The number 1 thing to do to protect yourself is to simply review your credit card bill and bank statements when they arrive every month. It takes 5 minutes, just go down the list and make sure that there's nothing strange on there you don't recognize. It's so easy, but a lot of people just don't do it. If you spot anything unusual, give them a call and tell them about your concerns.

It's good you noticed this, and I really hope it isn't FunPub, but yeah. In either case, keep an eye out on your statements from here on out, and good luck.

FWIW, I don't think "identity theft insurance" is worthwhile.

And don't get embarassed about querying a charge. Often the business name you see on your statement is different to the applicable store name.

It's honestly not a big deal, and doesn't bother your bank employees in the slightest (unless you do it on a weekly basis. Long story there).

Hell, I've done it on many occasions myself.

Funniest one I had was a guy in the branch, absolutely irrate at our 'lack of security and lack of care for cardholders and their funds'.

He noticed $600 missing off his available balance on his credit limit.

I couldn't swivel the screen around, and he was being a bit obnoxiously loud about it (Damn these bankers etc etc).

He turned bright red when I told him it was a $600 charge at an adult store in his suburb. I gave him the date of the transaction, and that was enough to remind him that oops, that was actually a legitimate purchase.

He left in a hurry.

To this day I wonder what he'd bought for $600 at a sex store, but well, at the same time, I may be better off not knowing.

I've had a similar incident just brought to my attention with my account.

My wife called me today to ask if I had made a $300 purchase online at Wal-mart. I told her no, and to get in touch with our bank. She did so, and confirmed that the amount was 'pending', and was most likely going to be declined. And, point of fact, this is the second such charge attempt made (and declined). The first was to a different online vendor.

I spoke with the bank myself, and confirmed that it is indeed MY card number that has been used on both occasions. Now, I'm VERY careful about my online purchases, so the only thing that this could be is if indeed there's been some kind of issue with the TCC's security.

I plan on calling them as well as sending Pete a PM to inquire about this, and will share any insight they may provide. If there has indeed been some kind of breach and they've not shared it, then I'm afraid my association with them will be done. I certainly won't be able to trust them with sensitive information again.

Still no suspicious charges on mine, and I don't think there will be at this point, but since the "good Samaritan" tipped me off to when the breach happened, I know it had to be TCC.

I don't commonly use my debit card for online purchases, let alone anyone who I'd have my cell number on file with. Made it easy to narrow down. Might be a good idea for people who have dealt with them to go over their statements, at least starting in April since that's when I was informed that my information was compromised.

Yeah, I was days away from treating myself to a club membership (primarily to get Runabout and Runamuck) but this puts a stop to that. For now at least.

Chiming in. One of the CC was hit with fake charges last week. I'd used that card to sign up for the club and for the 2011 Botcon set.

BTW, we've had fake calls from our bank over the summer. I don't answer calls without running a check on the number. So I called the bank directly and it was an old fraud alert number that had called.
The bank rep said that they hadn't called and we both went over accounts looking for fake charges. There none at that time.

My membership expires at the beginning of next month. I guess I could just use my credit card.

I wonder if this validates all the joking about all the Fun Pub websites feeling like they're from the late 1990's.

If true, then this makes me even *less* interested in a club account.

My debit card is all I have right now; I can't afford the interest payments on a credit card.

I spoke with the Club briefly, and they deny any breach. However, looking at the statement myself I see that one charge was attempted at an online car stearo site, and the other is WalMart.com

Neither of which I did.

So, yeah. I have absolutely no intention of renewing my membership this coming year, or following through with my potential Joe Club membership either. I don't trust them at all anymore.

That's why you use it only for things you can actually cover with real money, and keep it paid off. It's not having the credit card that you can't afford, it's using the credit card wrong.

And no, this isn't me inviting some random, drawn-out, sad story about why this doesn't apply for you.

Que another one for believing this was fun pub. I got a call the next day with somone from bank of america telling there was a $220 charge from greece. They knew all my info...only this WAS from bank of america, they have changed my card. I checked the account after peeping this thread. I didnt want to raise the alarm then, but yeah, FP was the only place I had recently used that card.

Found this post on TFW's. Another member also mentions fake charges on their card. The misspelling is not mine.

More fraudulant activity- keep an eye on out. http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/transformers...ep-eye-out.html

Now I wish I hadn't signed in on the first day. I was on the fence about getting the Primus package and changed my mind after seeing the small pics of the set.

I've carefully looked over my statement and I see nothing amiss. I will however be vigilant about checking my statement for quite a while.

Well Pete posts here...I'm sure he'll respond. The club wouldn't have any reason to try to keep this quiet, right? I mean, it's bound to come out, so why lie about it?
