Roberts handled this entire decompressed, terrible little arc SO MUCH BETTER in a four issues miniseries and actually used Transformers in a Transformers comic to make his point.

Those 7 pages look so insanely dull that I just haven't got any will to read the dialog.
They just stand around talking... for 7 freaking pages! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-wildride.gif) |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-wildride.gif) I'd be willing to bet a good portion of the remaining pages go that way too. Costa clearly finds this all riveting. -ZacWilliam, likely there'll be some breif action in there somewhere... Maybe... Right? I'm sure there'll be room for a fight scene in which half the characters established to be present never appear on panel.

Comes across as dull, but not horrible.

What gets to me is no only that it's just seven pages of talking. But the dialogue itself is dull in some places.
Magnus especially. I like that their getting into human and Autobot relations in a realistic way. But it shouldn't feel this dull or strained. -------------------- .

Is that supposed to be Ironfist's data-slug there on the table next to Spike?

The problems you guys are having with this comic are problems that are happening all over comics. Don't get me wrong, I love BMB's stuff in TPB format, but if I had to read anything he wrote on a monthly basis I would go insane.

The problems you guys are having with this comic are problems that are happening all over comics. Bull. 'Everyone else is doing it' should never be a valid defense. You know who writes comics that don't have those problems? James Roberts and John Barber, the guys we've been waiting to take over. The fact fan-preferred writers are coming on board should be the final nail for people insisting we should just sit back and accept an inferior product. |

Thing is, I've been seeing a conscious move away from this crap from the Big Two; even from Bendis. Besides which, bad is bad regardless of whether it's bad in a trendy way. -------------------- |

With all the script gripes, there's not enough mention of how outstanding Brendan Cahill's art is. He does the robot faces so well. I hope IDW has a lot of work lined up for him.

I actually liked this preview. Yes it has the typical ongoing/Costa problems of pacing (A particularly lethargic snail being the most apt comparison) but the little morality slow burn here actually works. It's just it would have worked as part one of this interminable storyline.
I agree with Spike, which is somewhat surprising seeing as he's been a thoroughly unlikeable strawman throughout most of the run. I also find myself agreeing, at least slightly with Prowl/Jazz, so it's interesting that neither character is clearly in the right (or obviously in the wrong) here. Magnus does feel a little off. It feels like they've removed the Tyrest Accord stick he's had in his aft for the past 28 or so issues. It doesn't quite work, the plan seems a little hot-headed to come from Magnus. If it was from Jazz, Rodimus or even Streetwise I could see it, but not IDW Magnus (Who's been one of my favorite characters in the run) The art's great, I can tell who's who, it flows clearly with the action (well "action") of the preview. Be interesting to see fi it holds up when stuff actually happens. -------------------- ![]() |

http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/c...preview-173657/ How bad is it, when I actualy agree with Spike? ;P I said the same thing a few times - the way Prowl was written in the past IDW comics before Costa came along, he should be helping Spike to sweep the whole thing under the rug. Not to mention how internal human military matters are not really his responsibility. Oh, and Costa never read AHM or its sequels? Skywatch killed off Thrust when he was buried under rubble, I guess that doesn't count as 'murder'. Neither did we hear about what happened to Agent Red and all his cronies, who, under the same organization, brainwashed and controlled Cybertronians, Grimlock included - something Prowl should find more worriesome. I wonder where ol' Grimmer is these days. Primus, I never thought I'd say this in the Furman days, but TF comics sure need a healthy dose of a well-written Grimlock now. Not every writer depicts 100% villains and 100% heroes. This preview proves to me that the writer at least thinks Spike has a strong point. Though, uh, I guess far be it from me to suggest that perceived moral depth isn't just some laughable mistake. -------------------- |
