And it's not like Artist Alley has a long, storied history at FP's BotCon. FP only created an Artist Alley exhibitor package last year. Before that you had to pay full dealer price, which was prohibitively expensive for folks like me to bother with.

Slippery Slope?
What if I can't sell custom painted figures? Retail bought toys, opened and repainted and resold. The difference between this and the tons of opened figures on sale at other tables and booths is the paint. Another table migh sell you a DotM Voyager Megs opened for $12 but I'll sell the exact same toy as the exact same character all painted up for $60. Where is the problem? -------------------- |

I think you need to ask someone who knows the answer to whether customized toys are passable. I'm pretty sure none of us do.
EDIT: Which is kind of a failing of the dealer guidelines that started this thread. They're incredibly vague and unhelpful. This post has been edited by Code of Walky: Apr 5 2012, 11:16 AM -------------------- |

I'm just throwing around hypotheticals until an answer is put forth by FunPub.

Have you considered asking them directly?

Really, guys, you act as if you've never asked hypothetical questions before. I've asked and I'm waiting as they don't have a real answer at the moment.

Have you considered asking them directly? M S: I suspect that if asked directly, and an answer were given, that answer would have to be "no, you can't". The policy is basically "no unofficial anything". The vagueness is probably intentional. The intent is obviously to keep mass-produced TF-related 3P stuff out of the con. FP probably doesn't want the traditional fanstuff swept up in this, because they want their convention to be cool. A convention without Willis selling Dinobot posters or Cheets selling custom figures (I thought you weren't going, CP?) would be measurably less cool. Perhaps not 20%, but measurably. Unfortunately, the policy probably has to cover that, too, so FP's only recourse is to delay answering any questions, or answer as vaguely as possible, until the convention gets here. Once the con gets here, no problem. I'm almost willing to bet that if Willis took a ream of Dinobot posters with him, the People in Charge would manage to mysteriously miss his table until they were all sold. Willing to bet $200? Don't know, but I guess it depends on what the going rate is for a Dinobot poster. -------------------- |

I am one of those people. I've been told I'm fine. Even so, if Puggleformers fall under "parody" and are thus safe, I would think a Obama-spoofing Dinobot poster would too. I'd probably be fine regardless. -------------------- |

This just popped up on Twitter:
QUOTE Due to fan outcry, Hasbro has changed their position on the Artist Alley and ban on fan art. Please retweet for great justice. You'll pardon my skepticism until I hear about it from more than just Twitter. -------------------- |

Supposedly this information was emailed to a TFW staff member within the last hour.
[EDIT] More info - Link. Shibura Prime posted saying this was from Fun Pub: QUOTE We're pleased to announce, per Hasbro, that artist tables will be allowed at BotCon 2012 as we have allowed it in the past, and will be permissible as part of the show. Hasbro sympathizes and understands fans' discouragement with the previous statements concerning fan art, and while remaining steadfast in the right to protect its IP in regards to unlicensed merchandise, wants to ensure fans can continue to enjoy the BotCon experience which they know is made so great in large part by the fan community.

Wasn't expecting that at theis point, but Yay. Good for them. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-hotrod.gif) -ZacWilliam, no one involved wants to make the Con less fun for the fans, and it's nice to see that taken in to consideration in a "comon sense" sort of manner. -------------------- Ever wonder about the speed of Turbofoxes?

The heck you say! -ZacWilliam, clearly that would call for piercing insight beyond human kind. Oh, I am sure they would and will. However I also have just enough faith in the average jackhole to think he is clever enough to skirt the rules and get away with it, claiming "but the rules say..." I'd love to go but it's out of my budget & too far, so I must live vicariously through "ya'll", again this year. -------------------- The Once and Future Leader

That's pretty sweet. Yes it is! Nice to be wrong, sometimes. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-hotrod.gif) -ZacWilliam, no one involved wants to make the Con less fun for the fans, and it's nice to see that taken in to consideration in a "comon sense" sort of manner. Or less profitable for the people renting tables, and no doubt that crossed a few minds, as well. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-fire.gif) -------------------- |

We are now only banning art some fans find objectionable, so, there will be no Walky art at BotCon...
yes, this is a joke. |
