Like it says in the topic: is it still possible to buy a Henkei Starscream without just having to hope you haven't dropped a lot of money on the crappy knockoff? s there any way to tell from the packaging? I've been burned once on this, because I didn't realize the KO was available in normal Starscream colors. Should I just assume they're all fakes?

As I understand it, the KO doesn't have a TakaraTomy logo on the upper right hand side, and lacks the embossed Transformers logo on the bubble.
Ah, that only applies to the second release of the KO. :/ This post has been edited by Spectre: Nov 10 2011, 09:25 PM -------------------- |

I didn't think they KO'ed Henkei Starscream, but they must have...
The real Henkei Starscream is very pretty, probably my favorite release of the Seeker mold, it's just very good. Randy -------------------- ![]() |

Do your due diligence, I am sure there are tells. The sky isn't falling.

Do your due diligence, I am sure there are tells. The sky isn't falling. Oh, once you open him it's completely obvious. Aside from the known tell in the shoulder sculpt, there are quality differences: torso won't quite close, wings are floppy, feels cheap. None of that is helpful when you're buying stuff on the internet. Spectre, thanks for the helpful info. I may just go with the Universe toy. -------------------- |

Do your due diligence, I am sure there are tells. The sky isn't falling. Not to restart an extremely tired argument, but fans put off purchasing a legit item because of the abundance of KO's of said item = not good for the health of the collector base, surely? TF's seem to have so many more current and 'accurate' bootlegs than a lot of other lines I collect. It's great it has that level of appeal, but well, people get frustrated if they think they're buying the real deal, and get a KO instead. Yeah they can get re-imbursed, but it's still off-putting for the next time you go to buy online. |

I know I would be hesitant to buy any of the Henkei Seekers without thorough investigation or trusting the dealer from previous experience.

What about Henkei Megatron? Are there issues of legitimacy with those as well?

KO's I believe are limited to every iteration of the Henkei/Gentei Seekers, Mirage (specifically the BotCon, Clear Gentei, Fracture, Dragstrip, and the Henkei), Classics Voyager Optimus (specifically SG Optimus, Convoy Black, Crystal Convoy), Classics Rodimus (specifically Wildrider and SG Rodimus), and Universe Sideswipe.
I haven't heard of any KO's of Voyager Megatron or anyone else (I may be forgetting someone though). Randy -------------------- ![]() |

There are Voyager Megatron KOs, but they aren't identical to any release. They have odd colors, and in some cases, minor remolds.

The non-replica KOs are completely original decos and packaging. Some add light and sound! Still, impossible to mistake for the HasTak item. I was completely unaware of the Mirage-mold KOs until I sold my Dragstrip and two different bidders emailed me to make sure he was legit. I had to go check a comparison thread at TFW just to be sure I hadn't been ripped off when I bought him.
I have no real objection to crazypants knockoffs like those Megatrons. The orange one looks outstanding. -------------------- |
