Eh. The group shot with Optimus doesn't look quite mesh. Looks a lot like three cartoon characters and Movie Optimus. I'm not sure if it's the colors or if the Optimus design still looks a little too busy relative to the other characters, but it's not like there's much to see of it right now.
I'm not really excited by the character designs, but that's pretty much how I felt when they were showing off pics at Comic-Con. I didn't care for the Animated style, I don't care for the movie's style, and mashing them together makes for a style I'm lukewarm about, at best. So, I guess that's an improvement? OTOH, as several other people have noted, what will make or break the show will be the writing. In the short term, this is likely to be pretty moot for me, though. I don't think I get this channel right now, and I'm not really interested in increasing my cable bill for the privilege. Folks: See the Cadillac. See the big, black, Cadillac of Death. The big, black, Cadillac of Death is awesome. Needs solid gold hubcaps. And shag carpet. And purple underbody lighting. And a pimp hat. -------------------- Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over.

I'm also confused as to how we go from WFC Bumblebee to TFP Bee who is just movie Bee smoothed out. I suspect that if/when we see Cybertronian modes for the Autobots in TF:Prime, they'll look different to the WFC designs. Different design teams. It's like how the Transformers in IDW comics change in appearance sometimes between issues - they haven't changed appearance in-universe, they're just being rendered differently by the artist. -------------------- TFWiki.net - The Transformers Wiki: because where else are you going to learn about The Battle for Planet Earth?

Exactly the same analogy I was going to use. It's going to be new to us in its use in a video medium, but we've had the past year or so to get used to it in the comics. -------------------- |

Pretty sure the Death Caddy is meant to be the generic Decepticon drone model from the SDCC video.
Still, if/when a toy of it comes, oh the pimping here will be. -------------------- Clearing out some old TFs and Mugenbine in my BST Thread. You know you want some of these.

Honestly, you come off sound like your trying your very damnedest to not like these designs, becuase they stopped being Animated. Acree and Rathet's faces, which we can see head on, have all the design elements of a TFA head. Smooth metallic faces, big eyes, helmet crest noses. To not see that, is to be blind. I make one off-hand comment about faces and it gets stretched out for 2 pages: remind me to clarify the intention and level of emotional investment for all my comments from this point on. I'm sure Animated head designs would look pretty similar with liberal amounts of shiny too. It's not something I really minded, they just stood out at me, probably because they're Animated looking but with more shiny. I like Arcee, kinda. The animated style only shows on these by neither of them having noses, though. I wonder if they can pull off an Arcee that actually transforms and looks like this in toy form.
Megatron, on the other hand, has a shriveled face, no nose, and beady red eyes, wearing a big bucket for a helmet. He kinda reminds me of this: (IMG:http://www.blogcdn.com/blog.games.com/media/2009/10/buckethead.jpg) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-fire.gif) This post has been edited by BB Shockwave: Aug 13 2010, 08:43 AM -------------------- |

The problem with this show's style that I have is that it's so generic in a "maximum unoffensive" way. It's especially obvious with the human characters... I haven't gotten such a strong "Generic CGI" vibe since "Meet The Robinsons".

Every time I see more picture of these character they grow on me, before I totally hated Ratchet and Megatron's designs but after these I'm starting to like them. But overall I think the writings going to have to get me to keep watching. I'm not a big fan of CGI/animation mixed cartoons.

I haven't gotten such a strong "Generic CGI" vibe since "Meet The Robinsons". Or maybe "TMNT", the 2007 movie which he also did the character designs for? Jose certainly keeps up his tradition of drawing female characters in a rather stickly fashion. Not the hugest fan of that, but at least it's not being done to an existing character design like 2003's April O'Neil. I really hope the story is good, Beast Wars or Animated good. With Orci and Kurtzman in charge of things, I strongly doubt it. I'd say they'll do about as well here as they did with the movies they're so undeservedly proud of writing. I've already written this series off as one to avoid. |

Maybe they'll do better writing half hour episodes that they do writing movies. And maybe the sky will turn blood red tomorrow and stay that way until the end of time. I'm not holding my breath. I'll look at reviews after it premieres, though. I suppose there's always a chance, no matter how unlikely. |

They're the producers, not the story editors. There's plenty of people below them who will probably have a much, much stronger creative influence on the series than them.
That said, if you want a better idea of the creative talent working on this show, try watching 'The Batman' and every single boy's action cartoon Sony's produced for the last thirteen years (sans Spectacular Spider-Man). But avoid the Boondocks, as that sucked mightily. This post has been edited by Sprocket: Aug 14 2010, 05:12 PM -------------------- Being part of any fandom is fundamentally embarassing.

You know what Isenberg wrote before Animated? Ben 10.
A very by the numbers, but otherwise well produced and competent kid-fare style series that risked nothing and didn't really try for deep storylines. Given that, I think they deserve as much of a chance to prove themselves as anyone else. (And the Batman had "The Ultimate Criminal Mastermind", "The Rubberface of Comedy/The Clayface of Tragedy", "Strange New World," "A Matter of Family", "Artifacts", and "Riddler's Revenge," all of which are as good and some even better than the best episodes of Animated. The shared relationship isn't a point against Animated at all, in my book.) -------------------- ![]() |
