Wheeljacks's staying!
Awesome. The situation reminds me of Tigatron. Hopefully we'll see him again soon. -------------------- Signature? I don't need no stinking signature.

Well, it's a great episode...if you like filler that advances the plot in a way that could be accomplished within one of those segments before the opening credits.
Well, we also learned that Optimus is heroic. -------------------- |

Wheeljacks's staying! Awesome. The situation reminds me of Tigatron. Hopefully we'll see him again soon. I think a better correlation was Depth Charge. He too arrived on Earth to take revenge on a single Con and chafed under Optimus' command, and left after his first episode to do his own thing outside the main group of good guys. This episode was basically "Deep Metal." This post has been edited by Code of Walky: Mar 24 2012, 08:09 PM -------------------- |

So Seaspray was a Wrecker huh? That's kind of surprising.
Impactor being dead already isn't though.(First tv reference to him and a couple of the other guys mentioned?) This post has been edited by Silent_Magnus: Mar 24 2012, 08:12 PM -------------------- |

Impactor, Rotorstorm, Pyro, and Roadbuster. Posthumously. Though it's awesome that LSOTW had such an impact. ... pun not intended.

I don't mind the character concept behind Wheeljack, my issue (and an increasingly common issue it seems) is the show creators pushed him as a homage concept, like Energon Downshift, but at some level, Hasbro is still trying to push this "aligned continuity" that is increasingly not flowing together.
There was no mention of his mechanical skills, despite those skills should have made it possible to defuse the explosives. So is Wheeljack a mechanic or a bad ass warrior? I'm not sure even Hasbro is entirely sure (same issue has come up with Breakdown's varied characterization between comics and cartoon). I have no issues with the character himself (and the overall episode wasn't bad), I just can't help but wonder if Hasbro needs to ditch the "one continuity" crap and let the different media representations BE different continuities and stories. Not like the people who will be playing Fall of Cybertron will give a flip that it doesn't correspond to what the Prime cartoon is doing anyway... Sorry to be off topic, but this episode really brought that to the forefront of my mind. |

Very true, I wonder if we'll keep a rivalry between Jackie and Dreadwing, or if Dreadwing will really just focus on being a loyal soldier. It was interesting to me that the Wreckers were pretty autonomous, but not surprising. It makes sense though, especially since Prime and the rest left without them if Exiles happened roughly the same in the cartoon continuity. I didn't remember the full list, but I know I heard at least Pyro and Impactor in there amongst the scrapped. I'll be interested in seeing who else they said. Edit: Ah, Rotorstorm and Roadbuster. Rotorstorm can't catch a break. This post has been edited by crazyjw18: Mar 24 2012, 08:20 PM -------------------- Signature? I don't need no stinking signature.

Heh, true enough: I'm just glad I've made my peace with it that I'm not one of them any more. I may still have issues with the show in general, but you can't ignore good stuff when it's served up on a platter for you. Impactor, Rotorstorm, Pyro, and Roadbuster. Posthumously. Though it's awesome that LSOTW had such an impact. ... pun not intended. Not too surprising after we got a clearly LSotW-inspired Guzzle toy a mere year or so after the comic came out. Me, I'm happy for it. It took them long enough, but we're finally getting some real decent universe-building. I hope they keep it up! -------------------- Being part of any fandom is fundamentally embarassing.

G1 Wheeljack was a pretty good expert at exploding things.
Admittedly not by design. -------------------- |

Hasn't Hasbro made it abundantly clear by now that the aligned continuity is more of a 'template' from which all future non-movie media and fiction will follow anyway?

Yeah, I don't think Hasbro has ever said that everything now is all the same continuity as fans understand "one continuity." They've very pointedly said there's wiggle room for interpretation within different areas of Aligned, and this choice is very on purpose.

I really enjoyed the episode.
Megatron's hilariously understated response to "never seeing Dreadwing again" was hilarious. And Wrecker callouts! A nice symmetry between Wheeljack and Dreadwing learning what it meant to serve under both their respective leaders as well. I wish Wheeljack were more mechanically inclined but there's always room for him to discover that trait while he's out exploring and maybe to "make up" for not being able to defuse THIS bomb. All in all, the show is really hitting its stride now. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-ironhide.gif) This post has been edited by MrBlud: Mar 24 2012, 08:59 PM -------------------- ![]() |

Two posts in! At least it wasn't Database this time. ...yet. Don't worry the usual members of the whiny brigade will be in this thread in full force soon enough to ruin it. You'll have to look elsewhere. I've got no complaints. It wasn't jaw droppingly mind blowing (like Scrapheap, Rock Bottom or Partners) but it was solid and fun. Wheeljack adds a badly needed dynamic to the Autobots (One who doesn't bow to Optimus's every whim) and while he might not yet be a regular, who should be appearing much for frequently. Dreadwing too is interesting. It's been a good while since we had a good honor-bound Decepticon in show fiction. I still wish they had given him at least a new head but with the split-spark thing going, it makes sense enough. The writer of this episode must have been a huge Last Stand of the Wreckers fan. Between the namedrops (IMPACTOR! PYRO! ROTORSTORM! HECK YAH!) and the SPlit-Spark methodology (almost identical to Twin Twists and Top Spins in Last Stand), I'm glad to see them embracing it. They even gave Optimus some character. He wasn't quite as boring, but by far my favorite bit in the whole episode was him crammed into the Jackhammer, tapping his hands nervously on his knees. He definitely needs more little bits like that. 8/10 solid. One I'm looking forward to rewatching! -edit- Also, Dreadwing has his own unique Con symbol! It's like the Autobot's Elite Guard, but with the Con emblem in place of the bots. This post has been edited by Master Fwiffo: Mar 24 2012, 09:13 PM -------------------- |

I was hoping Dreadwing would use a sword. Since that what his toy comes with, or at least that's what it had last we saw it. Which, admittedly, was awhile ago.
