Intensely disappointed by deco choices on Spinister and Kickoff. Also, the Vortex head doesn't sell me on Spinister at all.

I like the color schemes but yes, its not really Spinister to me. I am glad they used the Vortex head though since it was never released in America but I don't really care for the mold. I thought Tomahawk looked awesome in pics until I actually got him then I was pretty meh towards him. I am pleased that Spinister got a second toy after 24 years (if you don't count the Legends Blackout repaint).

Kick-Off is good in all ways.

Shame that Kickoff and Spinister aren't seeing mass release.

Interesting that Hasbro does have access to the third Junkion head.

They're not the kind of characters Hasbro would actually do right now. They've surprised us in the past but that was then.

I doubt we will see any surprise left-field characters this weekend.

People keep saying $100 souvenirs. Are they really that much? If so that would seem to be quite an increase, I want to say the smaller sets at BC2010 were like $60 each.

I do too but that's entirely bassed on pessimism.

What do you think has changed that the Obscure Train of the last few half dozen years has suddenly left the station?

-ZacWilliam, I don't know we'll see any this weekend but I'd be surprised if their weren't a few obscure nods in the 2013 40+

I don't understand how a deluxe/voyager set is cheaper than a deluxe/deluxe set.

Predicted demand plus head remolds.

-ZacWilliam, my guess at least.

Yeah I'm guessing because of Kick-Off's new head.

Prime Cyberverse Flamewar and Marlboro Wheeljack are the only two recent left-field surprise homages. I'd say Prime Dead End too if he were actually a homage to anyone.

Otherwise they have been playing safe and predictable.

I don't think I agree. Largely based on your definition of "lately". The last wave of Generation would still be included on the far end of that for me. As would Cyberverse Guzzle and the like. Prime hasn't had enough figures yet to register obscure appearences, since it hasn't even gotten through it's show characters and we're allready getting Flame War, MWJ. and an Armada/Energon homage Hot Shot. There's just not been enough Prime product to derive a ruling on it's homage "breadth" yet. And with the promised return of Generations, whose last interation was full of obscure homage, well it could certainly go either way but I'd say signs look better for this sort of thing, rather than worse.

-ZacWilliam, was underwhelemed by last year's Botcon reveals and so is being cautious in his estimation of what we might see, but just cause we don't see it at the con doesn't mean it isn't coming.

I realize the Con is happening right now, but maybe when it's over, could anyone offer a comparison photo of SG Junkheap with his "correct" eyes/head, compared to the Generations figure?

Man those are gorgeous. SG Prime and Spinster both stand out as one's I'd want, and Kick-off is just all kinds of love. The junkions and octopucnh, meh to the nth degree.

The others aren't that big on my wants list.

Kick-Off looks amazing. Spinister looks like the best they could do. He really needed a new head, but it's not bad. Octopunch should be more exciting, really, but I still like him. The head works as an update. I really like the Junkions, and I appreciate the Scrapheap head since I didn't get him from Japan.

I gotta point out the obvious in saying that Hasbro's relatively new pattern of making two heads for each figure is really paying off for Botcon exclusives. It's still amazing to me how much difference it makes just having all those new heads (new/previously unused/foreign only/etc). I'm glad my friend at the show is getting me sets.

Huh.
I just now realized that his name is Spinister, as in spin + sinister, rather than Spinster, like an old, unmarried woman. And I've been a following TFs since day one. To be fair, I was kind of out of the toy buying phase by the time the double targetmasters showed up.
I guess it makes more sense, but now Spinister just sounds wrong in my head. I guess he'll be Spinster on my shelf (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-ball.gif)

Shame his bot mode colors are upside-down, but I guess that comes with using a mold with the cockpit on the chest instead of the feet.
Still want him. Might try to find a better head for him though.

Want Octopunch and Kick-off, too.
The Junkions are nice, but I don't collect SG. If they had unique paint decos, like some customs I've seen, it might be worth it for the coolness factor, but as it is, pass.
