Yeah, I have some friends that collect rare / "original" bootlegs too, they'll be bummed out.

I got the wacky Stunticon bootleg last year, it's awesome. Some refer to it as "G2 Menasor".

Doesn't BBTS never show up for the "far" (Texas, Calif, etc) Botcons anyway?

Yeah, it costs them too much to haul that stuff cross country.

And now some horrible, horrible lawyer-speak in there that says "We can steal jive off your table if we feel like it".

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-primal.gif) That's clearly not the spirit or the intent. Let's stop with that sort of nonsense exaggeration.

I believe the decision was made more like 2009.

On the topic at hand, I'm not the least bit surprised. I mean, who didn't think it was ballsy to see loads of full 3rd party figures at the Con last year when it's Hasbro's own convention?

Anyone who didn't see this coming is living in a fantasy land. Common sense should tell you what is and isn't ok to sell at a Hasbro convention. The add-on stuff like weapons and heads is likely to not be an issue as you need Hasbro product for any of that to be useful. Original figures that have no connection to Hasbro IP is the same. Old bootlegs of product that Hasbro no longer sells such as the previously mentioned white Cyclonus are probably ok too. FanProject's Hercules and the like? No way. I don't think they'll crack down on custom figures either as Hasbro made their money off that already and any additional profit to the seller is more for the time and effort put into it than trying to make money off of Hasbro's IP.

Has this already been upgraded from "rumor" to "official" now or something? Not that it affects me, but if it wasn't for this thread, I would've assumed that the sentence "items that infringe on any third party rights" just referred to stuff like the overpriced bootleg VHS tapes that used to be sold by one (now banned, I assume) overpriced dealer at BotCon.

If FP/Hasbro was really banning 3rd party stuff, I'd assume they would be more specific about it and make a bigger deal about it, rather than hiding it in a huge wall of text.

I'm hoping to still see some vintage style KO's there, as well as Gobots & other competitor lines from the 80's. I understand if the Igear, maketoys, etc. stuff is not permissible, but I hope the wacky 80's stuff or modern g1 boots still are... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-bee.gif)

This is probably obvious, but I'm kind of trying to parse what would or wouldn't fly.

Obvious things that would be out would be Warbot Defender. Presumably Protector armor and Commander armor.
What about Battle Tanker? That would certainly be more along the lines of aftermarket...oh, wait, comes with a head that likely infringes, that's out.
Weapon packs should probably be OK?

I don't have an issue with the whole preventing IP infringing products at Botcon, but there are some, I guess aftermarket, add ons that don't infringe. I kinda hope those wouldn't be an issue.

Admittedly, I can't afford to attend a Botcon until it comes back to the midwest again, but if/should that happen, I wouldn't mind being able to buy add on kits for existing figures if they don't infringe IP.

although that too raises some questions. The general shape of G1 Prime's gun is iconic, so for example(and old one), Alternators/BT Prime/Convoy had a gascan that transforms into a pretty good facsimile, so would that be out too, presumably?

I suppose to be safe any vendor would just want to eschew any 3rd party products altogether.

Not any more if it ever was. Blech, I spent way too much time today in that thread trying to reason with idiots or spread actual logic, facts and (un)common sense and I actually feel kinda soiled now.

I know, I know, I shouldn't have wasted my time, but I just find willful ignorance, illogic and entitlement so damn offensive I couldn't help myself. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-waspy.gif)

-ZacWilliam, which is why I should probably spend less time online in general probably...
