Seriously, I do no understand this. There was a row of girls in front of us watching Avengers and they were swooning, even saying the word "swoon" out loud, over Loki and clapping when he did something evil.
I've seen this kind of thing throughout fandoms and a ton at anime conventions or the weird girls in love with Starscream and Megatron. Why? Those are the bad guys! Tehy aren't going to love you back, they would sooner kill you! And why root for evil things?! I just... don't get it. --------------------  |

Even actors would rather play the villains than the nice guys because the parts are more fun. Edit note: It also helps that these aren't REAL villains. At least girls in my country fawn and drool for guys like Thor or Captain America. IIRC one of the clients was talking about the Thor movie and something involving soap. and I remember that some years ago, there was a Batman standee with lipstick markings.

Good guys also have the problem of being reactionary. Bad guys have the vision, the plan, the power, the control...until they lose, obviously. Even then, losing it humanizes them.

Adunno... Darth Vader/Anakin did a fair bit of evil for love. Misguided love, and really REALLY bad judgement. But love never the less.
The Mad Hatter in Batman TAS did a fair bit out of love too. Again quite misguided and creepy. I usually find villains more interesting characters, as well... and the evil hot chick in a movie can be a lot more intriguing than her good counterpart.
I get girl's attraction to villains, although I wouldn't have expected Loki to really be the recipient of much of that. At least not based on what I've seen of him in Thor, which I recently re-watched. I won't have seen The Avengers until late tonight, but I would have actually expected Thor and Tony Stark to get more than their fair share of attention from the female audience in this one, actually, even though both are good guys. Both can be a bit rebellious, arrogant and domineering, seemingly traits that are part of the attraction to the "bad boy" type. But they don't exactly have grand visions. Thor is just a god alien and Tony, while a stud and wanting to rid the world of terrorists using his own technology is a game plan, its not as ambitious as ruling the universe.
