I'm thinking of picking up one or the other, but would like to know which is the better toy. No need to mention the alt-modes of either since I'm mostly concerned with the robot modes and know how half-arsed both are in that department vs. accuracy.

Assuming that the Ultimate Battle mold is the United Optimus you're thinking of, I happen to like the Robot Masters figure better, which probably puts me in the minority. I think the proportions on Robot Masters Convoy came out better, I like the head sculpt better, and I think the cleaner sculpt on the robot mode looks better.
That said, Robot Masters Convoy is a pretty mediocre toy qua toy. (OTOH, I really wasn't impressed with Ultimate Battle Optimus.) IMHO, YMMV, etc. This post has been edited by Canthros: Feb 29 2012, 09:44 PM -------------------- Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over.

The Robot Masters Optimus certainly looks much better in robot mode, and has a nice head sculpt. But, it's a very light-feeling toy, and mine snapped right in half at the waist swivel after maybe four transformations. I've never owned the Deluxe toy, but always thought it looked pretty terrible in both modes.
For my money, the best G1 Optimus Prime toy is the Classics Voyager mold. I've got five versions of it! This post has been edited by ChessPieceFace: Feb 29 2012, 09:57 PM |

Deluxe Prime. The Robot Masters one is just poor all around, while the Deluxe just has a poor vehicle mode.

Yeah the Voyager and United (not RtS) Laser Optimus are better toys than either of these. While I don't think neither Deluxe sized G1 Optimus figures are all that great, I definitely think the United/Classics/Universe Deluxe Optimus is better than the Robot Masters version. The RM version has a strange head (not that the United/Classics/Universe one doesn't, just not as strange). Plus it seems a bit fragile and there isn't much it can do. Though the action feature (which can be disabled) may run the United/Classics/Universe one for you.

Honestly, they both suck ass. Ugly in both modes that don't even attempt to really hide anything in vehicle mode. If you HAD to go with either of them, United looks the least like ass. At least in Robot mode, and had a pretty cool gun.
I prefer Classics/Henkei Optimus Prime myself, as he actually looks good in both modes. -------------------- ***Signature removed by Staff due to size restrictions. Please keep to 500X200 images and text included.***

The Prime only looks bad in vehicle mode. The robot mode, aside from the strange head is totally fine, more than decent.

RM Prime is super cool. He's too small for any kind of Classics collection, but on his own (or with Robot Masters...) he's pretty nice, I think. The truck mode has even grown on me. I really dig his head, though.

I don't understand why everyone loves Classics Prime so much. He's got big flappy arm wings and a huge kibbly bumper butt. God help you if you lose his shield because his vehicle mode will be ruined.

Which still puts him miles a ahead of any other modern G1 Prime that isn't a masterpiece. As RM and United primes alt modes come "pre-ruined" not bothering to look like anything other then Prime folded into an L shape. Bumper never bothered me as it doesn't restrict any movement and And many TFs tend to not look good from behind. I prefer the RM version since he's kind of a Basic/Scout G1 Prime with good articulation, which I find to be neat. And he doesn't look like you just busted in on him in the shower like Deluxe Classics Prime does. Those eyes...
Otherwise, it's kind of a matter of opinion. Deluxe Prime is probably cheaper right now, though. -------------------- Fall of Cybertron will blow your mind. That is all.

Classics Prime looks fine without his rifle/air dam. He's solid, and though he has some kibble, it doesn't hinder much and makes the truck look like an actual truck.
I personally like RM Prime over the spinny wide eyed Prime due to the better looking head and general body. -------------------- Signature? I don't need no stinking signature.

If you are simply looking for a G1 Optimus action figure, the Revoltech toy would be my reccomendation. He suffers from "Pat Lee Head", but he can do all your favorite street fighter poses.
If you want a transforming one, I would go for United Prime, he has better articulation and balance then the HM figure, and the HM figure is very thin and prone to breakeage. This post has been edited by Llwynoh: Mar 1 2012, 12:16 AM |

yeah the best thing about the classics one is that you can throw him away and give his gun to anybody else...
if you could just buy the gun, I'd go that route (IMG:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v425/Destrond69/DSC01120.jpg) This post has been edited by Destron D-69: Mar 1 2012, 12:42 AM -------------------- ![]() |

The Robot Master one is far nicer, especially if you're prioritising robot mode.

Neither are great toys.
It depends on what you want. RM Prime has the axe accessory, if that matters. Personally, I actually like the 2 pack Prime better. |
