: Really wouldn't change much from the SDCC toy. I'm really eagerly anticipating this for some reason. Hopefully they don't randomly have much obnoxious, shiny paint, or excessive chrome. Thanks for this. Is it just me or are the retail versions lacking a number of paint apps? Or is that just a result of the different decos?
I'm going to wait for the Takara versions. Onslaught, Vortex and Blast Off i'm fine with, but Swindle and Brawl are just way too bright. |

TakaraTomy Onslaught should definitely be blue. He's blue when combined and only really the chest area that is silver on Bruticus.

The way the torso changes angles when he's Bruticus You could just make Onslaught have a silver color which then become the upper chest of Bruticus.
For example: (IMG:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v403/venom7/onslaught01.jpg) (IMG:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v403/venom7/bruticus03.jpg) This post has been edited by Cheetimus Primal: Sep 22 2012, 11:35 AM -------------------- |

Once upon a time, there was a theory going around (well, okay, joke, but SHUT UP AND LET ME TELL THIS BORING STORY PLS) that the G2 Combaticons' garish decos were supposed to be camouflage for some radioactive section of Cybertron.
I am glad to say the retail FoC Combaticons continue this fine tradition of the Neon Battles. Furthermore, to wit, likewise, henceforth and to be sure, the SDCC decos are so boring I m-zzzzzzz..... This post has been edited by Steadfast: Sep 22 2012, 01:13 PM |

Does retail Swindle have the same problems as SDCC Swindle? That's what I'd like to know more than how the colors compare.

I really like the symmetrical builds. Almost makes me want to get the limbs at retail to go with G2 Brute. I wounder how a bunch on retail Swindles would look on G2 Onslaught?
