Fortunately, some alternate endings exist that lighten the mood.

Ah, Cupcakes...
Never actually read the story myself, but I've heard quite a bit about it. I've mentioned before that I knew of the wild popularity of this show for nearly an entire year before actually giving it a shot, and I knew a fair bit of fanon as it was, which includes Cupcakes. Gotta say, the whole Evil Pinkamena craze - which I mainly attribute to the story - actually soured me slightly on Pinkie at first. Obviously I always knew that was nowhere near what the character really was, and it never kept me from enjoying her scenes, but I do think on some level it held me back from appreciating the character. I had seen some rather frightening images and such - in particular a rather unexpected one on TVTropes where she's basically tearing out of the screen with a knife in her mouth took me off gaurd - and I think in the back of my mind I couldn't quite stop thinking there was a dark side to her. (One of the first things I saw of her was her My Little Maniac scene in Party Of One, I'm sure that didn't help... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-waspy.gif) ) But you know, in a series where basically every episode ends with best of friends coming together and overcoming their obstacles with the power of friendship, with so many sweet heartwarming moments, it was something so remarkably minor that somehow tugged at me... this little scene right here: Maybe it's because it's so minor - a little 17-second scene that nopony even mentions afterwards, that I like it. The little things in life and all that. But I dunno, I really sympathized with the guy, because I mean he sounded so excited when he thought they were throwing him a party, even if he probably didn't know anypony there, and when Twilight slammed the door in his face, I was like "Well that's a bit harsh... c'mon, it's his birthday!" But before I even really had a chance to be sad, in comes Pinkie to make it all better with the smallest of gestures. It was just so strangely perfect, and made me realize how sweet she really is. Smile, Smile, Smile helped it a long as well, as it's basically the Pinkie song, telling you what she's all about, and it also kind of changed my perspective a bit. Before that I thought her being the Element of Laughter simply signified that she laughed quite a bit, and was a really silly comedic pony, but now I see that it's spreading laughter that makes her special - she's not out to simply amuse herself, but to make others smile instead; that's what really makes her happy. Looking back, I have no idea how I missed this, because it was obvious from the very beginning. The first thing we see of Pinkie is her meeting Twilight, before gasping in shock and running off to throw her a welcome party, because she immediately came to the conclusion that she was the new girl in town, and thus probably doesn't have any friends there and must be really lonely. So she throws her party and invites everypony to it so that she'll have tons of friends. When you step back and think about it, how amazing is that gesture? I don't actually have anything against the writer of Cupcakes - freedom of creative expression and all that, and from what I hear it's actually pretty well-written, but I am glad that I don't let that affect me anymore. It's funny, but more recently I saw this video as part of HaxMega's typical "stream's not live at the moment so have a massive medley of pony clips" thing with Pinkamena, and it showed her Party Of One scenes with a creepy crimson filter, mixed with scary fanart, and it... didn't phase me at all. I'm sure it would've irked me before, but not anymore. And I think I know why, too. I saw this one series of comics about the Cupcakes story finding it's way to Equestria and being teleported to Pinkie, and then to all of her friends before finally getting to Rainbow Dash. And Pinkie - and in turn the rest of the Mane 6 - all worry about what's going to happen when Rainbow reads it, with Pinkie fearing that it'll end up making her afraid of her and ruining their friendship and all that. But in a rather surprise ending, after all that fretting and build-up, Rainbow does end up reading it, only to laugh at how ridiculous it is. Because she's a close friend to Pinkie, so much so that the idea of her being secretly evil is just that ludicrous. And I think I'm in a similar boat. I can't be scared by Pinkie anymore. I know her too well. ...Wow, I went off on a bit of a tangent there. And I could actually say more, because I think Pinkie's actually quite a bit deeper a character than she appears to be, but I'm tired, so I'll just end it here for now. where she's basically tearing out of the screen with a knife in her mouth heh, I've seen that one. But I prefer this one, where you'd actually want her to get out. (IMG:http://s17.postimage.org/9knmj2rf3/112472_fourth_wall_pinkie_pie_tv.png) Pinkie's had a lot of television-related stuff, though. Even an official one, with that billboard advertisement parodying Poltergeist. But this one is easily the creepiest, IMO. The fun starts here: http://musapan.deviantart.com/art/Pinkie-P...cakes-244071995 And honestly, after more than a week of Nightmare on Elmstreet marathoning...the story didn't freak me out really at all. But it may be a couple episodes before I stop seeing sinister overtones on poor Pinky Pie...*sees TM2 Megatron's picture*...yeeeeeah, I'm over it! -------------------- |

Does one ever stop seeing the sinister overtones after reading Cupcakes?

[Lot o' words] I see you had a lot on your mind. I'm glad to see you express your thoughts like that. I enjoyed reading it over the short one sentence replies. But yeah, after I heard of it, I was scared to read it for my few months my self. Oh, my terrible overactive imagination. It seemed like they did a pretty good job portraying what Pinkie would be like if she snapped. scary stuff. -------------------- I find you to be a valuable member of the community. ... That...makes sense. Your theory is fairly well thought out, and definitely sounds like it could work. Holy crap! That's very haunting. I must fav that! That just replaced my other Luna fav. |

Actually I found "Party of None" more frightning. For one thing, it's an alternate ending to an episode where Pinkie actually did cannonicly snap, which made it more believable.
But also, even though no one died...or even really got hurt...it did more than just decribing gory scenes in detail. It actually got into Dashes head, letting us know precisely how she was feeling and why. Getting into the victim's head was much scarier than just describing gore, even with out the body count. http://www.equestriadaily.com/2011/05/party-of-none.html -------------------- |

Thanks~ I guess I just felt compelled to get that out somewhere, and this seemed the most appropriate thread, since it's the most general. And yeah, from what I've heard, one of the creepier things about it is the way that it actually pretty accurately portrays her personality whilst making her evil, with silly puns and such, making it seem canonical... I'm just glad the intended sequel I've heard about never came out. Evidently it would've had her chaining Fluttershy to the boiler in her basement or something like that, leaving her to starve for weeks, before tossing Angel down to see if she'd eat him... yeesh. -------------------- ![]() |

It might have something to do with all of those pony avatars on every forum for every thing.
