I hope you're right Fwiff. It would really fully explore the "what does it mean to be a Prime" show angle they spoke about in the beginning.

But damn would Prime struggling with his self-concscience and not knowing who he is (while at the same time being revered by his friends who DO know who he is) would be the most interesting take on the character in forever. --------------------  |

Another thought I saw is that he gets memories back, but that doesn't just go and restore him.
It would be like suddenly getting the memories to some other person. Another option would be that Optimus declines to have his memories restored even after rejoining the Autobots. Then the Key becomes the Big MacGuffin until it's finally used in the season finale. On Megatron.

They could go the Doctor Who route, and have him have a peek at his memories and, shockingly, decide he LIKES being blissfully ignorant rather than war-weary and jaded, and try to turn them down for a bit. Then when he DOES get them back, he's a more nuanced character since everyone knows he doesn't want to be there.
