Started because the Avengers thread was drifting.
Warener Brothers was rumored to be rebooting Batman ASAP after Dark Knight Rises, and trying to work towards a JLA movie. Green Lantern's failure probably hasn't helped that goal, and who knows if there will be any DC Universe elements to the next Superman movie. -------------------- On them twitters

No. In fact, they're looking at a double Batman Reboot (at least last I heard)...one for stand alone movies, one for the JLA movie line. Same with Superman. ********************************************************** from the other thread: Makes me wonder if Marvel character's are just more marketable or if Warner just sucks trying to produce any live action comic that isn't grim/serious tone. Much more the later. DC...well WB has career suits in charge for the most part. A lot of the hell DC Movies have had is that Jon Peters, a schmuck producer who gained lots of in studio power, essentially attached himself as the guy for superhero movies after Batman 89 made so much cash. If you've read about Kevin Smith's Superman attempt, Peters is the one who wanted Superman to fight Polar Bears. (He's also why the Wild Wild West movie was so bad..and why there was a giant spider...he's into that). But besides him, there's the corporate culture of "Well it worked once, so it'll work bunches". thus, Dark Superman, because, hey, Dark Knight made tons of cash. And they have casting issues. Not like Ryan Reynolds...he's fine for the Hal they were writing, who's DC Vp's version of Hal as studly playboy, banging teenage chicks.. (Not every one else's version of Hal, who of course is Renolds' pal, Nathon Fillion). No, it's problems like in a cast featuring Morgan Freeman, Ken Watanabe, Liam Neeson, and Michael Cain, they put Katie Holmes as the female lead. Or Blake Lively, or whatever the flavor of the month WB girl who was Lois in Superman Returns. I'm not sold on Amy Adams, but the Muppets seem to be giving her a thumbs up. -------------------- Confound these ponies, they drive me to photoshop! http://scavgraphics.deviantart.com/ The Dark History of Ponyville and the Earth Pony Kingdom of Madness![]() My Little Pony: Friendship is Music links | You're the Best Pony Sports Montage | Sonic Rainboom Original Ending |

Peters is still at WB? I thought he was done?!
Bummer. My favorite Peters quote: “I’ve never really read a book,” he said. “But have I got stories.” http://www.thewrap.com/media/column-post/j...backstory-13944 I have no idea how much of his story, or the stories around him are fabricated, but the guy does seem like a complete jerkbag. And I thought he wanted Brainiac to fight polar bears, and Superman to fight a giant (mechanical?) spider. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-screamer.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-fire.gif) You may be right...I think you are in fact..it was along the lines of Braniac storms the Fortress of Solitude after the death of Superman. JP: "Let's have Braniac fight someone." KS: "There's no one there it's the Fortress of Solitude." JP: "Maybe there's guards there." KS "It's Superman's Fortress of Solitude." JP: "......Hey, I saw a show on Discovery about how tough polar bears are. Let's have him fight some polar bears!" KS: "......sigh" And yeah, the Giant Spider is the same one that shows up for WWW. I think Peters is gone, or at least is no longer the problem with DC movies, I offered him as historical evidence. But his spiritual descendents are there.

(Not every one else's version of Hal, who of course is Renolds' pal, Nathon Fillion). I still don't get why people think he would make a great Hal. He's more Guy than hal any day. JP: "Let's have Braniac fight someone." KS: "There's no one there it's the Fortress of Solitude." JP: "Maybe there's guards there." KS "It's Superman's Fortress of Solitude." What I find funny is that the fortress of solitude in All Star Superman had lots of robots walking around. Marvel has done an excellent job picking directors for their properties, and I wish WB would take the same risks with DC movies.
It paid off with Nolan, and Snyder could be great. It's going to be a huge challenge both getting him to do the over-the-top spectacle he is known for, while also delivering an interesting plot and characters. I'm not saying it's impossible, just unlikely. I wish WB would hire Edgar Wright for something, he would have been perfect for Green Lantern. -------------------- On them twitters

You know Green Lantern did well enough to warrant a sequel, right? Because they're working on a Green Lantern sequel. I know they've said that, but unless it does gangbusters on home video, I think it's just posturing. The numbers on it cost $300 mil with advertising, and it's only made $200 mil worldwide. With those numbers, a sequel will be made as cheaply as possible, which doesn't give me hope. -------------------- On them twitters

Don't forget that Warner Bros/DC Ent also has a Flash film that has been in development for the past several years. The script for Green Lantern 2 was green lighted last winter and I assume the writers have started working on it despite getting a green light from the studio. There was rumours in the summer time of a "Hawkman" film entering development and that DC Ent was looking at Tom Welling of all people to star in something. "Green Arrow: SuperMax" seems to have entered into development hell. At one point the Green Arrow part was tossed out completely. They really do need to get their act together and come up with a definitively executable plan like Marvel Studios has right now. You don't need to duplicate it exactly but you need to come up with something because other than Batman and hopefuly "Man of Steel" you've got nothing right now. They really were hoping that "Green Lantern" was a smash hit.

But the poor reaction to GL by critics and audiences could also mean that a direct sequel bombs even harder. But what do I know, we don't get paid bazillions to work in Hollywood. On Martin Cambell: I love, love, love Mask of Zorro, but I am really lukewarm on his Bond outings, and activley dislike most of his other stuff. I just felt like he wasn't into GL at all. There was of course major studio rejiggering, so it will be interesting to see if there's a Directors cut released at some point. Wathced the Richard Donner Superman over the weekend. More fun then I remembered, but about a half hour to long. I felt sorry for Ned Beatty. -------------------- On them twitters

How come when it's a director people like.... it's always the "Producer/execs" but when it's a director people don't like it's always the "Director"? Because you never blame the people you like. And because you blame who's influence is heaviest. Why does Joel Schumaker get the blame for Batman and Robin and not Avika Goldman who wrote it or the producers who said "We want funny" Cambell has a track record that GL is an aberration of. Given what we know of WB execs flailing at the superhero market, the poorly managed launch of the DCnU is a sign of that, blame gets put where blame gets put.

I still think Green Arrow: Super Max could be rather awesome. Green Arrow is already Libertarian Tony Stark cosplaying as Robin Hood and without his Batman rivalry (Arrowcave, Arrowcar!) and other DCU things for him to bounce off and make interesting that setting just works gangbusters.
Now the Flash movie... (IMG:http://i.imgur.com/vczbX.jpg) -------------------- |
