Yeeaaahhhh... San Diego Comicon Exclusives... Our 100,000,000th Movie Optimus figure (yawn) and that weak looking Deluxe-size TF:Prime Optimus in fancy packaging. Granted the packaging sounds creatively neat on both, but the figures themselves are REALLY boring IMO.
San Diego is the time to go all out with fan aimed weird and awesome stuff you wouldn't see at retail. Two more slightly tweeked Primes miss the point and lacks any excitement at all. G.I.Joe's getting much better, much fan geekier Comicon Exclusives this year. Weak Showing TF team. ZacWilliam, really disappointed in these, but they DO open up funds to try and get that Joe Screamer/Cobra Comander set. If that's an SDCC "premium" version of Prime Prime with silvery paint instead of dull grey plastic, I'm into it.

Suited unmasked James with Mideval Warrior ancestor and /or Pimp Colored Destro? Yes. Podium CC or CC with a Starscream Joe Jet? Yes. Big G1 Reissue Cassette sets? Yes. What do we get this year? Two Prime color variants among tons flooding the stores for the movie push. I repeat: Yawn. ZacWilliam, the Joe team and Mattel are presenting SDCC exclusives as they should be. So.
A version of a headliner character and his ancestor with the same name, that same headliner character in a funky costume, a very well known Transformer, and the evil version of Optimus Prime x2. Oh yeah. And Soundwave, whose been reissued a hundred million times. That's not uniquely fannish. It's using the well known characters. Uniquely fannish is stuff like what you get from Botcon. This is geeky, but geeky in the broadest sense of the word possible. Just like these 2 Primes. This post has been edited by Razorsaw: May 26 2011, 04:04 PM -------------------- ![]() |

Just like these 2 Primes. Again, the difference is those were unique versions of those popular characters with niche geek appeal that you would never get at regular retail. These on the other hand are two of the same guy whose receiving a billion figures right now in just slightly tweaked colors that would and could 100% fit in on any retail shelf. I don't so much mind Prime as an Exclusive, but a borring generic Prime that isn't much different from retail is a waste, and TWO boring generic Primes in the same year? The only thing that feels at all special about these is the packaging. That seems to be where all the creativity went. But I'm a Toy collector not a packaging collector. If the toy is dull a package that does a little dance and lights your birthday candle isn't making up for it, and thats what these are. ZacWilliam, would have been less disappointed if only one of the exclusives was a paint tweaked Prime, but both? Blah. So they're taking a cue from Robot Masters G1 Convoy and LioConvoy then.

what I'm saying is, the SDCC exclusives speak to a broader appeal than, say, Botcon stuff. These two Primes are following that pattern. And really, I think more elaborate, better paint detailed versions of toys is something special that you can't get at retail.

Expecting BotCon-style stuff at SDCC is a waste of everyone's time. It's an entirely different venue with different goals.

Oh, I don't expect anything Botcon obscure. But not incredibly boring would be nice. See G.I.Joe or Matel's offerings for an example of SDCC exclusives worth waiting in line for. ZacWilliam, there's ceretainly a difference between Botcon Geeky and SDCC Geeky, but slightly recolored Primes is lowballing any standard IMO. -------------------- Ever wonder about the speed of Turbofoxes?

That's been like, over 50 % of the SDCC exclusives, dude.
And no, man, I can't consider Nemesis Prime as being much different. It's Prime in black. I LIKE Nemesis Prime and I have to admit that. It's painfully easy to conceptualize. -------------------- ![]() |

That's been like, over 50 % of the SDCC exclusives, dude. Well different standards. Generally I have found past TF exclusives interesting and cool and find these super dull and uninteresting. You're welcome to differ. ZacWilliam, again, at least Joe and Mattel are hitting on all cylanders this year. It appears Fun Publications let it slip who Cheetor's partner is... HIGHLIGHT to view: Sideswipe. If you didn't already know based on the previous hints and rumors that is. Randy -------------------- ![]() |

Also the DotM box is cool. Reminds me of a giant Alternator white bubble box with a flame slip case.

Oh, I don't expect anything Botcon obscure. But not incredibly boring would be nice. If you saw the packaging for these guys, "boring" would be the farthest thing from your mind. You're only getting half the story. -------------------- |
