UPDATE: After finishing Apple Bloom I have now started my next project: Fluttershy. Follow this link to go to the Fluttershy portion of this thread: http://www.allspark.com/forums/index.php?s...t&p=1905410
UPDATE II: Next up is Sweetie Belle. You can find her portion of the thread here: http://www.allspark.com/forums/index.php?s...t&p=1952813 I´m currently sculpting a little miniature representation of Applebloom, in scale to the current PVC-ponies. There may or may not be more Cutie Mark Crusaders later... The materials: (IMG:http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/2728/dsc01483kn.jpg) A piece of cork to mount the sculpt on, some wire for the armature, Green Stuff, Super Sculpey and assorted sculpting tools. The first step is to make an armature from wire, to give he sculpt stability. This armature is then thinly coated in green stuff, because the sculpey has a hard time sticking to the wires themselves, but adheres very well to the green stuff. After putting the sculpey onto the armature the sculpting itself begins. First the rough proportions are established, and then the sculpt needs to be smoothed out, giving a nice, even surface. This step is very time-intensive and can tend to feel like a chore. The sculpt so far: (IMG:http://img717.imageshack.us/img717/306/dsc014872.jpg) Now I´ll double check for any imperfections, then it´s off ot the oven to cure. Once hardened, I´ll then add the tail and mane. I chose to go with a more screen-accurate design, rather than emulate the style of the PVCs. The eyes are simple indents, to make it easier to paint the resin casts of this sculpt. And a quick size comparison with PVC Applejack and Gummy: (IMG:http://img807.imageshack.us/img807/3305/dsc01488n.jpg) Cheers! This post has been edited by WorkbenchManiac: Nov 18 2011, 11:48 PM |

Woot! Applebloom! She's adorable. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-hotrod.gif)
What is super sculpey? I tried sculpting with green stuff, but it is not perfect for small details (plus it sticks to fingers). Right now I am trying to do fins for my D&D Bronze dragon custom, and while I did the spines from green stuff, the leather membrane just won't work with that... -------------------- The de-evolution of Optimus Prime:
