See the internet has allowed people to make blanket judgment statements like the one Defunct just did without having even read the book. If it is terrible because you're not a JMS fan and don't care to read it because of it, that's one thing but I'm starting to get tired of fans making blanket statements without any reason to, or providing a reason for it. Dark Destroyer This book possesses terribleness. It is a quality that is practically scrawled across the cover of the book. Calling it such is like remarking that your face has a nose on it. Are you being sarcastic/snarky/joking? Snarky yes, joking no. -------------------- . . . |

Snarky yes, joking no. Ah, gotcha. All it took for me to learn JMS had no business writing Superman at all was one-third of Superman #700. -------------------- QUOTE You're far too young to be this bitter and angry at the world.... ![]() |

i liked JMS just fine in 'supreme power,' but something about the artwork is turning me off. i wouldn't worry too much about a single line from the NY Post referencing 'twilight.' i mean... it's the NY Post. -------------------- [insert witty, philosophical, controversial, and/or deep quote here]

I thought smallville was supposed to be Superman for the twilight generation. Considering it came out when Dawsons Creek still was relevant I'd say it's closer to that. QUOTE is fiction losin' it's cool factor? This is a really weird and nonsensical sentence. Considering fiction is 'things that are imagined and not real' and people still love a lot of that. It also makes no sense even in context. Unless you mean Superman fiction, which is all that Superman is since he isn't real. -------------------- |

Ok, ok, ok, so after my initial negative reaction I have come around to a much more positive attitude:
If this turns out good(unlikely as that sounds), then YAY, new awesome Superman story! If it turns out as awful as it sounds, then we can look forward to seeing the comic ripped apart by a certain hat-wearing comic critic in hilarious detail. Either way, we win! YAY! -------------------- |

It also makes no sense even in context. Unless you mean Superman fiction, which is all that Superman is since he isn't real. the sentence looks weird but the meaning is that we, apparently are getting lower and lower quality entertainment these days, the arguments don't seem as inspiring as they used to be, not just in Superman fiction, but in all forms of fiction that we consume, be it books, movies, tv shows ,comics etc. low quality seems to be the norm these days, there's far more things to dislike in them these days than things people will like or praise about them. Sure, there are still masterpieces being produced, but looks like theres an overflow of mediocrity that fails to capture the essence of what people uesd to identify and relate to in fiction, (the cool factor that makes you appreciate it and makes it's memory last for the rest of your life) and people still consumes the product because there´s nothing else to watch or to read. I made the sentence into a question because I don't really know if it's really what's happening right now, and to see if what I'm saying is true, further studies would be required. I bought it today and really liked it. It put a very unexpected (but logical) twist on the origin story.

Here's a preview of Earth One Superman...he looks okay...nothing to drastic, Lois looks hot, Jimmy looks in awe. There is a brand new villain in this book as well, Lex is absent. If this one does well they'll do more. Batman Earth One should be coming out next year. http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=preview&id=6801 Dark Destroyer His torso looks too long. Not a big deal, but seems mildly distracting. |

so the 'makeover' is actually just Clark, in 'just graduated junior college' street garb. His Supes costume hasn't changed... and people got all emo about this because?

Well I'm against this on account of the assigned writer. Article, however, describes the "makeover": QUOTE he now has a decidedly more emo vibe -- pale, leaner, and brooding. It's definitely a Clark Kent that's aimed at the Linkin Park/Twilight/Simple Plan crowds... all whiny and angsty about his lot in life. Whatever. If I want to see a young Superman done right, I can just check out Loeb's For All Seasons or Cooke's Kryptonite. hug this emo bulljive. -------------------- QUOTE You're far too young to be this bitter and angry at the world.... ![]() |

Well, it can also be argued that Superman just doesn't appeal to today's teenagers. No one grows up in an environment like Clark did anymore, but you can't change that, so what's the next best thing to do? Make him struggle emotionally when moving to Metropolis.
I know I had a lot of emotional issues when I first moved away from my small town to the big city. For the first time I was alone. No friends or family. Big scary city. It all comes down to everyone's personal preference for the character obviously, but I know Superman has never had anything about him that I could really relate to. Now, that doesn't really mean I want him to be 'emo' or anything, but I wouldn't mind seeing his early development in life filled with problems. This is why I was drawn to Smallville initially. If anything, at least it's not canon. At least you have that. If anything, I honestly think this is testing the waters for something else. -------------------- |

i think it's the people who do like 'regular' superman that are getting concerned. you, on the other hand, are probably the actual target audience. Why should that matter? They're not changing "your" Superman. Just making another version that's more approachable. Doesn't DC have tons of Superman running around their Earth-#Whatever anyway? -------------------- Yep.
