QUOTE
DirecTV has started to offer the services to all of its 20M subscribers while negotiations proceed slowly to resume carriage of the 17 Viacom channels that went dark late Tuesday. DirecTV says it is providing eight Encore premium channels as well as services that had been in extra-pay tiers — including PBS Sprout, The Hub, TV One, and Fuse — as substitutes for Viacom channels such as Nickelodeon, BET, and MTV. (Interestingly, Comcast is a part owner of PBS Sprout and TV One.) The satellite company says that it hopes the replacements will “help offset some of the inconvenience this [dispute] has caused.”

A pretty smart move on their part, offering as many alternatives to the viacoms channels as they can. Plus yeah Hub gets more exposure.

Now if only they'd carry it in HD.

Hey, there's always Dish Network, they do have it in HD. Might be worth consideration, if you can't get it otherwise.

My FlickR folder...

And yes, I was too lazy to come up with a decent TF related forum name, and just *GASP* used my own.

So DirecTV's response to the crisis is offering free channels.

Viacom's response is to pull streaming from the internet.

Not hard to see who the public is going to side with here.

This is great news! I was all set to lose access to the Hub when we switched over from cable. Now I get to save two grand over the next two years and still watch ponies. Sweet!

Good for DirecTV. Good for the Hub.

You're turning into the real-life version of that little devil that hovers over people's shoulders and tells them to do horrible things. I'm not liking this development.

Lesson of the day, when we go on some crazy quest, don't let Fnu Aw hold the Dues Ex Magical Artifact.

Right, that's it. Tomorrow, I'm painting a giant pentagram on the floor, then buying a goat and sacrificing it to Fnu Aw, Lord of All Evil.

Sorry, but The Hub will probably go back to its previous tier when (if?) Viacom's channels return.

The Hub is a channel that you have to pay extra for on DirecTV? I did not know that.
