Just poked my head into his site and yeah, I only noticed two people with a negative opinion of this video. Others were gushing about how hard they were laughing and how it was the best review yet. *sigh* Whatever. Just goes to show I won't be posting over there. I'll go ahead and say I didn't mind the review. I gave him a small positive comment and said something about him posting it the same week as Botcon. Really until you guys started going off on how he like the Bay film I didn't mind the small amount of Bay bashing he did here. Either way I didn't mind the review. As a casual fan as he stated before I can see him having a slightly more positive spin on G1 than some of us have who have nitpicked the series till the cons come home. I'd actually would have preferred him doing this as himself instead of the costume really but it was fun to see him try. This wasn't one of Doug's best efforts by far but I'm not expecting top quality when it comes to any of the Nostalgia Critics reviews. -------------------- |

The biggest issue I have with the review is that it wasn't funny. I watch this guy for the laughs. I expect him to tear things apart, even things i love. This review wasn't funny and was quite boring. That runs counter to what I expect from him so yeah, I'm gonna voice a very negative opinion. I want him to bash it because that's where his brand of funny is to be found.

It really bothers be when Doug dose this and this at least the 3rd time, Maku (SP), Chuck Norris and now this. I watch Doug and The Chick because they will rip in to things that I love as a kid and get me to laugh at 6 years old me.

I did like the bit with Soundwave detailing his dreams and plans; mainly because that and the cutting back and forth to Megatron listening just reminded me of Space Ghost...

That said, it IS strange how through 3 seasons, they never managed to give Soundwave ANY characterisation. He's a computerized Vulcan. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-op.gif) from the many animation error-produced seekers (what is the fan-name of the light purple guy?) Eh? Those weren't errors. The generic seekers were intentionally there, as you can see in the script. The lack of their appearance on Earth in part 1 (they were even supposed to be seen getting out of the Ark) and after part 3, those are certainly errors. And miscolored generic seeker that spotted Wheeljack and Bumblebee. I meant them being on Earth, not on Cybertron. Even as a kid I always wondered about that... and how Reflector could sometimes have 5 or more components. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-fire.gif) As for Soundwave, sadly all he did was being Megatron's yes-man. And Shockwave was the same, sans the cool voice. Easily the best voice out of all of Corey Burton's characters. I love it! When you get older and realize how much Frank Welker did, he gets easy to pick out on Transformers. Corey Burton, not so much!

I met a LOT of people (not TF fans) who told me they always thought Shockwave sounded... totally gay. I would have preferred if Burton used his Brainiac voice for Shockwave. I later learned he was going for a David Warner impression, but IMHO he only got that right for Animated Shockwave. -------------------- |

For some reason, he chose to mimic Warner's being-tortured/in-pain voice. |

All I know is Corey Burton did the best Megatron Voice. Indeed. IMHO he's the best Megatron voice. I was never that fond of Welker, and David Kaye is suited for a totally different, mastermind Megatron that BW Megs is. I had hoped Hasbro would use him on Prime as well, but nostalgia factor won. -------------------- |

Yeah. This was bad. And I LIKE TNC. He and TAVN are the only internet celebrities I find humorous. Couldn't make it past the introduction.
The decision to do the review "in-character" was the deatblow before all the praising of G1 and bashing of Bay. The terrible Peter Cullen impression resurrected the video just so it could die a second time. At least it isn't Linkara. Linkara is like watching Dr. Laurence Erhardt without a Clayton Forrester to reel in his obnoxiousness. -------------------- Exterminate All Rational Thought

I've noticed a distinct lack of quality from all the TGWTG reviewers as of late. I worry if as a group they aren't getting more focused on attending conventions and riding the wave of their success rather then maintain the quality of their output. I've noticed a lot more "From Convention" videos from Doug of late. You'd think they'd make more of an effort with the way their ad revenue money isn't as constant as it once was. -------------------- |
