QUOTE
People who purchase the Japanese Animated Encyclopedia (available next month) will be entitled to purchase an exclusive Animated Optimus Prime (Elite Guard Ver.) figure.

The 112 page encyclopedia will cost 1,680 yen and is available for order at Books Rakuten, Amazon JP and Red Mercury.

Each purchase of the book entitles the buyer to a maximum of 2 pieces of the exclusive figure.

Each figure will cost 4,900 yen. Orders of two figures will be sold at the slightly discounted price of 9,200 yen.

Based on the silhouette of the figure on the cover, it will be a repaint of the voyager class Prime figure with Wingblade parts.

This is much like Emergency Green G1 Ratchet, Skids & Screech, Gentei Ghost Starscream, and Gentei Electro Disruptor Ligier before him. They all had to have a book purchased in order to buy them.

Randy

Edit: EZ Collection Elite Guard Optimus (the maroon, dark gray, and gold one) to give us an impression of how he might look.

Wow, that's a surprisingly hefty figure compared to past precedent, if the silhouette is true.

I mean, I have no interest in that Elite Guard Prime deco or the Wingblade parts so I probably won't be getting this, but that is one impressive jump up from a Deluxe.

Yeah, I really like the scheme they used so it'll be nice to see it on a larger figure.

This makes me want to get the Prowl and Bumblebee now.

What will be the book like? Totally new, or a translation of the Almanac?

Hmmm. That's not an awful price. Anyone know a good way to order from Amazon.co.jp?

I think the problem is you'll need someone with a Japanese address.

Huh. I want to see actual pictures of that thing. I wasn't going to buy a Japanese Wingblade in hopes of the Hasbro one eventually coming out, but this one might get me depending on the color scheme.

I would hope for a Powered Convoy colored repaint at some point on any Prime, other than a movie one that is...

Probably would help if I could read Japanese too.

I wouldn't count on a Hasbro one at this point.

Plus the Hasbro one would use (in my opinion) the crappy Deluxe Earth mode figure while the Takara one uses the much better (in my opinion) Voyager mold.

I'm more interested in the book, personally.

Maybe it'll have some extra bits that'll be contrary to the Almanac or just "neat".

Or Hell, maybe TakaraTomy will use THIS as their means to connect Animated to the Movies since they don't appear to actually be doing it in the cartoon like that marketing manager said they would.

That seems like an odd place for the elite guard symbol.

Eh, I like the black and red, but the gold is placed a little oddly. And, I'm with Smitty that the Elite Guard symbol is in a funny spot. If it's going to be that small, putting it high between the windows seems like a no-brainer.

Otoboto family feature in the encyclopedia? Cooooooool! (Am I the only one hoping that their segments will be included on the Animated S3 DVDs when they finally come out?)
