So here's an oddity! A friend in Japan was contacted by *his* friend in Japan with the info that Bot Shots have been released there, but only in one store (that he's seen so far). There are six toys out, each with two different packaging variations. Seems like a test market run to see how they'll do at retail there.

Wow, from this angle Bee really looks like Armada Hot Shot.

Oh man, I hope for my wallets sake that they don't do any crazy exclusives or anything.

I have a hard enough time explaining why I have all the American ones already. If they wasn't so cheap, my whole story would have a hole in it.

I'm kinda jealous of the packaging they get.

I'm a little surprised they're not blindpacked. Bunch of toys all the same price and size and engineering with mainly cosmetic differences, seems tailor-made for those capsule machines they love over there.

Additional info!

The line is called BeCool (pun on "vehicle"). Bumblebee is the battle-mask version from the latest Hasbro wave. The price is 714 yen.

Awww. The packaging reminds of the Micro Change 2nd release MC-04 boxes.

Interesting... They're not branded as Transformers, and they don't even have proper names - just descriptions of the alt mode where you'd expect to see names (Literally "Patrol Car", "Yellow Sports Car", and "Military Vehicle").

That, combined with the two packaging variations... It does almost seem like they're trying to gather some data on how best to sell these. Wouldn't it be expensive, though, to put through such a small run? I guess if you didn't change the paint at all, it might not be so hard... But still, seems like a lot of trouble to go through for a mini test-release o_O.

They do have the names, they are just small and in the lower right corner beneath the giant vehicle description text (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-waspy.gif)

And the Transformers logo is on top of the box, too, though it's printed pretty small.

Whoops - wrong on both counts! Well, now I feel like an idiot.

Wish I could make out the military vehicle's name, though I'm sure the botshot fans could tell me... Still send odd that the names and brand are so small, right?

In the US, he was Brawl. I am kinda curious what Takara Tomy called him, since... blue doesn't make a lot of sense for Brawl.

He's "Decepticon Brawl" on the box.

BeCool lives!

A teaser for an upcoming full website shows a different sticker in place of the fist/gun/sword one!

http://www.takaratomy.co.jp/products/becool/

A catalogue shows the original sticker, but eyeballs on windshields and a red Mirage!

http://blog-imgs-45-origin.fc2.com/s/n/a/s...21027193501.jpg

What will actually come out at retail? Who knows!

Red Mirage actually exists in America. Look at the little booklet that comes with recent Bot Shots releases, you'll see him, a white Bumblebee with red and blue stripes and a tan Ratchet.

Eyeballs on windshields looks weird on these, but I guess it's a tried and true kid-friendly look.

Are these still being marketed under the Transformers brand?
