To begin, here's a snippit of my initial reaction to the first ending:
That was... not an ending. No way of asking questions, no backstory, just three vague choices with a "Oh yeah, by the way the Mass Relays all get destroyed because." Thankfully, the Extended Cut solves all the issues and problems I initially had. Even though I could wish for something more then a 11th Hour Exposition Dump, the information helped flesh out the ending and give new life to the three choices. I ended up choosing Green again ("SPAAAAAAAAAACE MAGIC!"). I also said before I ever beat the game that I didn't know how this series could have a "Good" ending. The new Green Ending definitely fits that description and I'm rather let down by it. Not by the "actually is coherent" ending, but more by how chummy rainbows, sunshine, kittens, puppy dogs the ending is. For a franchise that builds its narrative around racial conflict, the idea that suddenly everyone gathers around the fire and sings Kumbaya is really hard for me to swallow. Probably going to go back and do the Blue Ending (Because I am *not* killing the Geth and EDI) - hopefully there's some tension left in the galaxy after that one. But overall I am extremely pleased at the Extended Cut and the new information that we have. ("Our creators were the first true Reaper - they objected." <- Loved that line!) -------------------- Nobody knows what we're for only what we're against when we judge the wounded
What if we put down our signs crossed over the lines and loved like You did? |

Well I used to be Green but now I'm all for the control ending. No Geth genocide and EDI saved, cycle ended, Reaper manpower to help rebuild and preserve memories of past civilizations, there is hope for a free and diverse future instead of forcing transhumanization on everybody by way of synthesis or being Reaped.
Or at least I would be if I felt motivated to download origin and the game again instead of just watching the new endings on youtube (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-waspy.gif) |

Well its not perfect, but it certainly is a hell of a lot better than the original ending was. Scenes to explain why some stuff happened, mass relays not destroyed and blowing up galaxies, actually being able to ask the Starchild about stuff. Being able to reject even if it means losing the war. The ending was just a lot better fleshed out and dealt with better than it originally was.
I liked in the synthetic one we see a Quarian without their mask, although Tali is still wearing hers on the ship in a later scene. It's not perfect but.. yeah. If the game had originally launched with these endings I think we never would have seen the massive outpouring of hate that we did with the original. |

I liked in the synthetic one we see a Quarian without their mask, although Tali is still wearing hers on the ship in a later scene. I took that to be a glimpse into the future - though Tali might be wearing hers out of habit too. So I take it who EDI hugs in the Green ending is different depending on whom you romanced? I have to say, after all that work in getting Ash to trust me and open up to me again (HA-HA! Double Entente!), it is kinda rough to see her have to go through Shepard's death again. -------------------- Nobody knows what we're for only what we're against when we judge the wounded

Odd, replaying the Cerberus mission, I didn't notice anything new. Anything except one thing. The scaffolding section where you get attacked by the Phantoms on the narrow walkways, the corpse of the dead Proto-Reaper wasn't there (I had let Cerberus keep the base at the end of pt 2) but instead was replaced by generic Reaper tech. The Asset still shows up in my list (and still pictures the ProtoReaper).

Interesting new future DLC content in the EC game files:
HIGHLIGHT to view: Looks like it centres around the Laviathan of Dis, which is apparently the second Reaper created after Harbringer, made from the species that created the Catalyst/Space Hitler in the first place, and eventually managed to overcome its indoctrination, gain free will, went rogue and attacked the other Reapers. Looks like we can make friends with it too... Edit: also, thinking about it, I'd totally forgive the criminal underuse of Harbringer if this DLC adds a fight between Laviathan and Harbinger to the ending. (High assets) Make. Reapers. Dead. And it's really satisfying! Hackett narrates. It shows the galaxy getting back to normal. Citadel is restored in Earth orbit, Tuchanka is green and filled with little Krogan kids, Rannoch is all cool and tech looking, Zaeed is drinking on a dock with Jessie. Not a perfect universe, but the Reapers are very dead, and the people we care about who made it that far are still alive and rebuilding. And the last scene is the Normandy memorial wall. Only this time, the LI? They don't put the last placard up. And they smile. Then, the old shot. Short, sharp intake of breath. Shepard's still too tough to die. -------------------- |

Yeah, the wife did the Destroy ending and I was surprised at how satisfying that one felt.

See, I have trouble with the Destroy ending, because it wipes out the Geth and EDI. Had I not directed things so that they were positives in my adventure, I wouldn't have a problem with that. But the way that ends up being, makes me feel too much like Cerberus' methods, what with Illusive Man's talk of sacrifice, and Shepard spitting back "too much sacrifice!"
Also, where are the Salarians during the the endgame? Did they seriously just sit this one out? Batarians I understand, cus their near extinction and have been shown as "bad guys" in the past. Elcor and Volus als aren't really much of a military presence. But Salarians have a member on the Galactic Council for crying out loud! -------------------- ![]() |

It basically comes down to 1. Sacrifice yourself or 2. Sacrifice the Geth/EDI.
Even though the whole system is arbitrary and ridiculous and punishes you for refusing to play by the asinine rules of the Starchild. -------------------- Don't fail to see Nyarlathotep if he comes to Providence. im still not sure how edi is wiped out by the destroy ending. i get that her body would be, but isnt her personality wired to the normandy? as long as its around, shouldnt she be? it just says it wipes out synthetics, not a/i's or v/i's

from the link:
QUOTE To use the content, you have to load a save file from right before your assault on the Cerberus Base well, thats wrong. you can load the restart: citadel mission (i think its called the return?) if you still have it. that way you just start from before you face down marauder shields -------------------- When I die I will surely go to Heaven for i spent my life in Hell ![]() "It had a very sinister appearance," Coakley told reporters. But the way that ends up being, makes me feel too much like Cerberus' methods, what with Illusive Man's talk of sacrifice, and Shepard spitting back "too much sacrifice!" I think the "Sacrifice" was talking about how the Illusive Man was getting rather...Huskified. As for wiping out EDI and the Geth, that sucks too don't get me wrong, but at the same time the ending was hopeful but not rainbows and unicorns hopeful that Synthesis was. Also: Shepard Lives. I don't know why as that never has bothered me that he died before, but there's something awesome about having the Love Interest look at your name placard (and nobody appearently knew Shepard's first name. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-fire.gif) ) and smile. QUOTE Also, where are the Salarians during the the endgame? Did they seriously just sit this one out? Eh, what do you expect? They used to eat flies. But seriously - the Salarians have never been front line specialists. I think it was the first game that made the remark that Salarians only go to war after they've already won. Their espionage service was counted as part of the War Assets, but ultimately their military presence was minimal. Also if you cured the Genophage, you irritated a Matriarch, and appearently Salarians are all Mama's Boys. As for the addition EC Content, it's nothing too critical, but it's pretty potent stuff. Basically Shepard calls in the Normandy just before the run on the beam and has the team evac - with a heck of a tear jerker for Shepard and the Love Interest. But it does help explain how everyone got back aboard the ship. (and nobody appearently knew Shepard's first name. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-fire.gif) ) sure they did. its "commander" like the placard says lol it wouldve been nice if they had worked a way for the game to read what name you gave your character and put that on the placard QUOTE As for the addition EC Content, it's nothing too critical, but it's pretty potent stuff. The Cerberus base does have some changes, it's not alot, but they are there.
HIGHLIGHT to view: Any secrurity videos showing the Illusive Man undergoing surgery to get his "Bloodbending" and Reaper Controlling powers have been removed. This just leaves Anderson's line "you're indoctrinated" the only indication as to why he looks that way. And as I said before, the Proto Reaper corpse was no longer hanging from the ceiling in the scaffolding room, even tho EDI and Liara comment on it as if its there. This is likely a glitch. I didn't feel like playing these segments over again was the hassle the dude in the article Cheets linked earlier seemed to think it'd be. I didn't like the idea of it, but I felt that going through and replaying that segment of the game really helped me get back in the mindset of the game. Then again, that article was fantastically condescending in its desperate need to rise above the "neckbeards" (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-primal.gif) -------------------- ![]() |

Well, if Wrex is dead, you see Major Kirrahe on Earth. STG knows the score even when the Dalatrass is being a baby.
