The attending packages went on sale last Tuesday....and correct me if i'm wrong, but I thought that the non-attending sets would be offered a week later? If that was the case, has there been some sort of delay?

I think they promised something closer to "maybe a week later."

From an e-mail dated May 6:

QUOTE
Here is how it is going to work. Because of the proximity of the registration timeline to the show, to ensure that everyone who has travel plans can get the package of their choice, we will only put up the attending packages (including classes and tours) when the system goes live. Approximately a week later, we will put up the non-attending package. The printed form will not go online until the non-attending package goes online.

As an update for those waiting for this, Pete posted on the fan club forums that it wouldn't be today, but they'd put out more info shortly.

Personally I think the non-attending/Iacon box set $305 +$20 in shipping fees price is a major high price to have to pay. at best $175 seems fair

why exactly should non-attending fan club members have to pay the same exact price as attending/Primus $305 fan club members?

that $305 attending/primus price for the boxset. also covers 3-4 days access in the convention. a freebie figure that is guaranteed to sell for $75+ on ebay the first day it's released. entrance into all the hasbro/idw/video game/actors panels. seeing free proto type toys. entrance into dealers room. entrance into awards dinner. freebies posters, pins, meeting the hasbro staff. getting autographs,etc...

Yeah, you're too clever to give FunPub the resources/a reason to make a convention-exclusive set of toys AT ALL.

That's the reward you get for actually attending the convention. Considering before FP there was no non-attendee option at all, and after-con prices will still be higher than $305 on eBay, it's not a bad deal.

Aside from which, if you could buy the toys for $175 without going, that'd kill the incentive to go at all for a lot of people.

lets do the math:

primus club members attending packages get the following:

(1) a boxset of toys without paying $20 shipping & handling fees. no waiting 3-4 weeks like iacon package holders have too. for the sake of arguments no money will get minused from the $300.
because it does cost fun pub some money to ship these toys via a mail service.
(2) freebie toy than can easily be sold on ebay for $75+ the first day it's released at the convention.
so $75 minus $300 is $225
(3) admittance for walk ins on saturday & sunday is $18 a day for adults. apparently if you want a $2 day pass it cost you $30. primus package holders get in on maybe thurday, definately friday, guaranteed saturday & sunday. for the sake of argument lets give the 4 day admittance a fair $40 value. so $40 minus $225 equals 185
(4) I'd safely put a price on all those official hasbro panels, idw, video games, voice actors panels at $18 for the all the panels. $18 minus $185 equals $167
(5) admittance to the awards dinner. haven't a clue if this is paid for in the $300 primus package or whether you pay for what you eat like a normal restaurant. or if there is even food at this wards diner. i wouldn't be surprissed if fans play with toys at the dinner table & don't eat, while awards are being handed out.

Iacon non-attending club members $300 package holders get the following incentives:
(1)pay $20 in shipping fees.
(2) having to wait 3-4 weeks for fun fub to ship out there boxset of toys.

While were on the box sets packages subject.

why exactly does it take fun pub 3-4 weeks after the botcon convention has ended to start shipping out the iacon non-attending packages.

these iacon box sets are obviously not at the convention. these box sets are most likely at the fun pub owners house or business.

with a company as big as fun pub. I find it hard to stomach/believe no fun pub employess are availble to ship out these iacon packages the monday after the convention has ended on sunday.
EVEN IN worse case scenarios hire or set aside a few people to take care of the shipping out of iacon packages on monday the day after the convention has ended.

it doesn't take a genious to figure out this is another outcentive for Iacon package holders.
THE MAIN REASON IT TAKES FUN PUB TO SHIP OUT YOUR IACON PACKAGE 3-4 WEEKS AFTER THE CONVENTION. THEN ANOTHER WEEK TO GET THE PACKAGE. IS SO THE PRIMUS PACKAGE HOLDERS COULD GET THE JUMP ON EBAY & SELL THERE BOTCON SETS FOR ONE WHOLE INTERRUPTED MONTH. THE TIME IACON PACKAGE HOLDERS TRY TO SELL THERE BOX SET ON EBAY. EBAY BUYERS WHO WANT THE BOX SETS HAVE COOLED OFF & ALREADY BOUGHT FROM THE PRIMUS PACKAGE HOLDERS.

Look at it as an extra fee for not having to go to the convention - you don't have to pay for travel, accommodation, and so on. They wouldn't really be convention exclusives if they were that much cheaper to buy by not going to the convention.

As shocking as it may seem some people (I'd wager a fair number of them) actually *keep* the Convention toys they buy.

This may be hard to believe, but...

Scifi fans go to conventions all the time that, get this, don't have exclusive toys there! Instead they actually consider the guests and the fan and official panels and dealer rooms and scifi-related film showings and presentations and costume contests and dances and stuff their primary reason for going. And things like guests and panel schedules are actually advertised sooner than a week before the convention.

I mean, wow. Fans going to a convention because they actually want to go to the convention. What a mind-blowing concept.

If TF fans actually don't consider BotCon worth going to for reasons other than the toys, that would say kind of really sad things about the convention itself.

Man, if they wanted me to go to the convention they wouldn't have held it at the worst possible time imaginable

Seriously. One week either way, and I would have been able to attend. But graaaah right at the end of financial year (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-megs.gif) . I had plans that were completely crushed and dismantled the second they revealed the date

I would think it said good things about the fans going to the convention, namely that they have no illusions about what their beloved franchise is really all about.
