I guess it's a bit of a bandwagon thing, but the ones at my university seem pretty harmless.

The weekday furries that come into the store usually aren't too bad, they generally just come in wearing a tail, and that's it.

The weekend ones though are a pain. Coming in full furry costumes, and having sex in the bathrooms and out by the dumpsters.

How are you defining furry? Therians, otherkin, and Disney (or any anthropomorphized) characters may not apply depending on whom you're asking.

Why do people dislike Trekkies?

Sorry just as easy a group to be pick on.

Just like most comic book geeks don't seem to know what soap and deodorant are.... I HATE CONVENTIONS.

Well its different and strange to most people.

I don't have a problem with furries if they want to spend huge amounts of money on a suit to have sex in more power to you. but I have a problem with furry rule 34 artists ruining my childhood. poor renamon (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-screamer.gif)

Pretty much. I make a point not to engage in this normally, myself.

Also, to go along with what Dissever said, I'm not entirely sure everyone is always talking about exactly the same things when they say "furries". Also, I've heard of a lot weirder stuff than this people can be into, and met some people who are into some of them, and in the grand scheme of things being furry seems as harmless as most other preferences.

Besides, it's possible that, in time, the internet will make furries of us all. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-waspy.gif)

I think you'll find people have as little sympathy for them too. Nothing like seeing a three hundred pound guy with Spock ears farting every time he so much as moves.

At the very least, I'll give furries this, of the various fanatical fanbases, they seem to manage to keep their eight down. Probably from all that running pretending to be wolves, or stallions, or something.

If you're not a furry, they're all furries. If you are what others would consider a furry, then therians, otherkin, etc matter a LOT more. It's TRUKK NOT MUNKY or FIRRIB/FIBRIR territory.

I'm sure the creators of the show knew full well what they were doing.

Exactly. I guess I could be considered one under the loose definition, but all the... weird stuff that the label has gotten associated with is too much trouble to bother wearing. I don't want to have to waste 20 minutes explaining that no, I don't believe I have the soul of a wombat, or whatever sick stuff people think it means. I just like using animal stereotypes in stories, that's all.

Furries really get a lot of jive from practically everyone.

It's pretty much the "most accepted" group to just generally hate on.

That kinda sucks if you are one of them. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-wildride.gif)

The vocal majority basically ruins it for the same ones.

But of all the fetish fandoms out there, it does have a lot of drama. Everything from complaining about stealing artwork, original character do not steal, fursecution, etc.

Yeah, of all the groups that people generally sprinkle their disdain on, I think it's close to universal among them that furries are the most creepily misguided.
The fascination with all of it is goddamn baffling, personally. But I collect toys for kids, so I dunno if I'm fit to evaluate how anyone gets their jollies.

The thing is, furry is a broad enough category to be almost a meaningless word. It runs a spectrum from "thinks Disney stories with humanoid animals are cool" to "wants to have sex with animals" to "thinks they are actually a werewolf stuck in human form".

I never thought that was actually part of the whole furry thing, myself. I'd heard of the fursuits or whatever, and attraction to anthro versions of animals or animal characters. But actual animals? Never heard that.

That's cool.

to "wants to have sex with animals"

As long as they don't cross into the realm of actually doing it (which even in the furry fandom is looked down upon, except in the the fringes), then whatever. Drawing someone doing their dog never hurt anyone, unless someone saw it by accident and needed eye bleach. Fantasizing about it, fine, just don't tell everyone about it. Start eying someone's pussy, and then you're crossing the line.

QUOTE
to "thinks they are actually a werewolf stuck in human form".

Mostly harmless in theory, though there are some who end up having children and try to push that onto them, or try to get feral.

This strip, and the ones immediately after it. (Strong language, but no actual NSFW visuals.)
