Yeah, Animated handled the Dinobots horribly which was my biggest complaint about the series. They took what is arguably the most iconic Autobot subgroup and made them into low-rent reoccurring villains who hardly got any screen time. Way to miss the point, guys.

The whole idea that no kids would want more than one dinosaur transformer is ridiculous. I... don't believe that was ever a major talking point in this thread. So not releasing all five dinobots because they allegedly won't sell means people think kids really do want more than one dinosaur? Let's not be obtuse here. The point was is that they might not want five dinosaurs strongly enough to overcome their parents' unwillingness and confusion regarding the purchase. It's been suggested that Dinobots wouldn't sell well. I have a question. When was the last time the Dinobots were in a show and they didn't sell well? When has that happened? Animated. Swoops and Snarls were plentiful even well after the line was officially finished. Then again, pretty much every Animated toy was plentiful well after the line was officially finished. I still find them at TRU once in a while. -------------------- You're turning into the real-life version of that little devil that hovers over people's shoulders and tells them to do horrible things. I'm not liking this development. Lesson of the day, when we go on some crazy quest, don't let Fnu Aw hold the Dues Ex Magical Artifact. Right, that's it. Tomorrow, I'm painting a giant pentagram on the floor, then buying a goat and sacrificing it to Fnu Aw, Lord of All Evil. |

The point was is that they might not want five dinosaurs strongly enough to overcome their parents' unwillingness and confusion regarding the purchase. It's not even so much about the kids and the parents, as it's more about Hasbro having a strong enough case to appeal to the retailers, and their strict regulations gleaned from decades of market research and hand-tailoring their shopping environments for maximum profit. Quite frankly, it all sounds like wishy-washy conjecture to me, let alone a global mega-corporation. |

No, they kind of were. They were created because Spike Witwicky saw some dinosaur bones and so Wheeljack made some new dinosaur Autobots randomly and decided these giant war machines should be really dumb because real dinosaurs are dumb.
And so Wheeljack turns them on and the first thing they do is make a line to Teletraan I and destroy it. So they lock them up in the closet because they're too dumb and powerful to live. THE END. The sequel: Later, they're so stupid that Megatron can get them to work for the Decepticons and hate the Autobots after maybe two whole sentences. The other sequel: They're so dumb and hard to deal with the Autobots try to abandon them on an island. -------------------- |

"So what exactly do you do on this message board?"
"Ah, y'know, get together with other Transformers fans and talk about stuff." "What's thread are you looking at now?" "Oh, it's about which Transformers cartoon sucked more." "Interesting. Which one did suck more?" "Um...all of them? It's still unclear." -------------------- This week at Comic Critics!: Whatever happened to the critic of tomorrow?

My favorite is still Shockwave's burden.

The other sequel: They're so dumb and hard to deal with the Autobots try to abandon them on an island. If by "dumb" you mean "dangerous and antisocial." Sure. Also to be fair, it's hard to blame Grimlock for turning on Prime after Prime's treatment of him in their debut. They've integrated pretty well by the time of Ultimate Doom, so it's kind of weird the writers felt the need to revisit that aspect of their character arc in Season 2. The Dinobots were, in general, no stupider than any other Autobot, despite their grammatically challenged vernacular. And in light of the plot of A Prime Problem I think that, barring Sludge who was actually confirmed to be dumb as a post by Soundwave, they're actually among the more intelligent members of the Season 1 cast. Moreover, at least they have the capacity to learn from their mistakes, unlike the Animated Dinobots who never learn anything except how to be humiliatingly defeated offscreen to push an exclusive combiner that was so fugly it couldn't hack it as a normal Voyager release. Besides, even if they were actually dumb, well, at least they're not dumb AND bungholes like the Aerialbots. -------------------- |

Comic dinobots weren't. Cartoon dinobots decided that the people they shouldn't kill were the ones with the same face as on their own chests. And half the time they didn't even get THAT right.
But they were far from useless. I thought they did particularly well in Arise, Atlantis, Arise! |
