Randy, the figures are identical 100%. Your purchases were in vain. Now go cry in the corner! Wow, talk about bad QC on that Windcharger. Yeah the little scar on his face. I had to fix that later. Another picture I found on the Internet where you can see the difference in the light gray and painted gray. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-arcee.gif) [attachment=27999:Windchargers_1_.jpg] Randy Yeah, I can see the differences in shades, though it's possible that's only because you pointed them out... isn't the general response of this thread such a nice payback for being exceedingly pleasant to people? I see... minor differences in the plastic, but I'm 99% certain it's just batch variation, given how incredibly similar they are.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-hotrod.gif) Also for being pleasant in the discussion itself. But I still don't think there's any meaningful difference in these plastics, now that I can compare mine firsthand. |

For some reason I read pleasant raving lunatic as peasant raving lunatic. Which seems befitting.

Could a peasant afford buying two releases of a toy for such negligible differences?

As much of a plastic color snob as I am at times, this isn't a figure where I look for a brighter white, like I would on a white car where it should be white. Any other changes on Thunderwing are totally lateral or even look a little worse. I like Hasbro's darker purple better I think, the pale purple stands out kind of weirdly on the Takara one.

It's nice to have one Marvel Comic based and one G1 toy / IDW comic based.
I prefer the United one (big surprise) as the Generations one seems too green in comparison and I do like the light purple a bit more than the dark purple. I think if they made either with the purple of the original toy that would be more preferable. Randy -------------------- ![]() |

Actually, the United one is more towards the scale of off white than Hasbro's. It seems more "yellow".

Yeah, Hasbro's = light gray, Takara's = cream/vanilla.

To jump back a bit to the subject of Windcharger... Now that I have my United one in hand and can compare it to the RtS version I want to throw in my two cents. Sorry if I get into this... I'm sometimes something of a color theory freak.
Ok, so first off the red parts are clearly different. There's no debate on that is there? They're a slightly different hue (with the United version being more of an apple red) and a difference in the plastic's composition. The RtS version had that semi-translucent swirly quality to it, with rivers of metallic mixed in it; whereas the United version is more opaque and has distinct, tiny sparkles embedded in it. If both are held up towards a light (but not directly at it) the RtS version glows a bit more. (AND LOOKS VERY PRETTY TOO) Now as for the grays... the light and dark gray plastics are VERY similar on both versions. However the colors on the United version are a little "cooler", color temperature-wise, than the RtS version. Maybe something like 10% cooler? Not a huge amount but literally side by side it's visible. And the same thing with the paint too. Although it's impossible for us to say for sure whether it can simply chalked up to a batch variation or if it was a legitimate design choice, but the fact that all three grays (dark, light, paint) have migrated to a cooler gray and by what appears to be the same amount would seem to me to suggest a choice by the United design team. (perhaps if only one had changed, or the changes appeared to be more random... or not all in the same "direction"...) But whatever the case it's a nice looking figure and I'm glad I got it to replace my messed up RtS version (I minorly F'd up his head mistransforming him! DOH.) And I paid less for the United version than I did the RtS one too! Ha ha... ::cries:: ( ; ~ ; ) Oh... and the only difference in color on Warpath is the red plastics, and the head being cast red. <- two more of my cents -------------------- ![]() WANTED: TRU MASTERPIECE OPTIMUS PRIME, Henkei Skyfire, and BW Neo Drancron...please PM if you have them for sale! |

Yeah there is no way the change in red wasn't intentional (or a mix up at the factory). You don't go from no sparkle plastic to sparkle plastic. The gray may be batch variation, but even then I am tending to doubt it.
