For some reason I really identify Inferno and Grapple with the collar things they had on the G1 show and G1 molds. I realize that was merely an aspect of the mold they decided to carry over but for me it's as integral to their character (or at least the representation) as say the door wings on Prowl/Bluestreak/Smokescreen or the hood on Huffer.
The updated Universe molds are wonderful and all but because they lack them; having instead regular fully movable heads they've always felt "off" to me. Same thing with Botcon Huffer honestly but that was a repaint so I can't really complain. I know having their heads in something like that would've probably *massively* impeded their articulation but I still hope/wish someone like Venksta would make an aftermarket version I could use to "fix" mine. Anybody feel the same way? -------------------- ![]() |

Not really. It honestly looks kind of dumb.

I do miss it quite a bit -- the unconventional overall head+collar shape is certainly key to their look, for me, very much like Gears and Huffer -- but not exactly enough to shell out that kind of dough for it.

if it had a way to connect the hook on grapple ... and came with head wings for inferno Well the ideal Inferno one would obviously come with the wings sticking out like on the show. ...connecting the hook on Grapple would be pretty awesome. You could probably use the same basic shape for each but have a connection point on the back of Grapple's for the hook and places on the side of Inferno's for the wings. I could go for it, Blud. I hadn't really thought about it before you mentioned it, but I could. I had Inferno and my brother had Grapple as kids and I've always thought that mold was one of the best.

I agree. I absolutely wouldn't want some aftermarket thing, though; the point of the thing was that it was an integral part of the transformation, so having an extra cosmetic piece would just feel wrong.

Inferno has never looked like Inferno to me. Whether it's because of the missing neckbrace, or the completely different body style, I'm not sure. (Actually, it's probably a bit of both.) But whatever the reason, it makes me want a new Inferno as much as some other fans want a new Ironhide.
The Universe toy just completely fails to capture the character, in my opinion. And, unfortunately, the same goes for any G1 Inferno repaints out of the Universe mold (Grapple, Artfire, any would-be Haulers). -------------------- |

Hmm, would a ladder for Inferno have helped? Just wondering how much of the essential Inferno-ness is lacking in the Universe toy.

Hmm, would a ladder for Inferno have helped? Just wondering how much of the essential Inferno-ness is lacking in the Universe toy. If it would change the overall design of the to make the vehicle mode look longer and the robot mode look "taller", maybe. But really ladder or pump truck doesn't really matter to me. It's just that G1 Inferno was one of the first toys to have somewhat human proportions compared to the Autobots around him. Which always made that aspect of his toy stand out in my mind. So the big chunky no-waist Universe toy was a disappointment since we first saw images of it. This post has been edited by NightViper: Apr 19 2012, 08:16 AM -------------------- |

Me neither. I mean, yeah, the G1 toys had it because the heads were inside the (non-rotateable) turrets, but I can understand how a different transformation makes them redundant.
It is important for Hot Spot/Defensor, though. I always liked how he was the only Gestalt at the time to have his gestalt head integrated into his alt mode in this way. -------------------- |

yes C16 it is - but if we're willing to modify our toys to the point of 'wishing for 3rd party add ons' - popping off a mushroom clip, isn't really crossing any new ground (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-arcee.gif)

I find Universe Inferno's proportions match the cartoon pretty well. He's just a box with legs.

I'm pretty sure that's what the toy was too.

Naw, the toy's robot mode was indeed more tall-looking than fat-looking. He still had a big gut, regardless, it was just a big gut that looked tinier since it was a smaller portion of his tall torso. ...a tall torso which was possible because Inferno transformed into the worst-ever fire truck toy. Oy.

And when that same transformation was done decades later it just made Optimus look fat. Funny that.
