This strikes me as an entirely reasonable statement. Hasbro marketing will unquestionably have input on this, and the prevalance of Bumblebee and Optimus toys in larger size classes in recent years suggests their strategy is indeed that big toys need to either be one of these characters, or allowed because one of these characters is already in the case assortment... I was hoping they had snuck something a little bit less obviously Optimus like through, but they haven't really. Phazer ... Isn't that just how this toyline works? (or Toylines in general?) The largest toys are almost inevitably 'hot seller' characters. Ever since they brought back Optimus Prime as a Power Master it's been this way. Action Master Optimus Prime was the largest Action Masters toy. Laser Optimus Prime was the largest Gen2 toy. Optimus Primal and Megatron, Optimal Optimus, Supreme Cheetor and Supreme Optimus Primal... heck, Omega Optimus Prime... I understand there are some exceptions, but most of them (like, say, Unicron from Armada) were featured in the media to an insane degree. I think that the reason it's really noticeable with Prime and Bumblebee nowadays is because, well... there's SO MANY toys coming out nowadays. We've never seen anything remotely resembling this volume of toys in the history of the brand. Or maybe you just don't care about how toylines actually work. --Andrew S. (That's probably the best attitude to take, as a toy collector.) -------------------- |

Same for the testing comment. They took all of the feedback and jammed it all together, making a jumbled mass rather than a streamlined toy. That's it, that's exactly what I was getting at. This toy feels like the designers where getting input from multiple sources telling them "Our marketing research shows that if you do so-and-so, the toy will sell better" and stuff like "You need to do this to keep the cost down". And instead of just focusing on making a good toy, they took all the feedback and jammed it altogether because they were too paranoid that the toy wouldn't sell on its own. I'm surprised no one's made a Star Convoy comparison yet.

I'm a little surprised that there are people who thought "Optimus Maximus" wasn't going to look like Optimus Prime.
I'm not sure what's going on with his design, although it certainly reminds me of every other large Cyberverse toy we've gotten. I'll be interested to see what his base mode looks like, but I hope it's good, because I like the robot mode and am excited for there to be a new base-bot. Even if it has to be Optimus Prime this time. |

It's not Optimus Prime. It's just the Autobots' Optimus Megazord.

Nah, it's an Autobot base than can look like Optimus Prime.
Tell me that wouldn't freak the hug out of G1 Megs. "Decepticons, attack! The Autobot base is unprotected!" >GIANT MOTHERHUGGING OPTIMUS PRIME STANDS UP< "What? Optimus Prime? How can this be?! Decepticons retreat!!!" -------------------- |

I'm getting a lot of red flags here. If Walky likes it, I’m not. If someone says it “looks fun,” I won’t be having it. I’ve found those are both code for “this is for very little kids.”
I think this is the Transformers equivalent of The Homer. Or Energon Prime v.2. -------------------- |

Off the topic of Optimus Maximus:
I really hope we get a FOC Ironhide and Ratchet. I think Hasbro knows how much the Universe mold is hated, and this would be a good chance to give us a replacement for them, especially with the designs being featured in the current IDW comics. -------------------- ***Signature removed by Staff due to size restrictions.
