I'm guessing the aliens are a more human-like version of the shape changing aliens from the first volume of The Ultimates (which has influenced the Marvel films quite a bit).

Having seen the Iron Man films, Cap, and planning on viewing Thor and Incredible Hulk, this film looks like a big pay off for Marvel, but definitely leaves us wanting more.

I'd just like to point out the ending of Captain America. HIGHLIGHT to view: It really looked to me as though the Cube tore open a hole in space-time and Red Skull was "beamed away". It's a vague death sequence and I think it will tie heavily into what happens in The Avengers.
